Multi protocol IM clients

I started with a fresh install of XP in March and never bothered to re-download an IM client. Which is generally viewed as being the best?

Gaim is pretty good, and I used it for a while. I preferred it to Trillian, definitely.

However, I recently switched to just plain old MSN Messenger as it's stable, functional, and has all these stupid features that are great to use ironically. (like the profile picture, renaming yourself, etc) This means that I'm not on ICQ or AIM anymore, but I rarely spoke to anyone using those protocols anyway. (sorry ilxors, but it's true!)
