Fast Food Chicken Emporia Where the Owners Have Deliberately Made the Name As Close to Kentucy Fried Chicken As They Can Without Being Sued - C/D?

... London's full of them I've noticed, are they meant to confuse unsuspecting drunks staggering home of a Friday night? Dixy Fried Chicken, Tennessee Fried Chicken, Kansas Fried Chicken (wha? what does that taste like?) but my all time favourite is KENNEDY FRIED CHICKEN. Why don't they just call it JFKFC and be done with it?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenfunky Fried Chicken?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken C Fried Chicken

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a band called JFKFC.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken C Fried Chicken?

aargh beat me to it

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

There was a McDoner up near Seven Sisters a few years back. Its logo was as close to the golden arches as it could possibly get away with as well. I think McDonalds slapped them down in the end.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

There's already a kebab shop in Kentish Town called Kentish Delight so it's but a short step to a chicken joint called Kentish Fried Chicken

piscesboy, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost went to Tennessee Fried Chicken when we got lost in Camden.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Local Chain Restaurants - S/D

Wow, and I thought Kennedy Fried Chicken was just some crappy name thought up by a Turkish guy in London to sell diseased chicken to drunks

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

In Chicago, there used to be a chain called "Gold Coin" (maybe there are still a few.) When they sold some of the locations off, new diners took their place:
old Coin
Gold Co.
Gold Medal

I never did see "Cold Goin" ..

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

theres a halal fast food shop in Leicester called 'McIndians'

zappi (joni), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and their slogan is 'you've tried the cowboys, now try the indians'

zappi (joni), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I like that, I like that

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Kennsey Gried Chicken
New York Fried Chicken
Chicago Fried Chicken
Southern Fried Chicken

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the place in Old Street that has a sign that looks like "Fuck Off" from a distance?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer the cutesy ones like Hen Cottage and Chicken Cottage.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, they have that problem here in Toronto, but with a coffee chain called Coffee Time. There are these knockoffs all around the city that use the same font and same ugly off-purple and yellow colour scheme, time names like Any Time Coffee (with "any" in a font so small you'll never see it until you're nosed up to the sign), Coffee Shack and Coffee Coffee. Why any of the knock-offs would want to be associated with Coffee Time, I don't know, because there's two things wrong with the name: it's not coffee, and I don't have time for it.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Bertie Rooster remains my favourite.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I almost went to Tennessee Fried Chicken when we got lost in Camden.
-- TOMBOT (tombo...), September 21st, 2004 2:07 PM. (later)

That one's actually "Tennesseeland Fried Chicken" (with "land" in tiny writing - presumably they got sued by "Tennessee Fried Chicken" on Seven Sisters Road!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

http://badgas.co.uk/chicken/

it's scary how many of those i've been to.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that's right! I found it intriguing, it made me think of Seeland records.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Zappi - I think McIndians must be a chain because I'm certain I walked past a McIndians in Edinburgh last week... Though i may have imagined it...

Craig Gilchrist, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

this one is awesome

http://badgas.co.uk/chicken/fckf.jpg

(almost JFKFC!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a Finger Lickin' Chicken in Bristol. Blatant theft of advertising slogan > Clever puns.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, and in St Andrews there's a place called "KFB". But it stands for "Kinness Fry Bar".

Craig Gilchrist, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

wow

Free the Bee (ex machina), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

dadaismus and all tuffers ILXr's Chicago Land Chicken is infinately superior to Dixys. Best one I ever saw was either Kennedy or the woderfully honest Local Fried Chicken. FCKF old st right?

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That picture's the Fuck Off one in Old Street!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

there's a JKFC on Kilburn High Road, that's my fave blatant rip off as the J isn't even in the same font as the KFC part! Dunno what it's supposed to stand for, if anything.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah local fried chicken on archway/holloway road!

"golden fried chicken" on caledonian road is my favourite because it's storefront uses the Old Skool KFC decor! (with the little roof and old style font!)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

-it's +its

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Manchesters finest: Hentucky Fried Chicken.

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The Chicken Cottage signage features a pair of chickens, blue and red, shown in profile. Blue's on top and he looks like he's bumming Red, who's smaller. Chicken cottage indeed!

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

this one wins

Red bird is top dawg. My mistake.

Genius (xpost)

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a Kantacky Fried Chicken on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. I think they actually tried to get away with "Kentucky Fried Chicken" at first, because the "A"s are pasted on.

Nemo (JND), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

But I'm suspicious that photo's been photoshopped

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

the cottaging one? it's genuine!

http://badgas.co.uk/chicken/cottage.jpg

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

...Bonus! The blue chicken is Halal. However, being bummed is most decidedly Haraam. Conundrum...

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Kantouri Fried Chicken update. Anyone feel like taking a risk and checking out this place?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

See Indie Chicken regular column over at Freakytrigger:

Aw thanks Pete. Yes people, I want to see your reviews of your local chicken establishments! Particularly so if they're actually called 'Local Chicken' as with above-mentioned Holloway Rd jobbie.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean "jobbie" in the Scottish sense?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

even though i don't eat chicken, i still vote for the original, because of this:

http://www.wlra.us/wl/wlchicken.jpg

its eye and beak move! it's great!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

is that michael moore in that pic?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, then he went in, started eating, and didn't stop until 1989.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I can top all of this.
There used to be a place 2 blocks away from the Franklin Hills Mall in Philadelphia that was called Cluck-U-Chicken.
Then they went out of business and it became some sort of middle eastern food place, then after 9/11 it became an empty shell.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

manchester wins!

'mctucky's'
(off canal street)

Seconded - my favorite of all time.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

Since this has been linked to off another thread, this is as good a place as any to report the recent appearance on Duke Street in Glasgow of a takeaway called Wagapapa (with exactly the same font and signage)

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe got this link from another thread, but relevant here: the man who designs all the signs.
