I have just bought this book. It is written by Anne Barr and Peter York.

Has anyone else read it?

What do you think?

it sounds like quite an old book. I mean, nobody uses the term Sloane ranger any more. Do they???

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think it is old?

I had better check.

the bellefox, Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I am confused as to why the pinefox would wish a guide to being a Sloane Ranger. Please explain yourself, young man.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

published 1984, apparently.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha. I believe this is one of the books most often brought into the book shop where Tom used to work. Impossible to sell now, except to the Pinefox.

It makes me think of early 90s car boot sales.

The image of pinefox reading this book now is one of the greatest things ILE has ever given me. Please take it on the tube.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

have you ever taken it on the tube?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Who, me? No. I've never read it.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

that's not what I meant.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

were you being rude, MarkH?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I notice the pinefox hasn't answered my plea for an explanation.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, yah. Mummy bought me an Alice band and later we got ever so squiffy.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps the pinefox is drinking Pimms and chatting excitedly about the gymkhana/regatta tomorrow at mummy's little place in the countryside.

English Girls
-Peter Sarstedt

They stand in Georgian hallways
And wave in photographs.
They're found in social columns
In search of better halves.
They're sometimes called Sloane Rangers.
They share small flats in town.
They work in fashion houses
Who dress them up as clowns.
