I'm not expecting much response to this one, but just in case. Its just that I've got an interview in Paris and I was wondering if anyone could recommend things to do outside the normal tourist flumf.

Nouveaux reponses.

You want to get some French grammar lessons before you go to France :)

Madchen, Wednesday, 14 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

having lived a hellish 5 months in paris, all i can recommend is the eurostar back to london... or L'As Du Felafel - "Lenny Kravitz's FAVORITE felafel"... It's on rue des rosiers in le marais. I lived in #24 rue des rosiers. You can also throw eggs at my ex-boyfriend's house: the first house on place de la bastille.

There's this little indie'ish bar/club called Pop-In somewhere on Rue Amelot. Baxendale once DJ'ed there... email me if you want - i can complain about paris to you, or maybe say something useful too

Yeah, yeah... 'nouvelles reponses.' D'oh!

dammit, I am jealous. tell me if you think they are well dressed :)

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will, if you're at Life without buildings on Saturday or indeed track and field tomorrow I can introduce you to a real life french person who'll be able to give you a few pointers.

chris, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They are, Menelaus. When I was there first time around on a visit, I managed to pick up a tailored mid-length YSL jacket, (just the right shade of green to go with my newly-purchased navy blue jeans) for about 50FF, (15 NZ dollars ??) at a market by the Chateau Les Halles. Oh, I can't wait to go back!

Oh god, the insidious seduction of consumerism...

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

whenever the French come to NZ they complain about our bad fashion sense, have mercy on me and buy me something please :)

Of course I am sure that I will get to Europe one day and it will have absolutely no impact on my bad taste whatsoever

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Chris - that would be cool - I'll check out the London Indie bulletins for info!
Menelaus - of course I'll buy you something. I can just *see* you in a little Rabane number - I've got one in my head as we speak. Is blue your colour?

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh hell yeah, but as a r ed head people say I'm only allowed to wear brown and yellow. thats what the amway people told me anyway, bastards

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pah! Don't listen to them. High in the neck, velvet, royal blue, just that side of navy, great for autumn (I know its not autumn where you are but still...)
It's *you*, miss Darcy.

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I saw a very beautiful, very red haired girl a couple of weeks ago, she was wearing a green coat (I always thought green and red was a no- no) she looked amazing.

chris, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't travel on Eurostar when there's a strike in Paris is all I'm sayin'.

rosemary, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love red-heads. *Sigh*
Search: There's a nice little film (scripted by Terrence Rattigan) called 'The Man Who Loved Redheads'. Worth a watch, because its very romantic, quite sad, very English.

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will = Charlie Brown

Emma, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tsch, don't listen to people who think redheads should stick to autumnal shades, Menelaus. You can wear pretty much any colour except for shocking pink. Dark red and green look particularly good with auburn hair though.

Madchen, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am actually rather fond of black even though it makes me look like I have a teen complex I have not wored through...

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Menelaus is a redhead??

Swoon + new vote on ILE date thread...

Mark C, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have discovered recently that redheads can wear pink after all.

Nick, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

they can do anything, but it doesn't mean it looks good...

Menelaus Darcy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I look even worse in yellow and brown than I do in other colours. I have no yellow clothes and only one brown item of clothing, which I think may clash horribly with my hair and is almost certainly a bad move with my usual jackets, which are black, but I still end up wearing it far too often because it's my Stereolab t-shirt, which is my current indie event attire of choice.

Everyone who has ever expressed an opinion on the matter has told me I look "nice" (well, let's parse that as "slightly less vile" if we want it to make sense) in blue and some shades of green - matches my eyes, or something - and should not ever ever ever wear yellow.

But there's forty different shades of red, as Stephen Malkmus probably never sang, so just because something looks less bad than might be expected for me doesn't mean it's a good idea in general.
