mine is fine and easy going when theres other people in the office. when its just me and him, we hardly say anything to each other. it seems a bit tenser, or quieter at least, when its just the two of us. cant see us ever really swigging pints down together.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Thursday, 2 September 2004 10:19 (twenty years ago)

He's ed and I'm a sub-ed and we bought the same powerbooks and we trade CDs and DVDs and we often drink together in the office and on special occasions we go pretty hard on everything while on the town. It's pretty ridiculous.

LC, Thursday, 2 September 2004 10:23 (twenty years ago)

Hm, it's funny that this thread should be here today. I would have said a similar thing to you. When there was 3 of us, we had a blast, went out drinking quite alot & stuff. Then the lady i worked directly with went on maternity leave. This means that my boss is now sitting in with me. It also meant that I would have the opportunity to cover this woman's job & further myself as I had been promised since I started 6 years ago. (OMG i cant believe it's that long!) Needless to say he has just taken over most of her role & not really given it to me as he said he would. Also he is so arsey at times. We used to have a great relationship, but not now. There is a possiblity that my colleague wont come back after her leave, I really will have to reconsider my options if this is the case.

I have two bosses. Fortunately I like them both. I think they like me.

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 2 September 2004 10:30 (twenty years ago)

Mine flicked V's at me as he drove past me last night. I think he's playing hard to get.

Tag (Tag), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:04 (twenty years ago)

He has his office, I have mine, and we occasionally talk. More importantly, he is not a micromanager and knows I am doing my job.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:06 (twenty years ago)

mine is a fucking asshole. plain and simple. I report directly to the VP and i've never seen a VP be up everyones ass like this fuckwad. amazing. he has no sense of humor and is constantly in a bad mood. the fact that he looks like george costanza doesn't help either.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:30 (twenty years ago)

My boss also doesn't know I'm on ILX all day knows I'm doing my job.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Horrible relationship, and I've only been here 4 months. Yargh.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Mine (literally) resembles Dave Foley's character from Newsradio. He's definitely about the work, but pretty cool at the same time.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 13:00 (twenty years ago)

Mine is a control freak micromanager who is up in my grill every 5 minutes.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 2 September 2004 13:46 (twenty years ago)

I have spent the last nine months pretty much managing myself (holidays etc apart) with the odd "how are you doing" or "anything you need help with" after the previous year of being watched over like a hawk. I have consequently got much more confident and better at my job. On mOnday my new boss starts, (I haven't even met her yet) and she seems (according to others) very direct and firm.....

.... and she'll be sat next to me, I may be very quiet in the next few weeks :o( and may well get worse at my job again :o((

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 2 September 2004 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Pretty well. She's quite funny sometimes and generally relaxed in a letting me do my own thing kind of way, with a How's It Going chat every so often. She's also a stickler for not having people work late (and if you can't do your work in a 35 hour week, hiring new staff to help). The rest of my co-workers can't stand her and make complaints about her that are completely unjustified, or just call her a fat bitch behind her back. Their relationship with her is terrible - they write these tight arsed emails to her asking for permission to do pretty basic own-initiative things. Maybe it's because she's on a different floor. I prefer to get up out of my seat and pop downstairs for a chat if I need advice on something. I much prefer face-to-face.

However, the boss did offer to lend me some Halle Berry DVD yesterday, so she has slipped in my estimations slightly.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I seem to have several bosses, but I guess in the end the VP is my real boss because he's the one that hired me. I have daily meetings with him to review different jobs.

He's a dork, but I'm his favorite employee, so what can you do? I listen to lots of random stories about shows on PBS and operas he likes.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:12 (twenty years ago)

Mine's great - looks something like Ethan, but bigger and older, and is extremely good at our work, and an excellent boss. I like him a lot and respect his abilities greatly - and I should note that I'm writing this from home, not from my seat facing him. He also praises me highly to his boss.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:25 (twenty years ago)

My younger boss is a bit of a micromanager (she's the one who made me switch my font from Trebuchet to Arial), but she's very good at her job and a bit of a role model for me in my current position as she's moved up in the company in the way I hope I can. My older boss is really nice, much less pernickety and with a less good memory, so I get away with more, but also feel more relaxed with her so probably make fewer mistakes.

They're both very nice people, though the younger one (who's 3 years younger than me) seems really keen to keep her work and private lives very separate.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:29 (twenty years ago)

the company i work for is just me and the other guy (my boss). he's pretty great. we go out for drinks occasionally and chat all day long. usually we do our own work and occasionally i'll ask him for advice or sign off on a project, but very occasionally he'll make an executive desision about something i don't agree on. i'll raise my hands in the air and shake them like i just don't care and go, "you're the boss. oooohhh!" he loves that.

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

LET ME REPEAT! MY VP IS A FUCKING DILDO. He just called me into his office. "Chris how are things looking with the ???? Funds are you doing your job correctly? There haven't been any errors in the hypothetical trades reviewed." I so wanted to respond with "Hey fucknuts, I've been here doing this same fucking thing for six years and now you question me." I hate this man.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:00 (twenty years ago)

there's this kid in my office who just got fired. today was his last day. however, our boss (who no one really likes) just asked him if he'd COME BACK AFTER HIS VACATION (he's leaving tomorrow for CA) to work for TWO MORE WEEKS. I believe she also said that if he didn't, then he'd lose part of his paycheck or vacation time or something. i'm a bit unclear on all of this since the boss is still around, but we're having drinks tonight & i assume we'll find out more then.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if your bosses read this.
When I work somewhere everybody is my boss. I never really know what's going on so cleaners give me a push in the right direction. My old boss was cool though. He was in one of the Scottish Regiments but asked to be transferred to some Australian Paratroop regiment so he could fight in Vietnam. That's a man who wanted to kill. I've never asked him if he killed people, but whenever he was in the room with me I would seriously consider it.

I have two jobs. Boss #1 is A-ok. Boss #2 is A-OK.
I would get a third job, but why take risks?

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 3 September 2004 01:12 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

My boss is an asshole and he and I have a horrible relationship. I've been here three years and he's reduced me to tears numerous times. I finally decided to leave and told my manager (not him) at least two months ago. The boss with whom I share an office has not mentioned the fact that I'm leaving at all. My replacement shows up on Monday and I have to train her for week. How fucking awkward is this? I wish I could just take off Friday and not come back but unfortunately I can't. Shit.

ENBB, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm leaving to start an internship and complete my last semester of MA program and he hasn't acknowledged that either. Manger just sent out email announcing the new person and said so and so is replacing Erica but didn't mention anything about where I am going or why. Assholes.

ENBB, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

my relationship with my boss is purely sexual.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

I have a good relationship with my boss. He's told me he appreciates my intelligence and I appreciate that he is so good at calming me down if I get too anxious about something.

bell_labs, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

^ lol.

Every single day I know that I have to go to work is a tense one for me. I am so happy to be leaving. I can't wait to work with people who are actually decent human beings.

ENBB, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago)

I wish I could just take off Friday and not come back but unfortunately I can't.

Do you need the week's paycheck? Will you still have some sort of business relationship with the company after you leave? Is there a chance you'll come back to that company after you're finished with your MA? Will he sabotage your future employment if you skip the last week?

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

My boss and I both do a pretty good job of staying out of each other's way -- 2500 miles between us helps. Sometimes I slack off more than she likes, and sometimes she makes me work harder than I'd like. (I had two days off in July, but I hope to spend August not lifting a finger unless it's to scratch myself.)

Rock Hardy, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 20:46 (sixteen years ago)

I acquiesce to her on everything and she luckily leaves me alone for the most part. As long as I don't arrive a minute late nor stay five minutes past scheduled, she is pretty happy. She has major tensions with other workers that I observe and I feel bad for them, but ultimately think, better them than me.

Virginia Plain, Friday, 8 August 2008 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

I get along with my bosses on the night crew just great. Maybe going to a Twins game with one next month. I consider myself lucky because there's a wisecracking cabal of right wing, Coulter worshiping, gay bashing assistant managers working the rest of the day when I'm not there.

RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 8 August 2008 02:19 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, like we have this small catalog of advertised sales called a Magalog that they often call "Liberalog", and you just have to put up with little crap like that whenever they're around.

RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 8 August 2008 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

Both names suck, tbf.

RabiesAngentleman, Friday, 8 August 2008 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

my boss is crazy, but i like her. she moves as fast as a hummingbird and has the strength of ten men, but she doesn't hold it against me that i am way slower than her and could never possibly work as hard as her (or want to for that matter).

lots of people where i work think that they are the only ones who do anything and that they do everyone else's job and that they are unappreciated and that everyone else is an idiot and a lazy good for nothing slacker. it's kinda funny. they are all right, obviously.

scott seward, Friday, 8 August 2008 02:31 (sixteen years ago)

^^yes, I totally have that complex. I'd love to get over it because it's making me very bitter.
