A great moment when it's not a two shot is when Gertrud is in the other room taking off her clothes in silouette while the pianist is playing a nocturne on the piano in the other room. The panning between the two is like the two shot that desperately wants to be.

there's also a print on the wall of a nymph undressing. there are a number of scenes (in gertrud and in other dreyer films) where the art direction echoes/mimics/anticipates/comments on the story action.

that whole scene is so amazingly carnal.
