This the Thread Where I Say Pt 19: Joey, I'm Not Angry Anymore

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Ta-daaa!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm cherries.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

OK, I'm going to post to a TITTWIS thread, just so I can tell my grandkids that I did so.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I know your grandkids. They're not impressed.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Wow. I hope there is a reeeaallly long list of things I tell my grandkids before 'I posted on some TITTWIS threads once' :)

Hey we hit 20! The thread is no longer a troubled teen. Should it be saving for its retirement already you think?

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago)

It's always a bit embarassing when it's your own family. My grandkids friends think I'm cool, even if they think that their granddad is an old fool.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Anyways, we were talking about flying. I can't decide if I'm actually scared of flying, or if I just hate it: being stuck in a really small space with bad air for hours and hours, the turbulence, the sick feeling in my stomach, being in a tiny seat right next to some stranger, etc. etc.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago)

the recycled air is what bugs me the most

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:33 (twenty years ago)

flying scares me witless.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

You can smell the germs

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I hate the waiting before a flight, the waiting after a flight, the flying home from a wonderful holiday, especially if you're leaving your beloved behind, the way it exhausts you beyond reason, the fact that you might experience fiery metal death, the lack of legroom, the way drinking even a little bit of coffee or booze makes you feel ill, and the terror of being late/forgetting your ticket/passport/luggage.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:35 (twenty years ago)

i've started taking xanax and ambien on long flights to "relax"/knock myself out, and now i know why celebrities are always getting arrested for acting like lunatics at airports. you do odd things when you're woken up from a pill-induced unconsciousness.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:36 (twenty years ago)

The most frightening thing is waiting for your suitcase at the baggage claim and waiting and waiting and waiting ... everyone else's bag seems to be coming out ... and getting worried that your bag is lost and isn't going to show up. 1000 X more stressful than flying itself.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:37 (twenty years ago)

recycled air and the constant noise and the way time seems to move like cold molasses.... Still better than the bus or a tramp steamer for the long trips.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

It's even crappier when you're bag DOESN'T appear and you have to find staff to complain to and fill in forms and get angry that you'll never see your camera again. Fucking Aeroflot baggage handler thieving cunts.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:41 (twenty years ago)

If we end up flying to Europe next year I might have to look into the xanax thing. Fortunately I have a strong stomach and have never thrown up on the plane, but I came close last time we flew to France. I drank some red wine and ate some cheese, which combined to make a very oddly bitter and disgusting combination in my mouth, and then we went through a straight half-hour of turbulence. That sucked.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Oddly enough, in my years of flying to and from the US to and from India, Yugoslavia, France, Hong Kong, etc., I have never had an experience with lost luggage. Just lucky I guess.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I think Tramp steamer might be fun. Sometime before I die I want to sail across the Atlantic, but not on a really expensive QEII cruise.
I hate the germy airplane air, but I like airports, esp. Amsterdam. It's like a mall I can't afford but can try on tons of expensive makeup. And I like to guess what countries people are from by their accents/languages spoken. I actually woke up on a plane last year with my head on the shoulder of the Australian guy next to me, it was a bit embarrasing.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could take the train everywhere. They should run the bullet train under all the oceans.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 15:49 (twenty years ago)

One of the things I dislike about flying is the way my tongue feels spongy in my mouth and I lose most of my sense of taste. Does anyone else get that?

Yay Eurostar.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, in another 1000 posts this thread will be old enough to drink. Watch out, then!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:19 (twenty years ago)

call me when you need the xanax, im on it.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:32 (twenty years ago)

This thread's been legal to drink in Canada for a while.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

im going apple picking this weekend and then the bingo is going to fire out a pie.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:40 (twenty years ago)

That means several things at once, doesn't it?

I am taking advantage of a quiet moment at work today. Tonight, however, are the Pixies in San Diego. So I am quite happy for today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

That means several things at once, as well, for those of us unsure of how close you are to San Diego.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Close enough to be able to go to the show right after work, hurrah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:52 (twenty years ago)

THat's what I thought, but it would be funny if you were quite happy that the Pixies were far away because you find their foot odour quite terrible.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Perv.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:54 (twenty years ago)

There is certainly nothing funny about foot odour.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:59 (twenty years ago)

I need better clothes. I dress like a hobo.

Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:02 (twenty years ago)

I dress like a hobo on purpose.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:03 (twenty years ago)

i get the worse ear infections from flying. the WORSE. i guess i flew once when i wasnt suppsoed top and the allergist told me my brain could of exploded

kephm, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Aw, Mandee, I'm sure you look great.
I had to wear hose today because I have several scarred insect bites on my leg and wanted to wear a skirt to work. I'm so afraid people notice these things.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Sarah: Apparently the Queen is going to visit Sask in May. Maybe she knows something! Consider visiting then...

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:21 (twenty years ago)

If I'm still here, I'll probably invite her over for tea.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:28 (twenty years ago)

And then forget to buy sugar! Ha ha ha. Oh the laugh's we'll have!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Shall we wager on whether Huck is still there?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:36 (twenty years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago)

"Huck has been plucked, since I last saw him" sez the queen.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Huck, You're lookin' pretty good in that pic, for a guy who's about to die!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:40 (twenty years ago)

The part of Huck will be played by Tilda Swinton, I think.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Good choice! I'm reading Orlando now and I will forever picture him looking just like her character.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:44 (twenty years ago)

Lovely.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 18:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm going apple picking this weekend too! Pie and candy apples!!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:21 (twenty years ago)

I have the theme from Bonanza stuck in my head. Bup-buppa-bup, bup-ba-buppa-bup, naaaaaa-naa, naaa-na-na-naaaa!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

the best way to get rid of it is to think of the melody of 'tom's diner'

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago)

I believe I am going apple picking this weekend as well! Apple crisp time!
Orlando is such a great movie, I really need to watch it again.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Aww thanx for the thought S! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Rambocop!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

everybody: listen to elmer bernstein's to kill a mockingbird musical score next time you're insomniac. it's guaranteed to put you to sleep with lovely dreams ( as it did last night for me) and keep you out for 6-8 hours.

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

So the toner in the office ran out on Sunday. And they called me at home.
"You guys realize that I'm a part-time employee who receives absolutely no benefits, holiday, or dignity?"
"Uh, yes."
"Then you have absolutely no right to call me at home."

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:07 (twenty years ago)

My god. That is soooo lame, Huck!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Did you actually say that, Huck?

As soon as I read "Can one eat too many pretzels?" I didn't have to scroll down, I knew someone from our new brave hemisphere had woken up.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Of course I didn't actually say that. I suck.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago)

My ex used to do that all the time (and still does, we're still friends) -- he'd tell a story and then all of a sudden start making up the clever things he said, and it was my job to say when fact had become fiction. And of course I was generally right about it, though that was more his fault than mine.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Very bizarre, Huck.

Regarding clothes -- as I see it, there are formal clothes and not so formal, rather than adult and adolescent. This allows me to keep my sanity (having to 'dress up' to go to work = an evil beyond measure).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I just let the machine get it, and ignored their pleas. Because I knew that if I got on the phone and tried to walk these trained observers through changing toner cartridges, I'd get frustrated and wind up coming down to do it myself.
But I thought that the conversation that happened in my head would be more entertaining than: so I stood there, in my bathrobe, hungover and hurtin', simmering with inarticulate anger at the intrusion into my otherwise pristine Sunday morning.
Of course they don't know that I'm part-time, as I'm only part-time by one hour a week. And also because none of them, y'know, talk to me or anything.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm feeling kind of lonely this morning. I think maybe it's because it's so cold, or maybe because I don't have any new emails today.

The DJ on the LITE radio station at work is going on and on about how much she hates Halloween because it's bad for her diet. I want to punch her.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Did I mention that there's such a thing as Diet Ketchup? Like, dude, maybe it's not the ketchup, but the BACON CHEESE AnD FRIES!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Which is to say, LITE FM DJs are fucking not-seeing-the-big-picture and stupid.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:18 (twenty years ago)

She's just that much more annoying because she has this super-chipper radio voice. It sounds like she's smiling from ear to ear as she rants about hating Halloween. And she sounds like she's talking directly to me and wants me to agree with her. And if I don't, she'll kill me.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:23 (twenty years ago)

I've been off work since last Thursday (was sick Th & Fri and had yesterday off - I'm still sick, but I'm here) and now that I'm back, I have a profound feeling of 'meh'.

Do you ever wonder if people would forget about you entirely if you just stopped showing up somewhere?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:27 (twenty years ago)

That's why it's important to be the only one who knows where the toner is. They need me, they really need me!
THe rotten fuckers.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Oh I don't mean like that - I can't spend five minutes out of the office without someone calling me desperately for something (my boss called me EVERY DAY when I was on maternity leave) - I dunno, it's something ... more.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Forget it.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I think I just upset a vendor. I was requesting something for the THIRD Time since early July. I pointed it out - I don't think I was being mean or anything - but after that she just sounded really sad and weird.

I hear you, luna.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I was sorta being sarcastic, but not in a mean way, more in a self-deprecating way. I think I know exactly how you feel. I mean, the only time I'm noticed at all around here is when the toner needs changing or somebody needs paperclips.

The intern's car got broken into last night, and one of my more obnoxious colleagues (I almost wrote room-mates) asked where it was.
"But that's a good neighbourhood!"

So I, in one of my rare moments of, y'know, talking to people at work, explained the delicate economics of crime.
"Why would anyone break into a car in a bad neighbourhood?"

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago)

This place is systematically trying to make me crack. And the person I need to yell at isn't here today. HOW FITTING.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Call them at home.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:50 (twenty years ago)

And for the record, the person who could forget about someone like Luna is half a person at best. (And/or deaf and blind.)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:51 (twenty years ago)

no, I know, Huck. I've just had a shitty week or so, am getting more bad news than I know what to do with, and I'm just in a weird series of moods.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:53 (twenty years ago)

I LOVE MY JOB.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Liar.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:58 (twenty years ago)

;)

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Please send autumn.

K thx bye.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh my goodness I am actually getting a lot of work done today!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:15 (twenty years ago)

OH my goodness! Oh my goodness!

luna, It's autumn here. I'll try to send you some telepathically. *straining* Got it?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I'll take some pics and post them for you or email them to you, hows that?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:21 (twenty years ago)

I'm feeling a lassitude at my job but that's natural three weeks into the quarter. Anyone need some of the laziness? I shall ship it to you in a box.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago)

That'll work.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I am having weird cycles of productivity at work. Early morning, then just before lunch, then the last two hours of the day are when I get 90% of things done. I can't explain it - maybe it's something to do with my digestion?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had a camera (digi would be best) so that I could take photos in and around my new place to show you all. It's really wonderful and gets a ton of sun (the place I was in when Casuistry was here got N-O-N-E). And the back courtyard/fire escape is gorgeous in the afternoon, and my apt. is the same height as the treetops in the neighbourhood (though I directly face a giant hospital parking lot) and the leaves are almost all gone but they're as brilliant as I've ever seen them. Last night, at my parents, I sat in the backyard staring at the insanely red Mountain Ash tree. When I came in my mom showed my the painting she'd done of it the day before.

I'm on the verge of getting a bunch of stuff done.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Fuck me, the cleaner here is like a Potteresque Dementor in the way every aspect of her manner sucks the life out of everything. Each evening at 6 this *presence* enters our ofice and makes it that little bit more desperate.

Aargh- she's taking away my spoons!!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:46 (twenty years ago)

http://www.wascanalake.com/cam1.cfm

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:47 (twenty years ago)

I have those weird cycles, Mark. Basically, my day is like so:
I get to work a tiny bit early, start checking email/ILX
Start to do actual work about a half hour later// work like crazy to get shit off my desk
Settle in for a long day of unproductivity

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:48 (twenty years ago)

i get here at 6am and don't do any work until 9.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Someone in my office just said (on the phone), "You have to understand, I'm a woman of zest."

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Does she like purple and chocolate? Or is she zestfully clean?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

I think it's part of her fundraising pitch!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

"you have to understand I am a man of giant cock."

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Those wedged-out buildings are still totally dopey. But I'm glad your new place has sunlight. Things are moving on up for the ol' Huckasaurus!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Try to understand, I'm a magic man.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

I get sunlight in the East and West!
It actually sucks for when I want to do work in the afternoon, because my office is flooded by sun. I need curtains, I guess.

Zest!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 16:56 (twenty years ago)

I hereby nominate "You have to understand, I'm a woman of zest." for TITWIS Pt. 21

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:03 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, I think of zest, I think of salad dressing. Maybe she meant she's not only tangy, but new and improved.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:10 (twenty years ago)

This is the Thread Where I Say Pt. 21: You Have to Understand, I'm a Woman of Zest
