The past year or so saw two of my long-awaited faves, Blow-Up and After Hours finally get the DVD treatment.

I'm still waiting for the stylish Bowie/Deneuve Vampire vehicle, The Hunger and Penelope Spheeris' Decline of Wester Civilization trilogy.

What are you waiting for?

- a complete collection of New Order videos (this is so U&K it's not even F)
- the MC5 documentary (apparently held up by injunction)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a region 0 2 disc DUNE, here.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I saw that for sale at Amoeba in Hollywood. I might pick it up. But I also want a release of the "TV" version, or some kind of new director's cut. This film needs a serious rehabilitation in the USA.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

someone at ILF pointed me toward a Cocksucker Blues bootleg, but I didn't buy it.

Un Chien Andalou needs to come out on DVD, somehow

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a C*cksucker Blues DVD boot for rent at Cinef*le in L.A.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

according to this there is a rumored "special edition" of dune in the works from Universal but I wouldn't hold my breath.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Interesting tidbit. I wonder what Lynch's feelings are towards it at this point...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

there are so many fucking DVD versions of Dune I can't even wrap my head around them or get the time to figure out which might be the best one. The 3 disc "perfect collection" sounds good but who knows what the transfer is like?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My Own Private Idaho

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: Yeah, that's why I want an official one. Apparently, there's no way the TV version could be coming from a really good source.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the 180 minute UK TV one. it isn't great looking but it was worth £5.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Dune is silly.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, i just spent 30 minutes trying to figure this out and I guess that German "perfect collection" is indeed about as good as this film gets on DVD, with both the TV and cinema versions and a big fancy box. but the menus are in german. I'm still tempted to drop $75 on it. Even though I don't like the film at all! Help me I am mental.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought C BLUES at Rh!no in w3stwood.

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Homosexual - MGM issued "Last American Virgin" earlier this year; you can find it most places for $9.99. What an amazing movie, that one. Totally psychotic.

My list:

- Lukas Moodyson's "Together" (which was never even issued on VHS and was my favorite movie from that year)
- Tony Curtis in "The Manitou"
- "Massacre at Central High"

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

all the Cremaster films (I know the Order is available but it's useless w/out the others)!

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't they available, only for like $100,000?

morris pavilion (samjeff), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they were on laserdisc. I have 4 & 5 as bootlegs, they aren't terrible, but they aren't great either.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a C*cksucker Blues DVD boot for rent at Cinef*le in L.A.

Hey, I rented this (or maybe it was the VHS copy there). It's so absoid!

Everything Bunuel ever made.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I Walked With A Zombie
A Fistful of Dynamite aka Duck You Sucker
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid
The Wild Bunch (a non-flipper, thx)

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 20 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything Bunuel ever made.
Hmmm? I have Belle de Jour and I know That Obscure Object of Desire and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie are readily available, but yes, there is a lot more where that came from as yet unreleased on DVD.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 21 August 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

There are plenty of Bunuel DVD's, some more legit than others, floating around on Ebay. The ones I've bought (Phantom Of Liberty/Olvidados+Las Hurdes/Viridiana/El+Archibaldo de La Cruz) have not disappointed. "Robinson Crusoe"'s out soon in R1 and then there's esto.

Milo - if you wouldn't mind a copy of my own x-fer of "Un Chien..." plus most of a great Bunuel bio on a DVD-R, email me.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 21 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Out on October 5!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 August 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Right on, Gear. I back up the call for I Walk with a Zombie (and a bunch of Val Lewson/Tourneur stuff), Fistful of Dynamite, and a non-flipper Wild Bunch. Also, per the above somewhere, The Double Life of Veronique and The Conformist, plus a ton of other non English language films.

But given the wealth of Altman out, where's Short Cuts?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Saturday, 21 August 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently 2005 will bring a massive (I think I heard 9-disc) Lewton box from WB (who have really got their act together lately with their back catalog).

Also, rumor has it that Criterion are working on Short Cuts.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 21 August 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I should have specified Region 2 for the Bunuel. But Warner Bros are bringing out a triple boxed set this autumn: Belle de Jour, Diary of a Chambermaid and The Milky Way. Not perfect (BDJ is good, but nowhere near a favourite) but I'm excited.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Saturday, 21 August 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Complete Lance Link, Secret Chimp"
"All In The Family, Series One"

"Super Friends", second season
"Teeange Mutant Ninja Turtles", second and ESPECIALLY third season box sets, w/ audio commentary by the guys who voiced Bebop and Rocksteady
Some sort of comprehensive "Muppet Show" box
More Space Ghost!

I have been waiting for YEARS and YEARS for SOME sort of Japan video compilation to surface. I've never been particularly choosy -- just SOMETHING, even if it's just a decent quality VHS thing. But now I'm kinda getting to the point where I've been waiting for so long (geez, a good twelve years or so) that I'd be more than disappointed if whatever comes out ISN'T some high-quality DVD thing WITH little bonus extra goodies, INCLUDING footage of that thing Mick Karn did for the British children's program where he got hit in the face with that custard thingy.

yes, if you could make a copy (is it two or three videos? the long was very long if i recall) please let me know. i'd like to see this again.

i believe the film was cofinanced by a french (or was it german?) production company, so unfortunately i don't expect it to be released on dvd by ruscico like other mosfilm productions.
