why do they do this? when i buy wine gums i dont want to have to unwrap the whole roll just to mix and match my reds with my oranges. but this is what theyre making me do. i think im going to have to carry a surplus bag to empty all my sweets into so i can stop having to eat orange-orange-orange-blackcurrant-blackcurrant-blackcurrant. (or i could just go to the market and buy a load in a ready mixed bag, if there was a market near me that is)

In the case of fruit pastilles and wine gums, black-black-black-black etc is the greatest combination. They should just make all black tubes. And get sponsored by the All Blacks. Or something

Even worse, I can't understand why they have the PLAIN CHOCOLATE ones in the Revels bag. Look, if I wanted plain chocolate, I'd have bought plain chocolate. I want kerrrrr-azy chocolate fillings!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:13 (twenty years ago) link

I like those actually. My personal Revel hell is the ones with orange in the middle.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:14 (twenty years ago) link

It's a sanity thing. You can't have too much of a good thing--putting the plain ones in makes you want the krazy ones more.

BUT THE ORANGE ONES ARE THE LIKE THE MINEFIELD THAT MAKES THE CARAMEL ONES ALL THE BETTER WHEN YOU FIND THEM!!!

Though I'm upset about the peanuts being switched for raisins thing. That truly upsets me. Blech! I don't think I shall eat them any more.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:17 (twenty years ago) link

is this coz Revels were like Russian roulette for nut allergy sufferers?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:18 (twenty years ago) link

that's one raisin I can think of.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:18 (twenty years ago) link

Well, nut allergy sufferers shouldn't be eating them, should they?

I think that the "eewww, raisins are like squashed flies!" contingent outweighs the nut allergy sufferers. (Though maybe we can ask Salmon's housemate.)

"Product May Contain Nuts" - On packets of nuts, C/D?

i have that sentence printed on all my underwear.

thank you and goodnight!

I'm sorry that I have derailed this thread to be about chocolates and nuts when it was clearly about coloured fruity sorts of sweets.

Except I really don't see the point of coloured fruity sweets. In fact, I don't really see the point of any sweets that aren't chocolate.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:25 (twenty years ago) link

dairy milk with biscuit vs. whole nut? its a hard choice.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:26 (twenty years ago) link

I've become very partial to Dairy Milk with minty bits!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

Dairy Milk has minty bits now???

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:29 (twenty years ago) link

there are so many different dairy milks now, its amazing.

my new sweet find though, is fruity smarties. theyre just like skittles though but not as hard. and they have some nice flavours not in skittles.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:31 (twenty years ago) link

Lo and behold the minty bits!!!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:32 (twenty years ago) link

x-post, oh yes! Smarties! Chocolate and varicoloured! Better varicolours than M&Ms, fer shure...

Oh yes, all praise the minty bits:

the new smarties chocolate bar is quite good actually. i like it more than smarties.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:34 (twenty years ago) link

I like the mint Dairy Milk too mmm.

Wasn't there some brand of sweets which changed from multiple colours in each pack to one colour/flavour per pack? Or am I thinking of Chewits which were always one flavour I think? Removing the annoyance of ones you don't like but also the pleasure of variety...

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:37 (twenty years ago) link

Curse this thread. Now I have to go across the street and get chocolate.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:37 (twenty years ago) link

I can't believe all the various types of chocolate! It's like being a kid again! Oh where oh where did my childhood go...

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:38 (twenty years ago) link

Chewits were always one colour and had wrappers which had alternate swilrly lines of white and whatever colour the flavour was. The phrase "scramble a Chewit!" always comes to mind whenever this type of sweet is mentioned - the cry that would go out in the playground before a Chewit was thrown high in the air and there was a big bundle to see who could catch it.

My old music teacher was called Mr. Hewitt. Imagine the laughs. Go on, just imagine them.

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:42 (twenty years ago) link

Carsmile to thread, obv.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:44 (twenty years ago) link

Heh. Chewits were incredibly prevalent at my school too. I wonder why. They were/are quite cheap I guess.

Of course Quality Street did that thing where they brought out big individual versions of the chocolates so you could just have a massive amount of your favourite. And didn't Smarties or M&Ms have a single-colour tube/bag promotion once?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:44 (twenty years ago) link

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmminty bits. Yumm for this thread for inspiring me to get some!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:45 (twenty years ago) link

They used to do all-blackcurrant packs of Fruit Pastilles - one of the few sweets that my mum likes. Now I don't think they do :(

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 09:57 (twenty years ago) link

i used to and still do sometimes buy all the chewit flavours together so i can mix and match them. much nicer, having fruit salad with strawberry and so on.....

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 10:17 (twenty years ago) link

what about when fruit gums all get stuck together? If sweets are being passed round and you pull out several fruit gums stuck together should you:

separate them out and put the others back

or say (to the next person, who deosn't get a sweet coz of the agglutination "problem")

none for you now, tough!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 10:18 (twenty years ago) link

no, if you separate them, you are imposing your finger germs all over them. best to be greedy in the same of hygeine.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 10:23 (twenty years ago) link

However, if the person next to you it HOTT, you can offer to let them try to pull apart their own particular sweet... or better yet, start chewing and end up KISSING like those dogs with the spaghetti in Lady And The Tramp...

what good advice, masonic boom. hopefully the fruit gums wont get all stuck to each others teeth or it could be a bit irritating.

Intentionally, or was it like completely innocent and accident (which then blossomed into love, ahhh)?

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 10:56 (twenty years ago) link

well, intentionally, I guess, it was a very long time ago.
