OMG a friend of mine is going to be on the Richard & Judy show - to talk about The Simpsons!

Wow. This is what happens when I leave Canada and lose touch with people. He's got a book out, and is doing the press junket thing. I'm in shock and awe.

So what can he expect from R&J? Are they kind to guests?

Oh yes, Judy usually shows them her boobs & Richard flirts with them!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't suppose he spends the second half talking about how much it sucks now ;)

R&J will be very nice - Richard mentions how much he likes The Simpsons on a regular basis on TV so your friend can probably expect an annoying game of one up man-ship regarding quotes...i hate people who do that (cough)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, he's less into the quoting-war and more into pithy insight and social commentary, but I suppose that won't play well on the show...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

oh it probably will - i just wonder what can be said about it now that isn't already completely obvious. i'd be interested in reading the book tho.

carcass

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the article that kick-started the book was great (i was working at the mag with him at the time). i'm keen to read the book as well to see where he takes it.

he's on monday's show - maybe i can get in the audience? i wonder if it's filmed at the london studios in south bank (i work across the street)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ummm.. adam?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

On the south bank, Rob, on.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes, of course. i geddit. i should know these things.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Obviously this will be played a certain way because C4 have bought the rights to show The Simpsons (a personal ambition of 4ndr3w N3wm4n, the head of Entertainment who used to work with me at ESM) and there is also a first British issue of the Life in Hell compilation coming out at the same time.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

that was so long ago (C4 buying the SImpsons) i'd forgotten all about it. i bought Season 4 on DVD a few weeks back...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

so why do i only ever see it on sky?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Because you don't get back from work in time?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It hasn't started showing on C4 yet, has it?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't that long ago as 4ndr3w and k3v1n l¥g0 boomeranged back from C5 more than a year ago and before that basically cooked up E4. Also, it's happening now because the syndication agreement had to lapse from BBC2 and will begin on C4 I think Oct/Nov.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Rob, we need reporting back. U&K = how thick is Judy's make-up, what does Richard smell like and how much booze do they consume before the broadcast?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It was spring 2002 that C4 won the rights to the Simpsons.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I will report what I can. I just found out they don't actually have an audience (my co-worker's boyfriend works there). I clearly don't know much about the show.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

holy crap - i just noticed his book is forewarded by dougl4s c0upl4nd. i know this is all silly of me but i'm very excited for him.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm still confused by adam's post

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

cadaver.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

look, i'm aware of terms for the recently-deceased, but what does it mean? are you saying he'll be slaughtered by r&j? help me out here, people.

i moved here from canada and they think i'm slow... eh?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the only thing slaughtered on that show will be Judy, probably

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

haha!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

he's on today's show apparently. i heard his book had a couple of not-so-good reviews on the weekend :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 6 September 2004 11:23 (twenty years ago)

well, they just called him 'an american author' in the intro. and now they are discussing the russian school siege and the rationale of murdering children. what a great segue into some witty banter about the simpsons!
