40-year-old dads gotta wear something.

Hahaaaaa WOLFSHIRTS! Mandee to thread.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago) link

I largely associate wildlife T-shirts with my university's Expeditions Society. Ppl going on expeditions to remote places would sell T-shirts with various animals on them to finance their trips to remote places. I still have a few of these tho I don't wear them as they're so old. I remember one had lots of ducks and bore the legend SPIRIT OF SUMATRA '92.

You won't get into Trash wearing a wildlife T-shirt, I'm sure.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:14 (twenty years ago) link

T-shirts depicting wildlife vs. wildlife wearing t-shirts?

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:14 (twenty years ago) link

....but of course you have a T-shirt that makes it look like you've been attacked by some wildlife, Liz ;)

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:15 (twenty years ago) link

Arf. There are only the usual holes in it innit, I'm not your average slag.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:16 (twenty years ago) link

OMG, I remember in like Gr. 3 a guy in my class went to Florida or something over Christmas and came back with one of those blood-splatter, bite-marked "I Survived A Shark Attack at Denny's" or whatever shirts. He was our God for the rest of the winter.

Huck, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:18 (twenty years ago) link

I...can't.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

Hey, it's the perfect shirt for when you don't have your airbrushed seventies van with you.

I've got an even better t shirt than that, the whole thing is covered in hundreds of yellow penguin pictures in the all over rookery print

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:29 (twenty years ago) link

You'd be well camoflauged after a schoolbus accident.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:36 (twenty years ago) link

i like that one! where is it from?

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:39 (twenty years ago) link

It's $40, I checked.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago) link

My condo mangers entire wardrobe consists of these things and guess who hats. He also has one leg and a giant stomach.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:47 (twenty years ago) link

Well, there's a New Mother Nature takin' over... and he's gonna find her.

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 16:48 (twenty years ago) link

some lucky person could steal a t shirt just like that from my washing line hahahaha. I never actually made the mental image of myself wearing that. I must be truely dazzling when I do...

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:10 (twenty years ago) link

i have an HUGE soft spot for these shirts; i mean the kids who wear them (not actually wearing them myself, christ no). they're the uniform of the rural nerd, kids totally unexamined by anyone for any reason until napoleon dynamite (sadly)

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:24 (twenty years ago) link

Not normally kids here, rather icky middle-aged women with grown-out perms and ill-fitting tie-dye skirts. Even worse if they're matured chavs who have crystal dolphin ornaments.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago) link

the one at the top of the thread is a bit too family (baby ducks??), usually you see only the very coolest animals: wolves, eagles, sharks, etc.

xpost the midwest doesn't have chavs.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:27 (twenty years ago) link

I have a nice hawaian (sp) type shirt which is actually a print of lions. Hell, if it has a heavy pattern I immediately want to wear it. The Wallace Simpson approach to beauty y'know.

Anyway, everything you wear is going to be dated sooner or later so you may as well be self consciously naff and laugh about it.

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:30 (twenty years ago) link

The vast majority of the crowd Onimo and I talked about in the "who watches these sci-fi shows?" thread are keen fans of the wildlife t-shirt. The more wolves, the better.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:31 (twenty years ago) link

but the wildlife t's are beyond time! they'll never be dated, ever. even shit like sprint car tshirts may eventually feel the dread hand of williamsburg upon them, but this stuff? no way.

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:33 (twenty years ago) link

ever been to the wild life section of cards at bluemountain.com? its hilarious, the wolves are running etc etc to music. yum

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago) link

...plus they're usually on thicker cotton t's and are well printed, so they retain this kitch-preventing crispness

g--ff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago) link

I could have sworn this thread said "Defend the Indefensible: Wet T-Shirts"

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago) link

hmm, googling williamsburg to figure out the reference has opened a whole new world of tackiness to me. Thank you, thank you for ever and ever and ever.
Speaking of tacky things, I had an idea about dream catchers. I think there should be industrial sized ones for back packing hostels and other communal hippy establishments. Do you all agree? has this been done? who wants to go into business?

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago) link

For serious, Mandee here with a bullet already!

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago) link

I was going to say, this thread was started *yesterday*. Surely she should have sniffed it out by now (with wolfsense).

I SEE IT NOW!!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:14 (twenty years ago) link

I love wildlife tshirts (especially wolfshirts, as most of you know). They need no defense. I think their beauty speaks out loud and clear.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago) link

I saw a kid with a shirt today: "GIVE ME SOME OF THAT OLD TIME RELIGION"

with a picture of STONEHENGE ON IT

gainfully employed (ex machina), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago) link

but yes, nothing beats a shirt featuring a wolf howling with maybe another section with a dreamcatcher and a crying indian woman.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:16 (twenty years ago) link

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:17 (twenty years ago) link

the crying indian woman is a nice touch

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:17 (twenty years ago) link

hubba, a little more soft focus and i'd be crying at the beauty of it all

Menelaus Darcy (Menelaus Darcy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:22 (twenty years ago) link

The last one is my favorite.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:22 (twenty years ago) link
