I shall wave that at the big boss on monday.

i skimmed the article in the paper but it seemed a bit disingenuous (it's a government scheme so...). the 50% savings seemed to be based on income tax savings (which is only 40% if you're earning enough to not have to worry about saving 50% on a decent computer), resale value (admittedly v low) and the cost of renting a similar computer for 3 years. (this was all laid out in a table what doesn't seem to appear in the online article) (they also seemed to use a £1600 computer as an example. who needs that kind of power anyway? i'm always mystified as to what normal people do with their computers other than running Office, Outlook and IE)

Hm, interesting, 'oh Mr Boss Man....'

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am setting up a scheme at my work right now. If you are a basic rate tax payer you should get a minimum of a 33% reduction in the cost of a computer, and I think (I am waiting for the dti to confirm) that you can also avoid paying VAT so you would get a reduction of about 43% reduction in price for a basic rate tax payer. A higher rate tax payer will save a little under 50%.

Also the employer will be able to avoid paying employers ni on the value of the machine, so everyones a winner!

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So it seems it is worth it after all. I wish I'd known that last year. And Pink, your company wouldn't be paying for it - in fact, if they set up a scheme that made it possible they'd get a lot of worker happiness for very little cost.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The company should actually save some costs by setting a scheme up

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I realise that Mark, just he needs to give the nod (obviously)!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Pink if you need any details of people who deal with this scheme let me know I can email some stuff to you.

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it just through your own work though Dave? (how did you get on in the pub olympics?)

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I meant if you wanted any info for you work. (I won again! Carl was a bit gutted, because he was competing this year!)

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, I'd love to have seen that. How can he adjudicate & take part? Did he tell you all to have as much fun as you like, aslong as it's organised!!
Yeah send me some stuff through if you don't mind.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 September 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

He passed on the organisational duties to little Sarah (the self styled uber-nerd), but he did get a bit heated when the competitors didn't seem to be taking things seriously.

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaa! I love it!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 September 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a cool night, the Dobblers was closed (re-furb) so most of the events were at Carl and Jo's. At about half eleven we were low on beer so Dave and I got a keg from the Dobblers (it was just like an american film) but without the chants of "Keg Keg Keg Keg" and neither Dave nor myself were referred to as Kegmeister.

Davel (Davel), Monday, 13 September 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww that;s a shame!
