the nether regions: waxed, shaved, trimmed or au naturel?

From a purely aesthetic point of view, I say au naturel for men and trimmed and shaped for women. I suppose it depends on how hairy you are though.

Leia, Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, men should not fuck with their body hair. Ever. Though I did try an interestingly named product called Nads on Kevs leg once, to see if their claim of 'painless hair removal' was true.

It wasn't.

Men who trim their pubic hair: insecure or thoughtful?

Au natural is not always good - i think trimming is best for most guys.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Last year my gf went for the full wax - the result was sexy yet bizarre... all in all I think I prefer the trimmed effect. When and why did it become de rigueur in porn for women to have no pubic hair?

fred shed, Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

However she prefers her nether regions is more than fine with me.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing with porn women having no pubic hair is curious - I wonder if it's linked to the Internet and the ubiquity of porn and therefore the need to go a step further and make women "even more nude". It's sort of weird though. I'm wondering whether it's about making women look like prepubescents, which is certainly a disturbing idea. Not that I'm "against" shaving and waxing at all, it's just the ubiquity of it in porn that's slightly odd.

leila, Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It's interesting that you brought up the prepubescent thing, because that has always irked me about porn and the growing trend to remove all pubic hair. It *does* transmogrify the woman into some kind of child.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps it treats the hair as another layer that can be removed (and should be for the closest intimacy) - certainly from a practical point of view, it'd be a lot easier to see all the necessary bits when there's no hair to get in the way.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Or in the teeth.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Or the eyes, or the nose, or other ticklish places...

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I have ever gotten a pubic hair in my eye.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

hair is not your enemy

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 16 September 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

My guess on the ubiquity of lack of pubic hair on women in porn is that the style allows them to disguise the fact that probably 90% of the blondes in porn (and in rl) are bottle blondes.

When I was a kid, based on my exposure to various bottle blondes I assumed that pubic hair was just naturally darker than the what's on top. Now I have discovered that natural pubic hair is a shade or half a shade lighter than the natural color on top! Why is that? Wouldn't hair on top be lighter due to repeated exposure to the sun? Should I ask Cecil about this?

I hate the shaved pussies, the long Lee press-on fingernails, and botched titty jobs on the pornlets. Biggest turn-off ever. Even the male performers in boy/girl porn are shaving. Lame. Hair is sexy. There is hardly anything more unattractive than the razor burns on a performer's cooch with melanic hairs irritatingly poking through the bumps combined with ass acne.

I can't even stand the "trimmed" look. I like pubes that are unabashedly luxuriant and innocent of the cruel razor.

This shaved look is so sterile and creepy. I can't help but equate it with "blondes" faking pleasure for money.

Shaved is so prevalent in porn because you can see the bits easier.

oops (Oops), Friday, 17 September 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think michaelangelo's david ever trimmed or shaved, and he made out all right didn't he?

personally, i trim because my lady prefers that. and it's a little more hygienic, cos i'm very very hairy and curly and stuff.

probably too much information. sue me.

Darraghmac, Friday, 17 September 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Germaine Greer discusses the 'hair' issue in The Whole Woman. Her take was that it was both partly to do with prepubescence and just a general sense that less hair = more feminine, in the same way that more hair = more masculine. As an observation this is rather mundane, so I will have to dig the book out again to do her any justice, as I am horribly oversimplifying.

That, and some blokes don't like fuzzy tacos.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 17 September 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

but many do. my friend loves earth mama bush. and hair used to be the norm back in the day. but yeah, the trend now is to prefer shaved, if only because it's different (from the old standard) and still perceived as naughty.

oops (Oops), Friday, 17 September 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope this thread is a convenient excuse to invent euphemisms for the chicken maryland hairyland, because so far it's working supremely well.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 17 September 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

does 'big hairy minge' count as a euphemism?

Darraghmac, Friday, 17 September 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a horrible memory of the time, as a teenager, I discovered my dad's porn stash. The mag on the top of the pile said, on the cover: "SPECIAL ISSUE: SHAVEN HAVENS!"

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

a friend who has recently re-entered single life due to divorce reports that since his last time in the dating pool (about 10 years ago), clean shaves seem to have become ubiquitous. he speculated that it's an effect of exposure to internet porn, but i don't think he's actually asked anyone why the shaving. and obv. he's not exactly conducting a scientific sample.

Cracking timing for a revive, seeing as this is in today's Daily Mail:

TO WAX OR NOT TO WAX - HAVE WOMEN EVER FACED A GREATER DILEMMA?

Reader comments run the full gamut of madness:

This sentence confuses and concerns me.

xpost i know it predates polls, i was just mentally expecting it to be one from the title --

Apart from long flowing head hair..women should be smooth and hairless for their men.

It's not even entirely true. I've known a few natural blondes with darker hair elsewhere.
