I can't believed this hasn't been mentioned already (i.e. I'm sure it has, but what the heck), but bloody hell, Chris T-T album of the week (with big attached write-up) in the Sunday Times! Not bad going there...

Mark C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

he also had a WHOLE PAGE in yesterday's Metro! Good going Chris! media saturation or what?

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Like the guy in the Nivea for Men advert, Hmm, I might buy some.

Mark C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Does that mean I have to buy the Tompaulin album as well? I suppose I shoul if I still want that dinner invitation, Katie...

Mark C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Sunday Times' record reviews are so much more adventurous than the other newspapers'. (Unfortunately to see them you have to look at the Sunday Times.) Nice one Chris!

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bought it last week, do I get a dinner invite too. I was going to post about Chris in the Metro yesterday but events kind of took over.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

when we hit #1 in the charts, you'll know why - cos i bribed people with dinner invites!

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Right, I've now added both Chris's and Katie's albums to my shopping basket. Chris's came in cheaper at £9.99, compared to the Tompaulin £11.99 rip-off - and it's reflected in sales: while TP are languishing around the 2,400 mark, Chris has broken into the urgent + key Amazon top 550!

Mark C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would buy it if I could find it! Admittedly I've only tried hmv and the Rough Trade website so far...RT have all the eps but not the album.

MarkH, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Only £9.99 in Selctadisc, and on vinyl too, nice.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey. we were at about #700 last week! have Selectadisc still got vinyl of the tp album then, as i need a vinyl copy! must also buy Chris's album and Vinny Peculiar's if it's out. mmm, record shopping...

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Sunday Times' record reviews are so much more adventurous than the other newspapers'

The Independent gave Ireland's delightful Joan of Arse record of the week a couple of weeks ago.

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that's nice.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Didn't Stewart Lee give JofA a four-star review in the S.Times, as well?
Oh, and Katie, I'm buying the TP album today!

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I keep thinking you mean TOILET PAPER! This is a good thing as we do need some, must just remember not to get records and bog roll mixed up as that would lead to pain agony and the DARKSIDE ect ect.

You know I have never heard the beat combos of Tompaulin OR (nor?) Chris T-T! However I haf heard that tp (lower case = less bog roll reminders) cover Strawberry Switchblade so they are now my favourite things since BURNT BREAD cheers all round for tp!

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

said cover is not on album though Sarah. Katie, selectadisc had the vinyl last Tuesday, dunno about now. It's nice heavy vinyl though, not that nasty flexy stuff. Have I missed the peel session?

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nope, but the factXoR that it exists gif me the glee more than enough!

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Peel Session which includes Strawberry Switchbalde cover goin' out on your airwaves 20th November hurrah!!!! i feel bad though, cos i'm plugging my band on Chris T-T's thread. i'll stop now - except to say that the cover version ROCKS!! oh yes.

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tompaulins rule IMO.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I promise I didn't pay Mark C to start this thread, honest. The vinyl is a limited edition of (yes) 253.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

was the number 253 proved by science as the right number. any significance?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

253 = name of record

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

253 = London's top bus

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

http://www.norfolkwindmills.com/images/clapton.jpg

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

253 = London's top murder bus too. I wuv it (and often get it from Camden to Holloway Road).

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I used to get that one loads when I was going out with a girl who was living in Stamford hill, ahh 1993, drinking in Camden til all hours then getting the n253 back to Stamford hill, right outside her house, lovely.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

or was it? mm, have I got mixed up here, it was 8 years ago after all.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Might have been the 243.

Nick, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bloody north Londoners.

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Essex boy!

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

236, 106 and (londons best bus) the 19 are better anyway

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey the 106 just grew up: now they R a doubledecker!!

where is that 253 gareth? my guess = finsbury park is three or four stops behind it

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no can't be or it wd be one-way

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Clapton.

Nick, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick is correct. its passing the pond

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

proof!

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do I spy a comedy inside-out umbrella?

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

aha: pic taken from outside the legendary murder-club CHIMES bar (named for legendary DG chiropractor), and only abt 750 yards from my own house!!

what is the story with the pedestrian: has s/he just lost use of his/er umbrella?

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that small boy was smashing that umbrella onto the ground with great venom, he was really wacking it

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I AM NOT AN ESSEX BOY! You people...

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Best bus = 159, you North Londonders. Or the 35 due to getting me home from Ver Spitz goodness. But 159 is the HOORAY! old Routemaster hop-on-back route and also goes the quick way across Westminister bridge instead of Lambeth Bridge/Millbank route so YEAH for 159!

I hate me.

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aaah, the days of getting competely squashed with big bags on the 106 and hit by the doors are.....less frequent.

Ally C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, the best bus is either the 86 or the N25, the 86 delivers me from Romford and the N25 takes me home after happy nights out in London.

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what the hell are some of these buses? do they go, like, south of the river or something? whats that about?

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's OK Sarah, we all hate you too.

Ally C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is the N25 not full of scary wierdoes? And Gareth, where do you get those photos from? You seem to be able to produce them at will! Best bus: 55, surely, from Old Street down the Clerkenwell Road...

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the 98 used to be fantastic when I lived in Willesden, so easy to get into town and back, especially on the night bus. The 52 was similarly great.

Walthamstow buses = less so although the 48 is rather a pleasant route to London Bridge, and the night bus that goes from the spitz to the stow.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bloody 55 is useless. I always have to wait at least twice the interval marked on the timetable for it turn up at Centrepoint. I'd have given up getting it only it's still normally easier than getting the Central Line to Chancery Lane and walking to Clerkenwell Green.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have to concur. The 55 is no way to travel. It never turns up or anything.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes Will, the N25 is frequently full of weirdos, but you get used to it.

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thanks Ally.

(*thinks* I am not happy now).

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"It never turns up or anything": what would you have settled for, if turning up was ruled out?

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How strange. I've never had a problem with the old 55 and its a good way to get to the Betsey. Mmm, Twilight Zone.
Don't worry Sarah, I don't hate you. Completely unrelated, but are you the same Sarah from London Indie USA, btw?

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't hate you.

N43 anyone?

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will, the reason those i am able to summon up those photos so quick is because i took them!

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, OK. Nice one Gareth. DG - I liked what you said about being 'delivered from Romford' - its oddly appropriate if you consider its Biblical ring...

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aha! Gareth, are you going to that American Analogue thing tonight?

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn right Will, we all need deliverance form Romford.

DG, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no DG, i'm coming down with disease (dont feel too good)

gareth, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chris T-T is better than Jay-Z! I see he has a gig up Islington way next Sunday - might pop by and say hello.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will, oh yass that's me! Thanks for all the fliers help, btw, I don't think I expressed enough gratitude before but it was an enormous help. LIUSA = top jums.

Mark, fo schnizzle my dizzle and THEN we'll talk about Chris T-T.

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Great. If you're there please come say hello (this applies to any IL*r at any gig, I still haven't met hardly anyone).

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I'd like it more if Chris started to fo schnizzle his dizzle too. Heh. Oh Jay-Z what a champ. Chris, wouldja?

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah you need to go home! :)

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This thread makes me unutterably happy for some reason. But is Gareth posting from a laptop on the sidewalk and just snapping pictures as need be to bolster his point?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sadly not, he is just zooming in on the previous photo with some fiendish piece of techno-wizardry. And by the way - I cheated. Although I can see it is Clapton now, I got a massive hint by viewing the url of the picture (http://www.norfolkwindmills.com/images/clapton.jpg)

Nick, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a bit late but, 207 = London's top bus!

james, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah, what's this fo schnizzling dizzling? Will you, like, be there?

(*thinks* I am happy now)

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alas Chris.

Graham, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*thinks* !
