Movie plans in the works for Hawaii Five-O television seriesHONOLULU (AP) — Warner Bros. reportedly intends to make a film based on the old Hawaii Five-O TV series.
A studio official confirmed that the studio will co-produce a film based on the hit CBS series that aired from 1968 to 1980 with George Litto Productions, which owns the rights to the title, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported.
Litto’s daughter, Andria Litto, will be executive producer, and screenwriter George Nolfi (Oceans Twelve) will write the story, the newspaper said.
The choice of who to play Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord in the series) and who to direct will not be made until the script is completed and approved.
If all that occurs this fall, then the 80-day filming in Hawaii could begin late next spring for a summer 2006 release, said Litto, an agent for the series later creator, Leonard Freeman.
“We are in discussions with a major director and have been in negotiations for some time with a major star, which will be ongoing until the script is finished,” Litto said.

The first part, at least, is good. There should be two more BAH's at the end though.

1968 - 1980. Damn that's a long run.
It used to come on after the news in syndication. Whenever I'd see that crazy zoom shot of Jack Lord standing on the balcony in the opening sequence, I knew that it was about time for bed.

It's weird, I get the theme song stuck in my head all the time, despite only having seen the show once.

When I was a teenager, we played the theme song in the school wind band - from tiny sheet music designed for marching bands, far too small to read.

I've never seen the show, but we played it in band too.
