ILE Christmas Party (UK Region)

I think it would be a good idea if we went out for an ILE Christmas bash sometime next month. When, where, what do we do?

Other regions are encouraged to sort one out of course.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Of course there must be fighting, smut and scandal.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what a very palatable idea

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can we have it in that very dull week betwixt Christmas and New Year?

Graham, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would love that - and for a special treat for Tom and Nick I'd bring a book of my favourite poems to read aloud! ;-)

Er... I won't be invited now, will I?

Will, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will bring the fighting. Please may it not be in the Hippodrome which was amply demonstrated to be a shite venue for an Xmas do after last year's office Xmas party.

Emma, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hang on, Ewing in VULGAR new answers new answers new answers SHOCK. I'm most diasappointed.

Graham, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Preferably week before Christmas, as I will be spending the season with my dear old mum back home in Glasgow.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No Graham because I did not go "new answers", I went the GENTEEL route of making an additional point.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

genteel yet bogus yay!!

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It is times like these that living in the middle of nowhere suX0r.

Nicole, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Week before Xmas, think most of us will be busy that w/e in the middle of xmas/NYE. I know at least I will. How's about Sat 15th?

This gif me ample time for PURCHAISE of new FroXoR wizz. Who will buy the mistletoe? Will there be mince pies?

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can we drink sherry?

Madchen, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not sherry, please.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do we want a Saturday or a weeknight?

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Saturday, and jonnie should be forced to drink Sherry.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Friday's are best methinks. Will there be cake? I love cake.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Where the fuck did that apostrophe come from?

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

15th should be OK. Will there be any absinthe? Or at least some meths (is there a difference)?

Howzabout some avant-garde karaoke, e.g. Stimmung? Or at least a five-bob postal order to the first person who can recite the lyrics of the So Solid Crew album from beginning to end, in full, including the unsavoury bits (i.e. most of it).

Or - seeing as it's Xmas and we are not above lowering ourselves to base level - an impromptu IL* Full Monty troupe? Now isn't THIS an idea I'm going to regret having?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

RickyT- from a subconscious wish to have the ILE Christmas Party in TFI Fridays of course.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmmm, scrub that, I suppose Saturdays are better if folks are travelling from afar.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am wounded by that allegation, Tom, wounded to my heart.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

15th might not be good for me.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've scared Tom off with my IL* Full Monty suggestion.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1st is completely out for me.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

15th might not be good for me either - he said equally enigmatically. I vote for a Sunday (wot!) yes Sunday 23rd, we could have the upstairs of the Betsy, play some tunes, crisp tasting and be rampant. Useful excuse for parents who want their kiddies to do long boring weekend before Christmas at home.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tunes boring! Crisp tasting boring! Can't we just be rampant?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Stimmung was what scared me Marcello. 1st no good for me (1st of what?)

mark s, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Possibly, but for those of us who have to travel any significant distance out of London before the 25th this means Christmas Eve train/car travel. Which can be a bit tense. Why not the 21st or 22nd?

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i like pete's idea the best by FAR!

katie, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd better get my seat booked then.

RickyT, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As long as there's some boogie woogie euphonium magic.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I suppose the weekend of the 28th-30th is out, since that's when I'll be in London and we all know that 'UK Region' means 'London Region'.

Pweese?

Ally C, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

New YEars Eve Eve is traditionally the time when I organise a themed pub crawl, so all may not be lost Ally. I was toying with doing a zig zag crawl over central London bridges (one north pub, one south etc...) but more on that later.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Possibly, but for those of us who have to travel any significant distance out of London before the 25th this means Christmas Eve train/car travel. Which can be a bit tense. Why not the 21st or 22nd?

Um, yes, I absolutely agree. I don't want to travel whilst extremely hungover on Christmas Eve at all, to be honest. I'm going to be in Preston over the XmasXor period. I could however feasibly do 21st or 22nd... what about the 8th?

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I worked at St Mary Abbots Hospital (RIP) the staff Xmas do routinely got put back to about mid-February. This appealed to me in a spectacularly meaningless way.

Anyway, can't do the Friday afore Xmas as I will be DJing at Dulwich Sports Ground (the King's College Hospital do). Provisional playlist thus far: Sing/Last Nite/Party Hard/Alcoholic/Babylon (only kidding).

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Also, ABSINTHE YES ABSINTHE YES ABSINTHE YES.

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

will there be a sussed in Dec?

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and as many other quick-acting poisons. belladonna and absinthe sandwiches all round.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There is a Sussed on December 5th.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My preferences - 8th, 22nd. Maybe 15th, who knows.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can only come if I'm at home, or on my way there, so 15th or after pweaze?

Graham, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, that's the single best pub crawl idea I've EVER heard. Organise now man.

chris, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Can't do 15th it seems. However I'm very flexible apart from that.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

8th or perhaps... 16th for Petes Sunday suggestion? I totally can't do 23rd, but 21st 22nd could quite possibly be done. But seeing as I'd best book tickets up home soon I'd like to get this sorted asap and so will probably most of us SUPER TRAVELLXORS!

Although, 8th would be a LOT easier. How are people for that date?

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

8th is free. Not bad.

Watch this space for pub crawl details, though I may leave it a bit til Decembeertainly for the return of Hopkins - pub sage.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like the idea of Petes pub crawl too. There's the Red Lion on the North side of Westminister bridge for a start. Aaaah. Tiny but wuvvly also has BOLTHOLES to flee to if you espy yr bosses entering when yr suposed to be at work ho ho.

Sarah, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This sounds cool. I might turn up.

james, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would like to take this time to tell you to have a great& safe party! I want to see you all after the holidays! Hugs Gale.

Gale Deslongchamps, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah, you are absolutely adorable.

Maria, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah *is* absolutely adorable. She deserves Much Goodness. :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i like the idea of betwixt xmas and new year better. mainly because weekend of the 15th is the weekend scheduled for the super secret special event I'm supposed to be involved in organising up here in sheffield, however as yet we have no venue. 21-23 I will more than likely be ont he isle of man

Ed, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I of course am always up for an ILM North Party if anyone is interested in doing something in Montreal or Ottawa (depending on the specific time in the holiday season)?

sundar subramanian, Tuesday, 13 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 14 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My young friends I will be glad to attend this doubtless vintage do with my choice collection of 78s. That should get some gay jigging going and no mistake! Get your safety pins out - here's one for all you punk shockers!!

Let's all aboard the "Boogie Boat"!

Coxswain at the wheel! Helm hard a-port! Midships! Steer due South!

as am former Navy man

Wally Klemmer, Wednesday, 14 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Erm... most weekends in December are bad, bad, bad. 8th and 15th both out due to gigs. By the time that's over, it's too close to Xmas to be any use. But I can't imagine my presence would be appreciated anyway, so I don't suppose it matters anyway.
