Here I am looking at this picture, thinking it must be from a story about Belsan, but no, it's Falluja

It's all turning even more ridiculously disgusting. And so I can but patiently wait on November.

"The Bush administration, however, continues to argue publicly the U.S. is making good progress in Iraq, with the President saying Thursday that "freedom is on the march" in Iraq, citing scheduled elections in January next year."

He'll keep saying that, of course. I delight in how his words will eventually choke him, I fear, loathe and despair over what it will take for that to happen.

mission accomplished.

And yet, the polls I saw this morning put Bush ten points in the lead. Wtf is up with you guys?

Huk-L, Friday, 17 September 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Willful delusion, my dear Mr. Huck.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's unwillingness to admit mistakes, all around. People can only be supporting Bush because they're lifelong Republicans... There's no other plausible explanation (except screw loose.)

the difference being?

I lost it earlier and started cursing (". . . and I am sick of this administration and sick of this fucking war!") at the White House comment line person, after starting off calmly and reasonably. Like that's going to do any good (no matter how it's done).

Then I made the mistake right after of buying a copy of The Impossible Will Take a Little While, without actually looking it over, since it was on sale right there in the lobby of the library where I work. I caught part of the editor's talk, and I suspected I had made a mistake. It's too touchy-feely-personal-inspirational, and I can't see any good reason for reprinting Maya Angelou's "I Rise" once again. Everything I've read by Diane Ackerman has been pretty flat. And Vacalav Havel, whose Letters to his wife ultimately bored me with their vaguely inspirational watered down Heidegger. (I'm glad it helped him through prison. A Course in Miracles quite honestly got me through summer school once.) The speaker himself seemed a bit slack intellectually.

those polls were freaking me out earlier in the week, but there's about 3 new polls that came out that show the race tied. Bush couldn't seriously gain 13 points in two weeks.

handsomish HuckL: What IS up with us??? I have NO IDEA, but I sure wish I knew. Majority Stupidity? A John Wayne die-with yer-boots-on mentality? Oh, I know--a Zell Miller Hero worship: "AH wish Ah cud CHALLENGE yew to a Dew-el" complex....
