I think I got sold a 3rd gen Ipod instead of the 4th generation one I asked for

Is the difference significant enough to bring it back?

On the plus side, as far as I can see, I got the remote control free with the 3rd gen one. On the downside no PC USB cable.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:30 (twenty years ago)

there must be negatives though.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago)

are there four buttons above the scroll wheel or are they incorporated into the scroll wheel itself?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:33 (twenty years ago)

they're above it. that means it's old doesn't it?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Am I right in thinking the battery is alot worse?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that's 3g! (and yes)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

you should take it back!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

I think I will have to. FUCKERS, I wanted to play with it NOW NOW NOW.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:36 (twenty years ago)

You don't need an iPod for that!

Mr. Obvious (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:42 (twenty years ago)

you got sonned by a wite kid over a ipod beef

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:44 (twenty years ago)

the 4G ipods have significantly better battery life. take it back.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:50 (twenty years ago)

dean otm.

I am taking it back tomorrow, it's fairly likely they were just trying to get rid of a 3G one. assholes.

Time magazine did a recent article on the new iPod which seemed to imply that although the external stuff looked the same, the internals are entirely redesigned towards future implementation of features yet to be disclosed.

For what it's worth.

Girolamo Savonarola, Friday, 3 September 2004 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Apple seem to be doing that a lot with iPods. First it was the hidden recording feature, then hidden support for .wma files, now world domination or something.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 September 2004 00:37 (twenty years ago)

(hey - maybe there is hidden support for 12 hour battery life in mine!)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 September 2004 00:38 (twenty years ago)

what the fuck is a "patsy"

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 September 2004 07:59 (twenty years ago)

Consult dictionary.com, you slack-jawed consumer oaf.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 September 2004 08:04 (twenty years ago)

I would call that person a "larry".

btw I wasn't easily taken advantage of! I asked for a 4th generation ipod and was given a third generation one. I could have checked it in the shop I guess but I presumed the person would be honest.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 September 2004 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but that won't guard against ignorance.

Girolamo Savonarola, Friday, 3 September 2004 09:02 (twenty years ago)

their ignorance? maybe yeah. I am going back in a few minutes. I just hope they don't start getting cranky.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:05 (twenty years ago)

Good luck Ronan. My 3rd gen iPod is a piece of crap - you totally need the better one.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:10 (twenty years ago)

I think I can get a refund anyway as I am fairly sure the one they gave me was missing a lead which the manual said it had, so on two fronts I am right.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:11 (twenty years ago)

my iriver's rocking my world ;o)

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:17 (twenty years ago)

What's one of them?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:25 (twenty years ago)

a rockist ipod basically, that has a decent battery life, and now I've got into it, a pretty good file system and amazing sound

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:50 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know about iPods and car tape adapters? Does it work pretty well?

'Cause I'm thinking, if I were going to buy a cd player for $200 for my new car, why not just spend a little more and get an iPod?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I don't see any reason why a tape adapter wouldn't work, but you can also buy something that'll broadcast the signal from the ipod to your car radio. I think it's $30-40, but maybe worth it. No car adapter I ever owned lasted very long.

the krza (krza), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:09 (twenty years ago)

I have a Belkin one, which sounds fine. I was lucky in that I managed to buy a car stereo with a CD player AND a line-in socket, which the iPod plugs straight into. I'm well pleased with that. Cost me £30.

the impossible shortest special path! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:10 (twenty years ago)

They work fine. Obviously, the sound isn't top quality, if you've got a great car stereo set up in other respects. There are other in-car iPod solutions - wireless etc.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:10 (twenty years ago)

it works as well as car tape adapter does really - mine gives a slight hissing noise when it's quiet but otherwise is decent. much better if your car stereo has an input jack.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

i bought the FM transmitter (it was the "iTrip" which draws power direct from the iPod) for the iPod but it didn't work on the car i hired(the signal was too weak for the car's auto tuning to pick up! and the car didn't support like manual tuning!) and the signal is blocked by the slighted obstacle so there went my dream of a mini broadcast at my home (as well as the plan to jam my neighbour's jazz music)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:15 (twenty years ago)

i use it now in the bog for the shower radio to pick up my iPod music when i poo/shower.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:16 (twenty years ago)

You realise they are ILLEGAL in this country?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 3 September 2004 13:17 (twenty years ago)

I got my ipod problem sorted.

and I found out what Alba just said too.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)
