personally, my workplace is a smorgasbord. our kitchen (located conveniently beside my office) is stocked with donuts, cookies (pepperidge farm no less), pretzels, crackers, chips, fruit, cheese, nuts, and every and all manner of snack food. also, fresh coffee all day and a wide assortment of sodas and juices in the fridge. any of it is up for grabs, any arrangement which i feel may be unusual. input, please, on the vittles at your place of employment!

You LUCKY DUCK.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa hey emily! uh we get donuts on Fridays, other than that, nada.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Your work is awesome.
I didn't even have any lunch today.

Craig Gilchrist, Friday, 17 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

*flustered* GIVE US YOUR KITCHEN.

There's food over in the kitchen area somewhere but personally I win given that I have a small mini fridge near my desk, salvaged from the Reserves move of almost a year ago. And right now in it are a slew of Cadbury chocolates bought by a student and given to us as a gift upon her return from England for the summer. There is also a fresh Pink Lady apple on my desk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just been given three packs of dental chewing gum.

Also, a colleague gave me a Boots Shapers fruit salad because she forgot her throat was burning.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

We don't have anything right now, but we typically have b-grade candies and pastries if we have anything. Last week we had Hostess chocolate cupcaks and twinkies, and earlier this week we had those weird Mary Jane chewy peanut butter candies.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

pretzels and soda.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, all we have is instant coffee and hot chocolate. Which I mix together, yummmmmmmmmm.

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

what the hell is Boots Shapers fruit salad? some sort of shoe polish/citrus medley?

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

black tea, green tea (provided by me), coffee, on fridays we get croisants and swiss roll for our company breakfast.

Ed (dali), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Free Bagels and donuts on Fridays. Donuts, while tasting splendiferous, cause immediate regret.

Free coffee for fatass office drones to slurp too.

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

EMILY! OMG YOU HAVE JOB NOW!?! I MISS YOU!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

*blinks* Hey you're right, it IS the long missing Emily! I feel foolish for not noticing this. How d'ya do?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, and hey to joel and ned. i have been without internet for awhile, but i somehow survived!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And now you're back in style, and with food and drink to make us all jealous. Amazing!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

At the last printing company I worked for, I knew we were heading for bankruptcy when they stopped buying coffee for the break room. Six months later, the owner was doing a 39-month federal sentence for check kiting.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Emily!! (nice to see you back!)
I wish we had donuts!! Although, our kitchen is pretty well stocked, it has the following items ready for the eating...
salted nuts
walkers crisps (various flavours)
mccoys crisps (various flavours)
french fries (walkers crisps)
ritz sandwich biscuits
rice crispie bars
crunchies
maltesers
minstrels
bountys (both types of choc)
kit kats (chunky & 4 finger)
snickers
mars
picnics
mint aeros
wagon wheels
polos
chewing gum
Nice healthy stuff huh?!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

what the hell is Boots Shapers fruit salad? some sort of shoe polish/citrus medley?

Boots is the biggest UK chain of chemists (=pharmacies). They sell sandwiches and other stuff for office workers' tummies too. Mainly 'healthy options'. 'Shapers' is their flashship slimming range.

I don't really like Boots, but the fruit salad was nice.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Boots also do a roast chicken and stuffing sandwich, which is probably better than a salad.

Craig Gilchrist, Friday, 17 September 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Up in this piece, most people label their stuff and not sharing. We do however have some things that are up for grabs for anyone. Here are some of the communal office kitchen staples (not actual staples like the kind that hold pieces of paper together, though):

*a roughly 1 cubic foot sized cardboard box completely full of soy, sweet & sour, and oyster sauces
*this creepy liquid non-dairy coffee creamer
*a box full of instant hot chocolate packets
*a huge jar of fat-free mayo
*a bag of soy crisps
*7 cans of Diet Sprite
*a tub of cream cheese
*some big tupperware thing full of something that's green
*a bowl of really shitty generic butterscotch candies
*horrible packets of pre-ground coffee grinds from a company called Office Coffee that make coffee that tastes like wet rotten cardboard, hence the bag of Fair Trade beans in the freezer and the bean grinder on top of the fridge

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

However, this morning somebody brought a shit ton of pastries from MAGEE'S BAKERY which were all so ridiculously tasty. I ate half an almond croissant and half a scone.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, our donuts are from magee's too nick! and they are fabulous. also, i just got word that we are closing down the office and going out for lunch, on the firm. today is foodtastic!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I just walked into the kitchen and found pretzel sticks. Mmm, healthy but salty.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The other day a co-worker brought in an entire store-display bucket of Atomic Fireballs. I'm compulsive about candy if it's right there in front of me, so my tastebuds have been scorched all week.

briania (briania), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i only suck on those until the red wears off, then toss them. it will save you from the "tongue afire" effect. you can get giant tubs of them at sam's club.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

law firms feed people like crazy.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

But then you can sue the firms for feeding you all this stuff should there be problems. Surely.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

hi emily!!! you have made me hungry.

although there is a ton of stuff here at my NEW JOB working for THE DEMOCRATS. But I don't want to spoil my dinner with

pop tarts
cheezits
chips
soda
water

okay not a bounty, but I brought in donuts and apples yesterday.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 September 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

law firms feed people like crazy

Not mine. We have coffee, water and a soda machine.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 September 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
well... for the second week in a row it's looking like i'll top 80 hours at the office (if the trend continues) and tonight i am eating... croutons... for dinner. i got my wallet stolen a couple of days and haven't gotten my new cards yet. didn't bring any cash. don't have my checkbook. so i was forced to choose between a frozen "Dodger Dog" (a vile forzen piece of ambiguous meat modeled after the famous stadium staple) and croutons. i opted for the croutons.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 10 February 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

I have three (smallish) packets of cookies and a packet of shortbread in the bottom drawer of my desk at the moment, just waiting for the right occasion.

(they're left over from my birthday)

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

I have a jar of Swedish ginger biscuits on my desk.

My coworker's office is stocked with tea of all kinds, coffee, muesli, chocolate, dried fruit, fresh fruit, boiled sweets, more biscuits and probably loads more random stuff stashed in drawers. She rarely eats any of it; it's kind of the same principle as her first aid box - to be drawn upon in physical/emotional emergencies whomsoever should suffer them.

Meanwhile in the stationery cupboard - MY DOMAIN BWAHAHA - we have a fridge full of wine and various crisps and snacks stolen from past hospitality type events.
