RSS Feeds and Related

This thread taught me a bit about RSS feeds and now I can't imagine browsing any other way. So much more information in a much smaller space. Tonight at ten's original descrip:

I think the consensus is "really simple syndication," though there are opther theories. basically, it's a little XML feed that can be read by certain readers that plug into your browser, and allow you to search headlines and snippets of stories and blog entries very quickly without having to load whole pages. If you use Firefox at all, try Sage:

http://sage.mozdev.org/

Opens a sidebar with your RSS feed bookmarks at the top, the headlines of your most recently selected RSS feed at the bottom, and the content of your most recent RSS feeds in the main window. You'll see what I mean. And the new version of Sage comes with the BBC News feed as one of its defaults, so you'll immediately see why I like that so much. No big news webpage, just the facts, ma'am.

SO much more can be done with this technology than already has. The only reason all news pages aren't exclusively RSS feeds is because they need to direct you to their ads. And the only reason all blogs aren't RSS feeds is because they need to direct you to their coolness.

Now please discuss, tell us which feeds are in your list, point out new & exciting feeds, etc.

Bloglines is my favourite RSS reader, oodles of functionality.

I can pick up my email, keep an eye on ebay auctions, watch yahoo groups and track google news alerts as well as taking feeds from blogs and other newspapers/magazines.

It's completely changed the way I use the web.

ILX/ILM is obviously my favourite feed.

This is a bit addictive.

My favourite reader is newsfire but it's a bit buggy.

I'm another Bloglines.com user. I love Opera as a browser but I don't find its RSS features very useful. Bloglines has a list of their most popular feeds which is sometimes useful for finding new ones. Months ago I found a list of feeds directly from the Associated Press. Unfortunately the bookmark doesn't seem to work anymore.

I wish the Canadian Press had RSS feeds......

I've been using Sharpreader for about 8 months and have been too lazy to upgrade or explore others. I think I have about 14 feeds, mostly blogs. It's nice, no more surfing.

I've got about 300 feeds loaded up in NetNewsWire. For the Flickr photo pools I use the RSS in Safari.

Here's an opml file of all the music blogs I follow which you should be able to import into your news readers.

It's probably missing a bunch of really good new ones, so post them here and I'll update it, if anyone's interested.

Like I still really prefer looking at the layout/images/design of the 12-or-so sites I visit daily (Gawker, Awl, Daily Swarm, various Village Voice blogs) then like a 100 imageless, personality-less linkies. And if I miss a day, they just seem to pile up...
