Why is there no ILX celebrity sighting thread?

We are better than Pop Bitch.

I was looking for one because me and kyle saw K3anu R33v3s at The Black Rider in SF last night. He had a nice chocolate brown suit on and had a great dirty beard that covered most of his face. He was pretty tall and was accompanied by a lady with crazy hair. I thought he looked good but both of the wives said he looked like ass, so I assume that they were probably more right than I.

Long may the sightings (and observations) continue. Maybe keep them googleproof tho'.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sp3nc3r Ch0w should not be allowed to post to this thread, though he did have quite a funny story about 4dr13n br0dy if I recall correctly.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

There are a few, I think

Like brushes with greatness (again)

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

d'oh. I knew there was one somewhere. Sorry. :(

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Accidental Encounters With The Rich and Famous?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Phi1 from Radi0h3ad, with a couple of his really cute kids, walking past the cafe where I was having my lunch today.

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

okay okay. I will go and flog myself now.

xpost

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

because it would be dull

Ed (dali), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

bah those other threads aren't googleproof!! this is the one where you can be mean!

for instance what jellybean means to say is: Ph1l's children looked like ass.

jones (actual), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean really, who gives a shit about seeing someone you have never met on the other side of the street.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Because they're like... gods!

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I understand what you are saying (in essence), Ed.

But I just think it's fun.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't seen famous people. I either get thier autograph or meet them. They're all musicians though.

I also play baskettball with them. I played baskettball with Chris Brokaw and two guys from Kinski.

Aja (aja), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

See? fun.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean see them as in spot them across the street.

I'm not blind

Aja (aja), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i only get excited by sightings of d-list slebs i otherwise have no interest in. like the food network's jill cordes!

A. Atom Gorgon (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I love it that the thread linked to by Aaron above is ALL him and Spencer!

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Aja I'm in awe of you. KINSKI!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

L4ur4 D3rn definitely looks better in real-life at a smoky bar than she does in teh movies.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Why exactly are we googleproofing?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Celebrities like to google themselves and shoot anyone who looks at them in the street.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I just thought we could save the moderators having to deal with umpteen requests for pimped rides and record deals.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

But yes, there is "the James Brown factor" as described by Ally C.

adam. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i luv my britney sighting. it ended up with her grabbing me by the elbow and screaming, "i love this song!" when the dj played 'you shook me all night long.'

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 September 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren, that is great!

rainy (rainy), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

she was extremely cute and endearing in person. my friend was like, "oh my god! she's just like any other 20 yr old girl, drunk on cosmos at a cheesy club!"

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was just at the Emmys)

ex-jeremy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

You people make me and James Brown sick.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I will avoid this thread so as to not monopolize it with all of the B-listers that plague Los Angeles.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, you mean all of them?

ex-jeremy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I am unable to go anywhere without instantly recognizing all of the celebrities that are around me. I was cursed by a witch.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU ARE NOT TO TALK ABOUT THAT!

Saucy Tart (x Jeremy), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Orchard Street. It's all coming back. Traumatic, I can tell you.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 19 September 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Don McKellar (Highway 61, The Red Violin) walking down College Street the other day. He saw me too, but no one cares about that.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ne1l Mitch3ll goes to my gym. I should have bonced him with a 32.5kg weight while I had the chance.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in the pub earlier tonight, and Rob Newman was in there looking like an absolute tramp. His hair was long and unkempt, he had a huge beard, and he was slumping across the bar in a very drunken manner. It was a bit depressing, truth be told.

Less recently, I saw Ricky Gervais on Oxford Street wearing a very Brentesque leather jacket.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

My big sightings:

Conor Oberst with a girl on each arm walking past the Virgin Megastore in NY.

El-P in the line of a deli in Port Authority.

Rikki Rockett looking at women's clothing stores on South Street in Philly (I supposedly just missed CeCe Deville in platform shoes).

David Cross making frowny faces while waiting for Blonde Redhead to start already at the Siren Festival this year.

Chris Weisz (star of Chuck & Buck and co-director of American Pie & About A Boy), waiting for the tube in London. I actually said hi and did the little polite fan thing.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Erstwhile S3cret Lif3 star Deb0rah Mai1m4n made a pass [of sorts] at my mate in a bar.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

crikey, did he take her up on it?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Dumb twat he is.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

to be tasteless for a moment, i imagine she would bang like an outside toilet door in a hurricane

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

El-P in the line of a deli in Port Authority.

Emerson, Lake, and Palmer?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 20 September 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

P4tsy P4lmer was waiting at my bus stop this morning, with three children presumably hers. Apparently P4u1 McC4artn3y has now moved to Hove too although I doubt he'll be taking the bus to Whitehawk at any point.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 20 September 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I cycled past Gordon R4ms4y in Richmond Park last weekend. He had on proper hardcore jogging gear and looked IN THE ZONE. He probably hates cyclists on his jogging track (it was between Roehampton and Robin Hood gates, Richmond Park afficionados).

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I sat behind Matthew Corbett at a recent Peter Kay show

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(I always look forward to my posts)

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste wins!!!!

Rikki Rockett, that rules Anthony!

I've not seen that many famous people of late, let me think...

Patrick Stewart in a theatre audience
J0 Gu3st at HMV in Oxford St, but that was last Christmas
Dick from Dick'n'Dom in Da Bungalow, in Ealing
Simon from Pop World at HMV in Oxford Street
The 411 in a window, but they wanted to be seen

jel -- (jel), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

When I worked on the tills at Forbidden Planet Danny Baker was always trying to push in to the queue by chatting to random people with an 'I'm famous, me' type attitude.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i met a fiery furnace this weekend, we chatted abt cities.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

jerry seinfeld.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

A N. Wilson today. LOL celebrity.

Starmer: "Let the children boogie, let all the children boogie." (Tom D.), Wednesday, 27 October 2021 09:22 (four years ago)

I can't think of A.N. Wilson without thinking of that amazing literary hoax from years back by the rival Betjeman scholar.

Lily Dale, Wednesday, 27 October 2021 13:00 (four years ago)

I enjoyed how it was "A N Wilson is a shit" rather than "is shit" or "is a cunt" - somehow both ruder and more classy a putdown.

edited to reflect developments which occurred (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 27 October 2021 13:22 (four years ago)

and it has such a lovely rhythm to it too

Lily Dale, Wednesday, 27 October 2021 13:33 (four years ago)

Samuel L Jackson was eating in the small Italian diner Da Sandro in Birchencliffe, Huddersfield last night. Not that I was there, but wtf!

Last of the Summer Wine reboot takes an unexpected turn?

Tim, Sunday, 23 January 2022 10:54 (three years ago)

The Runaway Bathtub extended universe. He's been in Halifax and Leeds filming some shite and is having a round at Fixby golf club today!

calzino, Sunday, 23 January 2022 11:01 (three years ago)

the previous most famous person to dine there was Lee Clark

calzino, Sunday, 23 January 2022 11:12 (three years ago)

Chris Morris was in our local fishmongers, being quite charming.

Tim, Wednesday, 14 June 2023 13:03 (two years ago)

Could you see his birthmark, or was he covering it up?

lord of the rongs (anagram), Wednesday, 14 June 2023 13:26 (two years ago)

Saw him in the library twice. Terrible dress sense.

Renaissance of the Celtic Trumpet (Tom D.), Wednesday, 14 June 2023 14:38 (two years ago)

Claire Grogan. I was on the 91 on my way into work when I spotted her getting off at the stop outside Pentonville Prison - but I'm trying not to read too much into that. I wasn't sure it was her at first but then I noticed she had an Altered Images shoulder bag.

John Donne In Concert (Tom D.), Thursday, 20 July 2023 08:09 (two years ago)

And there was I dreaming that she lived in Cumbernauld.

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 20 July 2023 08:25 (two years ago)

Is CIndy Blackman really related to RIck James? Asking for a friend, who has been dining out on that story for years.

Live and Left Eye (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 28 July 2023 20:58 (two years ago)

four months pass...

Rod Stewart. I was passing through St Pancras Station on my lunch break and noticed a grand piano and drumkit had been set up. Coming back there was Rod and Jools Holland deep in discussion. His hair is still very impressive.

Tom D has a right to defend himself (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 13:08 (one year ago)

Ha I was walking into a big Central Park NYC playground maybe 10 years ago and noticed a dude right in front of me with that same unmistakable hair. He turned to hold the gate for me and indeed it was Rod.

Saw John Stamos and Ben Stiller the same day on a long walk to Tribeca. Huge day for celebraties.

tobo73, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 13:34 (one year ago)

I was on the number 30 bus in Dalston recently alongside Bobby Gillespie. And in a café in Birmingham with Jess Phillips. Never see anyone up here except Pat sodding Nevin everywhere I go.

ailsa, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:01 (one year ago)

Rod Stewart seems like a really decent bloke from what I can gather – filling in potholes, calling Sky News offering to pay for people's scans, joining in with some bloke who was busking on Piccadilly Circus. (Not all at the same time.)

lord of the rongs (anagram), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:05 (one year ago)

(xp) I'm assuming "tenement kid" Boab was ripping up bus seats with a switchblade and generally menacing his fellow passengers.

Tom D has a right to defend himself (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:09 (one year ago)

Hey Tom D., how about a new Boab sketch?

lord of the rongs (anagram), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:27 (one year ago)

xp you'd think, wouldn't you? Rather than just dodging out of the rain with his freedom pass.

ailsa, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:35 (one year ago)

LOL

Tom D has a right to defend himself (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:36 (one year ago)

It would have to have been a free bus ride of course.

Tom D has a right to defend himself (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 14:37 (one year ago)

Rod does seem a decent bloke but also he's a Tory, so, y'know. His performative good deeds are good things to do, but it'd be nice to think he also does things when there's not a press following watching him do it. Saying that, he does turn up in local pubs round here sometimes before Celtic games* and get his round in (never when I'm there, though my other half has seen him, so I can't add him to the celebrity spotting thread in my own right, closest I get to watching football in the pub with a celeb is Paolo Nutini)

* Probably because we're right next to the airport - Tom D will be aware of his old haunts of the Wee Barrel and the Watermill Hotel

ailsa, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 17:49 (one year ago)

Getting a round in? That doesn't sound like Rod, he's notoriously the most tight fisted man in rock music... apart from Ray Davies of course.

Tom D has a right to defend himself (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 17:57 (one year ago)

lol rod’s tory+celtic allegiances makes him the perennial target of the celtic reddit

polyamerie "it's more than this 1 thing" (m bison), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 19:07 (one year ago)

I ran into Joe Biden at a CVS in Wilmington, DE on Easter Sunday in 2017. Got to say hello and shake his hand. I think that has to be the high water mark for my celebrity sightings.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 19:46 (one year ago)

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 20:50 (one year ago)

brimstead, Tuesday, 5 December 2023 21:23 (one year ago)

Banal celebrity sighting: I got on a train with John Inverdale last week. He was carrying a golf bag and looked like he'd just got up.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 21:58 (one year ago)

That will only mean something to a particular subset of UK posters and even to them will mean less than a shrug.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Tuesday, 5 December 2023 21:59 (one year ago)

Talking of banal "celebrity" sightings, I just this minute saw Ian Blackford on Holloway Road. He was hand in hand with his wife (I assume), which was kind of sweet.

Crack's Addition (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 26 March 2025 21:34 (seven months ago)

Tommy Wiseau in WeHo supermarkets twice in last 6 months. Still bizarre but now old and a bit frail, the voice is crazy irl lol. he was actually in the middle of some podcast interview the last time I saw him while shopping, multitask king I guess.

buzza, Wednesday, 5 November 2025 11:20 (one hour ago)

Year ago I was at a Gerhard Richter retrospective at SFMOMA. There weren't that many people, but there was a regal redhead one room ahead of us as we went through. It was Bonnie Raitt, soaking it all in.
