I have just read this book and it really touched me. It is the story of a man who travels around the world, primarily developing countries with the intention of inviting someone to come and spend a month with him in America.

Anyone read this or heard about it?

Would you invite someone home - and what would you show them?

Apparently the publicity was huge when he finally got his chosen visitor permission to stay for a month. The ambassador of his visitors country invited them both to the embassy, they were featured on the radio, local television and interviewed by the BBC.

I don't want to spoil it too much but I urge everybody to read this book. It's bloody mah-ve-loss

Sounds interesting. Why did he only take one person with him? How did he choose this person?

He could only afford to take one person. I was surprised that it took almost twelve years for his chosen person to get the neccesary permission visas etc to come. If he had made more money on the sale of his first book he wanted to invite back all of the interesting characters he had met, but on returning home discoved that this was almost impossible.

He met and spoke to loads of strangers in many countries, and his conditions weren't too strict. He took a photo of each of his new friends and promised to send a letter from america when he got home. Of the few he chose only four replied.
