Most pointless and downright dislikeable beverage on this earth.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I drink it.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I drink it.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Certainly you're not alone in thinking it's awful and pointless, and I won't try to defend it, but I do drink it.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The Italians seem to like it.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

It's good when you're out of gin.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

NOTHING's good when you're out of gin.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes you have to make do with anything sparkly.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's very refreshing after a heavy meal.

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The perfect acompaniment to wine with a meal. Opens up the palate a treat. My favourite brands are the highly mineralised naturally sparkling ones like Vichy Catalan and Badoit.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 12 September 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

You're just mad cuz u couldnt get one of those little San Pelly bottles up yr boo tay

LC, Sunday, 12 September 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

There truly is no division between high and low culture anymore.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was in Germany in 1995 everyone seemed to drink it. I think it tastes very odd, like you can taste the bubbles because the water doesn't cover it up. Yes, disgusting.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 12 September 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Second vote for Badoit. Possibly the most refreshing thing on the planet.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I drink it.

ty nant.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. My mum told me that her doctor told her that it blocks the absorption of minerals such as calcium though. Is this true?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 12 September 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

nothing that makes you feel like an asshole when you order it is pointless

jones (actual), Sunday, 12 September 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It's nice with whiskey.

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 12 September 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's nice with a whole lotta things...when you want the bubbly burn that quenches your thirst, but you don't want some sickly flavor.
excellent with wine, more interesting than water...

paulhw (paulhw), Sunday, 12 September 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

totally bizarre

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 12 September 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My mum drinks it, it's one of her beloved luxuries in life (along with java chip ice cream and, once in awhile, dove bars).

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 12 September 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it, it's just nicer than regular water.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Sunday, 12 September 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm addicted to Crystal Geyser sparkling water myself. Might be a total fraud but it gives me a carbonation fix without actually drinking soda.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 September 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, see i don't like soda and don't need water to be interesting

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 12 September 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, seek out vichy catalan (Vilandry have it),if you like badoit it ought to be right up your street.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 12 September 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

gabbneb otm

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I do only because my mom buys it

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It's Aja!

I will, Ed, but I have to say that i don't really do soft drinks other than tap water (and juice for breakfast). I think it's because that's how it was the last decade I lived with my folks.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it's me.

Man. I'm so bored right now! I think I'll have an orange sparkling mineral water.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ice is more important in water than fizz.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

But my mineral water is already cold

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the anger that some posters are displaying towards harmless old sparkling water should be redirected towards that flavoured water that's everywhere at the moment. What's the point? Either drink water or drink fruit juice!

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but spakling mineral water makes me burb really loudly

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing like a good loud burb.

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw that film on my first ever date!

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a film?

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, flavored water is worse than sparkling water. but it learned it from you, Dad.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread has inspired me to try my first EVER whisky and soda. I'm not sure I've got it right - what proportions should I use? Ice?

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Always use ice.`

Aja (aja), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

definitely add ice. i like a 4:2 proportion of soda to whiskey, ie 2 fingers of booze to 4 fingers of soda in a rocks glass over ice.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I think mine's a bit weaker than that (and I made it in a very small glass) but not miles away. And I guess it's better for me than G/V&T as it doesn't have sugary tonic water (and no, I can't drink slimline, it tastes like detergent).

(not long to go now, Lauren! Are you excited?)

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(YES!)

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The Italians seem to like it.

I got totally hooked on it while in Italy this summer. I mean, I'd had it here and there previously and never thought much about it, but suddenly they're pushing it on you at every meal -- when they take your water order, they always ask, "wiz gaz or wizout gaz?" -- and we got into saying, "Wiz gaz!" It's good. It's bubbly. It does do all that palate cleansing stuff, as opposed the potentially deadening effects of dull tapwater. An underappreciated beverage option.

spittle (spittle), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do you have such an unpleasant name/email, spittle? Makes me feel icky reading your posts.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea. I must have been in a weird mood when I picked the name. I guess I could change it.

spittle (spittle), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Up to you I guess. It just seems unnecessarily unpleasant, antisocial, kind of.

(I wouldn't really listen to me much, though, I have odd ideas)

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 12 September 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

how to make the perfect whisky sour? can you use any whisky? and, squeezed cocktail lemon slices' juice? I'm running low on supplies. : /

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

hm.. if you don't have sour mix, then try blending the lemon juice with some powdered sugar and shaking with whiskey and ice. you could also drink it neat, LIKE A MAN.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to despise sparkling water.

However recently I'm really enjoying it. sorry adam.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

But listen to this. Maybe we just want Sancerre. Perrier -- poor substitute.

youn, Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Carola Rouge is yer man

jadrenos (jadrenos), Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it and I will open a can of Black Man WHUPASS on any haters.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Sunday, 12 September 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Good heavens, you great lushes. (Then again I'll be going to my usual Sunday night haunt tonight and having a drink or two, maybe I'll get a whiskey and soda myself.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 September 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Whisky neat is never the right way to go, taste-wise. If it's cheap muck then stick in some mixer to mask the taste, if it's good stuff then dilute it with spring water so you can taste it properly - neat overpowers your taste buds.

I don't even drink whisky. Well, sometimes.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 12 September 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

a little water.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

who the FUCK drinks glayva?

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 12 September 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i want sancerre all of the time.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 12 September 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

hi aja!

i'm disappointed that this isn't an alex thread.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 12 September 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate carbonated drinks, so no way am I drinking sparkling water.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Whats the difference between sparkling mineral water and soda water, really? Except perhaps some trace elements that mean fuck all and would probably give you kidney stones in large amounts anyway?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 13 September 2004 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i drink it! still water is boring.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 13 September 2004 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

whiskysour:

4 whisky
2 fresh lime juice
1 sugar syrup
1egg white
shake vigorously over ice and pour into old fashioned glass

Ed (dali), Monday, 13 September 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Vichy Catalan water is kind of like natural Lucozade. People snaffle it in the summer in Barcelona so they don't get heatstroke/dehydration etc.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 13 September 2004 05:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I just had one last week, but it was only because I was at the same Italian deli I eat lunch at every goddamn week, and I was ordering a piece of pizza, as I do every goddamn week, and I thought, well how can I mix this up a bit? So I got a San Pellegrino. Then I thought, I just spent two bucks on fizzy water?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 13 September 2004 05:31 (twenty-one years ago)

But you know, you guys all like soda, so I'm not surprised.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 13 September 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i love sparkling mineral water, in summer with a slice of lemon or dash of lime and bitters, or just on its own when i have a hangover

gem (trisk), Monday, 13 September 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

I love this shit.

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

Esp. when it's hot or I'm hangedover.

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

I even like generic stuff.

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

putting an egg white in your whiskey sour should carry a criminal penalty

J0hn D., Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:07 (eighteen years ago)

i remember being at a wedding in iasi, romania, during a hot summer's day and i ducked out, absolutely dying in my tuxedo. i wandered around, and eventually found a shop selling water. i bought a bottle, started walking back and lo and behold, it was fucking sparkling water. there was no refreshment to be had. horrible stuff.

Gukbe, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

The first time I went to a co-op/fancy grocer, I went in to get a bottle of water & they had about 100 different kinds & I was too overwhelmed to decide & I walked out back into the crushing heat.

Abbott, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

bubblier the better, i feel.

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:13 (eighteen years ago)

Meh. I don't hate it but I never think it's worth paying for in a restaurant.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

What does "sparkling" mean in "sparkling mineral water"

Heave Ho, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:33 (eighteen years ago)

it has gas

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

My girlfriend loves this stuff and puts it in juice and vodka.

I hate this shit.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:38 (eighteen years ago)

As Kenan said

Certainly you're not alone in thinking it's awful and pointless, and I won't try to defend it, but I do drink it

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

I won't try to defend it, but I do drink it.

What else can we say this about?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:41 (eighteen years ago)

low fat milk

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:42 (eighteen years ago)

the brand of vodka i'm drinking right now!

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)

Jaeger bombs. gack.

Drooone, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:44 (eighteen years ago)

I live in a country where the tap water is deliciously potable so sparkling mineral water is the only reason to buy water at all. YUM.

jim, Thursday, 12 July 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

it works well in mixed drinks, but on it's own, i'm not convinced.

Gukbe, Thursday, 12 July 2007 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

I drink this now. Old me was wrong.

admrl, Thursday, 12 July 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

Kudos.

jim, Thursday, 12 July 2007 02:38 (eighteen years ago)

I can't fucking drink, I'm out of cigarettes. They don't work without each other.

Laurel, Thursday, 12 July 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

The first time I went to a co-op/fancy grocer, I went in to get a bottle of water & they had about 100 different kinds & I was too overwhelmed to decide & I walked out back into the crushing heat.

In Soviet Russia...

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:30 (eighteen years ago)

They don't work without each other.

I can smoke without drinking. Like a diesel engine.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

I hated sparkling water until I spent a week at my relatives' house in Germany a few summers ago. It was over 100 degrees that week and the only non-alcoholic drink they had besides the gross tap water was sparkling water. I grew to love the stuff and now drink it almost daily although I tend to favor the naturally flavored ones.

ENBB, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:41 (eighteen years ago)

Try this favorite cocktail of mine: Lemon Perrier and cranberry juice. Half and half.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

That's my new favorite drink just by the description.

ENBB, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

and the only non-alcoholic drink they had

i get it now

Gukbe, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

putting half and half in your cranberry juice should carry a criminal penalty.

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 12 July 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

why i audda...

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 04:00 (eighteen years ago)

Try this favorite cocktail of mine: Lemon Perrier and cranberry juice. Half and half.

SOMETHING IS MISSING HERE

I DIED, Thursday, 12 July 2007 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

Vodka wouldn't hurt it, but if I'm drinking alcohol, I'm not generally reaching for the perrier and cran as well.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

I'm reaching for the nearest stable object, more often.

kenan, Thursday, 12 July 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

Delicious again Peter
