hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

how much time have you spent in Manhattan? i.e. are you looking more for calendar-based things to do or more for general stuff?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

For cheap thrills, I recommend the Staten Island ferry. It gives you a nice scenic view of the harbor, Statue of Liberty, etc, and it doesn't cost a dime.

Let's say I've spent a few days here and there over the last few years.
My usual guide is out of town, but left me his condo.
Staten Island Ferry sounds good. Thanks.
Any good comedy clubs I should make a point of checking out?

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

what about a good live music spot that's cheap and the band might not suck.

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Arbitrary Guide is your guide, Huck.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks!

friday night at Rothko you can see Suicide, Free Blood(!!! side project), Dead Combo and Ova Looven and dance downstairs. that's 15 or 20 bucks though.

saturday night at Tonic, 107 Norfolk, we're throwing a free disco party with a bunch of disco DJs. It's a nice, small, unpretentious space that is often home to some very fun and down-to-earth little dance parties. It's free, it's a nice bar whether you want to dance or not(you can sit in one of the big wine barrels) and there's 5 or 6 geeky record collectors playing awesome disco rarities and hits.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

not to mention the Double/Occasion/Excepter show upstairs at Tonic.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah don't forget that one! Still pissed I missed Excepter/The SB the other week.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

of course, but it's too bad y'all won't stick around instead of your own damn party. Why are there always too many parties?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

what other party is there to go to?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Hot damn, see you guys there!

xpost

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you never wanted to meet, Huck.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there's a satyrday knights party, which are the legendary parties thrown by people associated with Excepter. Many stories about Porkchop djing naked.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I just don't want to meet YOU.

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

(i'm not actually in nyc, but my kid brother is)

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Satyrday Knights' Labored Party with Cruisin' Suzin' is at 169 East Broadway, with DJs Lindsey of Negroclash and the white people's own Disco Tom, but I'll be hanging with my man Dan Selzor, at least until I can figure out what to do with Mt. Equipment.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

dead combo are GREAT live (if you don't mind jim morrison fronting suicide/a.r.e. weapons)(which i don't, shockingly)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ouch, Huck.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Y'know, I really do regret not coming to say hi to you Hstencil. Really. No joke.

Huck, Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

well I went all that way!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Disco Tom will be asked to join the next ALLDISCO party, because he's one of the few true disco warriors in this town, shame he can't be there to hear the gems brought out by the likes of us at tonic.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

not to mention the Double/Occasion/Excepter show upstairs at Tonic.

big yay. between this and free blood tomorrow, i'm a happy show-goer.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

feel free to come downstairs and say hello to the disco-goers, lp.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)
