at the moment i seem to be in the habit of singing "love goes home to paris in the spring", at least in part cos whenever i sing in the shower i end up putting on a deep bass voice. and you?

toby, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'You don't sparkle in my eyes' - My Life Story (with attendant swinging of shower like Jake used to do with his mike cable).
Rachmaninov's Variations on a theme by Paganini
No Regrets - Scott Walker
Don Giovanni - Mozart
What She Said - The Smiths
Tell Me its not True (from the Blood Brothers OST)
assorted Abba.

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

this week i am mostly singing 100,000 Fireflies, largely just the last bit.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lovesick Blues, the Patsy Cline version.

Samantha, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

we once o'erheard my sister singing "rock the cradle of love" and she's never lived it down.

i typically sing swans or mag fields songs, only because they're the only two bands i listen to with vocalists deep enough to emulate effectively.

jess, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Some Neil Diamond, "My Funny Valentine", an occasional snippet from a Franklin Bruno or Jenny Toomey song - anything that lets me pretend I'm Ethel Merman.

David Raposa, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the 2nd cd of godspeed's lift yr skinny fists album

Geoff, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"What I Did For Love" & "Another Openin... Another Show..." & Sleater-Kinney & "when My Baby's Beside Me" & "Build Me Up (Buttercup)" & "You've lost that lovin' feeling"

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It always seems to be "I've got you under my skin"

Damn scabies.

Mark C, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Upside Down" or some other disco-ey type thing...

Nicole, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aaargh! Another Build me up Buttercup singer! And 100,000 Fireflies! Hey - have you chaps been using my shower...

Mark C, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Spectrum Ripper Parts ix-xv" by MASONNA. Not very hummable, I tells ya...

Kodanshi, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes. yes i have.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

erm, I sing build me up buttercup in the shower too. that and anything I've just heard on the radio.

chris, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Recently I've been singing Cross the Border - Philly's Most Wanted, shower or no shower, on the bus, in the street, wherever, whenever.

K-reg, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I rarely sing in the shower, but if I do, it's probably because I'm trying to warm up my voice, so I go with Handel's Hallelujah chorus or some wanky Mozart trilling-scales thing.

Ugly Wife, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nowt wanky about Mozart!

Will, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hank Williams songs are big favorites in my shower too, Samantha.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think I might hum a note here and there, but I've never sung in the shower to my immediate recollection beyond a couple of words or two. I prefer to talk to myself in my head and wonder what's going on -- usually I'm meditating on work questions or the state of the world.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This morning: "Misdemeanor" by Foster Sylvers and "I Need a Lover" by John Mellencamp/Pat Benetar.

Arthur, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The one time I've *ever* sung in the bath, Nick took the piss. Hrumph.

Madchen, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sum 41 - Fat Lip (gave it a double 10 in the Focus Group)
Iron Maiden - Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter
Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer.

james, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will: "No Regrets - Scott Walker"

It's actually The Walker Brothers, but, flippin' 'eck, me too.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would sing if I had a shower. I'd do so many things if I had a shower. Won't somebody bring me a shower?

Nick, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I reca-a-a-a-a-al
Central Park in Fa-a-a-a-a-all
How you ToreYourDress
WhatAMess
IConfess."

DavidM, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

David M just became my new hero.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Um. I didn't think that singing the second soprano part to the "Laudamus Te" from Vivaldi's Gloria was particularly embarrassing until just now. Cringecringecringe...

Dan Perry, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Range Life - Pavement
Everybody Loves Me But You - Juliana Hatfield
I Get a Kick Out Of You - as sung by Lisa Ekdahl
Fuck and Run - Liz Phair

rainy, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I Second That Emotion" gets worked over pretty good, and when I'm feeling extra-foxy I'll bust out with a few verses of "Frenchette" off of the first David Johansen record.

dan, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i start the day with either "WILL you still love me tomorrow" by the shirelles or "call the doctor" by sleater-kinney or "he's a rebel" by the crystals or "i jus wanna fuck you" by bratmobile.

lucy lurex, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I mostly just make up stupid little showering songs I think. "La La La" But thanks to this, have just realized that of late I've been singing an awful lot of Ronan Keating songs.

No matter how hard I scrub, I still...feel....dirty.

Kim, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

today I sang: L'amour est un oiseau rebelle (Georges Bizet)
and 'The Loneliness of the Middle Distance Runner by Belle and Sebastian. I was especially happy to get up to the high notes, despite my cold! (Corruption of a HAP-py song, a HAPpy song will ride...)

Will, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not quite the same, but yesterday my housemate (and occasional chauffeur) claimed her right to sing Brian Adams if she is driving. She also sings Gabrielle in the bathtub! Where are the Taliban when you need one at home?

Laetitia, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This morning: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH! Post-shower: Father and Son (Boyzone version, please!). On way to work: Butterfly McQueen/I Hang Suspended by them Boo Radleys. They are still in my head now! HOW WILL THE DAY PROGRESS I wonder.

Sarah, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Corruption of a HAP-py song

I always thought it was 'soul'

Nick, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me too

Madchen, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, maybe it is! I still like singing it! :-) Isn't it a lovely song?

Will, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Och aye

Madchen, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will, you've just reminded me of a thread I need to start...

Dan Perry, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eighties cock rock, Rammstein, anything with a good potential for screeching the appalling lyrics, or altering them. That early in the day I take my kicks where I can get them. I am going to have to start singing destinies child though, since I want to learn how to do that bum dance. then sometimes, if not in the mood for foulness, a little bit of nina simone or old choir songs.

Menelaus Darcy, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh yeah, and the theme from shaft

Menelaus Darcy, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

St Louis Blues is also a fave, though today it was "I Need You" by the Kinks

Samantha, Friday, 16 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My heart has a mind of it's own... Connie Frances. Devoted to you .. The Everly Bros. Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Saturday, 17 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ohahu - The Sixths.

anthony, Saturday, 17 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tomorrow I shall be getting in the shower with Anthony and singing Kissing Things by The 6ths, since I just learned to play it on the guitar.

Ally C, Monday, 19 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

six months pass...
"tried to phone but they don't list 'em, So I asked for her number all the same/She said 'Step in my transporter, so I can teleport ya, all around my heavenly bo-o-o-dy'"

Suddenly, out loud, in a shared house. And I never ever sing [unacompanied]. Eep.

Graham, Sunday, 2 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just had a shower, I hope the house is empty as I've just been belting Kirsty MacColl's 'A New England' complete with all the oooo oooo wooooo bits in the middle.

Other than that the shower awards usually go to Debbie Harr

Anna, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning I belted out "Im your puppet" in its entirety, much to the dismay of my sleeping fiance. Complete with the mmmmmmm's and all. Plus I have such a melodious voice.

Chris, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I posted about the time I'd been in the house on my own for about 4 days without seeing anyone and I started singing "One More Time" by Daft Punk in the shower and got really into it and wrote the lyrics on the shower door with my finger in the steam. It was total mentalism but I was euphoric.

Recently I've been singing whatever I hear on the radio. At home I like to listen to music and dance in the shower if there's noone in the house.

Ronan, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"our shower is broken" - lonely jim and the wooden legs.

jel --, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing, generally. I have a very bad and quite loud voice, so I try to be a little considerate. I sing very loudly when driving a car, but that's because I have louder music playing, so I figure people will hear that rather than me. I don't have music while showering.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i like gale's taste in shower-songs. i don't sing in the shower anymore. i'm trying not to (mentally) disturb my flatmates. besides, my transparent attempts to grasp their attention do not impress them.

di, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
And they say:
She's so lucky,
She's a star,
But she cries cries cries,
With her lonely heart,
Thinking...
If there's nothing missing from my life,
Then why do these tears come at night?

Graham (graham), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i love you (esp "dis one's for da birds")

toby (tsg20), Monday, 3 March 2003 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

blue moon you saw me standing alone, without a dream of my own, etc.etc.

and occasionally a made up song.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 3 March 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

this morning it was the entire "some like it hot" score. I was late for work

j0e (j0e), Monday, 3 March 2003 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think it's ever the same thing twice, but this morning it was "For Those About to Rock" by Messrs. Young & Scott and the rest of the estimable brethren of AC/DC.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't: you get water in your mouth. I might drown.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 3 March 2003 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hard Times"
"Ghostriders in the Sky"
"Angel from Montgomery"
"Streets of Laredo"
"Mariah"
"El Paso"
"Levon"
"The Poet Game"
"Geraldine and Ruthie Mae"

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 3 March 2003 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning it was Talking Heads' "Wild Wild Life". Yesterday it was back and forth between TMBG's "Letterbox" and "Make a Little Birdhouse in Your Soul".

I actually do a great deal of writing and honing of my own vocal-parts (for my band or my own retarded crap) in the shower; I've prob'ly written all my best stuff in either the shower, the car, or the coffee shop.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 3 March 2003 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

It's usually to early to sing, and my girlfriend is still asleep.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Monday, 3 March 2003 21:44 (twenty-three years ago)

lately its been "A Change is Gonna Come".

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 3 March 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I beatbox in the shower, I rarely sing but when I do it's usually something ridiculous I made up.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 3 March 2003 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

shower faves: helium, mary timony, sleater-kinney (esp dig me out and all hands), le tigre, the renderers.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

It's all about the resonance of the shower. I usually end up singing a song that has pitches that resonant the most.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometimes I sing Nelly's "It's getting hot in here ", but in a German accent. (ist gettin hoot enh eer)

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to fuck you like an animal.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

A Nairn, why didn't you call Tiga up and offer your services for his cover?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

'Sound of Silence' - maybe not in the shower because I'm not quite awake by then, but all the rest of the time. Driving, thinking, playing, cleaning.

I do think 'I want to fuck you like an animal' rather a lot though. But then, I used to think that before the NIN song anyway.

toraneko (toraneko), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing much. I think I've sung in the shower as such maybe five or so times in as many years. I'm usually just thinking about things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I am known to sing No Doubt's "Don't Speak" as re-interpreted by Julio Iglesias.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 01:55 (twenty-three years ago)

This sounds like an improvement on either side.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning I was singing Baby You're A Rich Man. I haven't heard it for ages so I don't know why it just popped into my head. I haven't come into any money lately, either. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 08:19 (twenty-three years ago)

i didn't think i did but once i ws sharing a hotel room with some friends and when i came out of the bathroom after a shower, hair in towel etc. they were pointing and laughing hysterically saying "that was a joke right?" "what?""that singing!". i am an unconscious shower singer!

minna (minna), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

oh the question i see is 'what' do you sing in the shower, not just 'do you'. what was i singing? can't remember.

minna (minna), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i didn't think i did but once i ws sharing a hotel room with some friends

Sounds good!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 10:59 (twenty-three years ago)

:-0

minna (minna), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing much. I think I've sung in the shower as such maybe five or so times in as many years. I'm usually just thinking about things.

You mean dirty things don'tcha? Huh? Huh?

*nudge nudge wink wink*

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to sing alot of the Playgroup album stuff in the shower, more recently I just listen to music in the shower and dance or draw pictures on the glass.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning I broke into an impromptu "I Wanna Sex You Up", my tattoo's were looking hot.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

This morning it was 'Indian Giver' by the 1910 Fruitgum Co. I killed on the choruses.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

shower faves: helium, mary timony, sleater-kinney (esp dig me out and all hands), le tigre, the renderers.
-- di smith

Whaaaa??? I am di???

I usually sing along with whatever I'm listening to, sing my own songs, or sing really silly songs like Madonna 80s stuff or even Whitney - "OH! I wanna dance with somebody. I wanna feel the HEAT with somebody! Oh! I wanna dance with somebody... with somebody who loves me! Somebody... OOH! Somebody...OOH!!"

Sarah Hotnights (coco), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron Grossman sings really classy shit in the shower I think I want to shower with him!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I sang "So Fresh, So Clean" this morning. That song does more for one's self-confidence than any drug ever could.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby round round round round."

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

'Do you BELIevE in life after love???"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean dirty things don'tcha? Huh? Huh?

Lord, man. No, I was actually thinking about how much fun it would be to strangle you, there. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

four years pass...

'Shady Lane' and 'Stereo' and 'Conduit for Sale' - Pavement

'Tattoo' and 'Mary Ann with the Shaky Hand' and 'Our Love Was' - The Who

'Why Don't We Do It In The Road' and 'She Came In Through The Bathroom Window' - The Beatles

'Forgotten In Space' - Voivod

'She's Lost Control' - Joy Division

... and I rarely deviate ... wife hates it.

BlackIronPrison, Friday, 1 June 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

This is funny, I've probably never sung anything in the shower...? I'm not sure why it became such a "thing", really -- is it the illusion of privacy? The fact that the shower sound masks yr vocal weaknesses & insecurities?

Laurel, Friday, 1 June 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

Most commonly I sing made-up lyrics to familiar tunes - often rather repetitive lyrics to snatches of classical music. They reflect whatever jumbly stuff is in my head at 6am.

Aimless, Saturday, 2 June 2007 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

OK singing "conduit for sale" in the shower is kind of awesomely great =)

Trayce, Saturday, 2 June 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

I dont sing in the shower because the acoustics of the room amplify everything so much it all goes out the window and every flat can hear every other flat showering/talking in their bathrooms, its embarrasing.

Maybe I'll start singing screamy skinny puppy songs in the shower in that case, hm.

Trayce, Saturday, 2 June 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

country songs
