I'm going to see a screening of a mate's film in a pub in a couple of hours.

Are you or any of yr mates into film-making? Tell me about amateur films that you have made or seen.

I used to be fairly good friends with Mike McCarthy, or should I say, J. Michael McCarthy, director of such delights as Teenage Tupelo, The Sore Losers, Damselvis, etc. I fell out of touch with him when I moved to CA, and feel kinda bad for not getting back in touch when I moved back to MS. I had bit parts in two of those, and cooked for the cast and crew for a few days during the Sore Losers shoot.

Actually, I shouldn't have posted here. Mike's films aren't amateur, they're just made under severe budgetary constraints.

I am an "amateur" filmmaker, I guess. I have made a couple of nonsensical 16mm shorts, one of which I am possibly hoping to screen in SF next month if I can motivate myself. I also shoot super-8 nonsense.

it was very good. Lots ofd ppl turned up. We had the added bonus of a silent run-through with direcotr's commentary afterwards and then someone brought along a DVD of a video that the guy had made.

Ha! my boss was in Teenage Tupelo (L'il Oscar) and the guy who shot it works in my office as well. I think JMM has another one coming out soon...

I used to dabble a bit, but lately it seems that work monopolizes all of my time. And I'm lazy.

This is my thread! Hoorah! I finished editing a short project called

"Gus is dumped and makes bread to attract the Russian girl downstairs into having make-up sex with him"

with fairly straightforward content.
