It's a damned lie pushed by the "research" giants who also happen to be the agra-fruit giants. Blame it on ADM. Supermarket to the world indeed. More like fruit-pusher to the world.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ON that note, why is fresh food good for you at all? It seems so full of microorganisms and dirt. Twinkie seem healthier.

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey everyone ! I just discoverd something quite good! Sugar free apple sauce on waffles just tastes fine! hooray!

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I, however, aim for more than just *fine*.

Sean, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh try it sean! Try it ytri it! you'll see!

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sperm specifically use fructose (fruit sugar) as their energy source; a high level of fructose in the semen is an indication of virility. However, sucrose (table sugar) is immediately converted to fructose when it is metabolized. Both types of sugar will be stored as fat if they are not needed. It's all explained in this chart. So there's really no difference. But fruits contain other things such as antioxidants that will keep you from getting wrinkles and cancer and keep your DNA from becoming damaged. Microorganisms and dirt are good for the immune system.

Kris, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Refined sugar = better educated sugar.

DG, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now, boys... remember.. don't pepper your sperm with aspartame. It gives those little fellers a headache.

Brian MacDonald, Thursday, 15 November 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

great season for peaches fyi

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 9 August 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

had a peach this morn!

ice cr?m, Sunday, 9 August 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

i've been getting a bucket of peaches every week and eating them all. not sure if it's a 1/4 peck or 1/2 peck but i counted last week and there were 9 peaches. mangos have been on sale for like 2 months so i eat like 5 of those every week. and i try to eat a banana every day but sometimes i don't. so like 5 bananas a week. i also eat 1 cantaloupe per week and this week i got a small watermelon and a bag of grapes. i rarely drink juice though.

permanent response lopp (harbl), Sunday, 9 August 2009 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

the peaches thing has been ongoing for like 2 months but just now they're perfect

8 apricots yesterday and a bunch of red raspberries and blackberries. And some rainier cherries. It's blackberry season here - I'm going picking next weekend.

i've been eating peaches, pluots, bananas, cherries, sour cherries, strawberries, raspberries, miracle fruit, fresh figs, mangoes like a motherfucker

heavin' flho (s1ocki), Sunday, 9 August 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

miracle fruit

What are these like, fresh? I've only had the dried powdered tablets (then of course drank straight lime juice)

I ate too many fresh figs earlier in the week. But they were so good.

handmaid of the demon bean (Jaq), Sunday, 9 August 2009 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

fresh or frozen they're way better

heavin' flho (s1ocki), Sunday, 9 August 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

The dried ones aren't much of anything - some sourness, but no distinct flavor.

handmaid of the demon bean (Jaq), Sunday, 9 August 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i have had those two. sometimes they can work well. but the flavour is a bit flatter imo

heavin' flho (s1ocki), Sunday, 9 August 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

It was a sad week when cherries stopped appearing in our farm box. So good and made the most awesome cherry brandy ice cream with them.

Has anyone tried those white cherries? They keep tempting me but I always stick with the reliable blood-red cherries in end.

I can't find a peach that doesn't look misshapen. I've been eating cantaloupe (it finally tastes good to me, not just tasteless and full of water), watermelon, mango, grapes, cherries, blueberries, bananas, and avacado (I think that's a fruit, right?).

Virginia Plain, Sunday, 9 August 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't seen white cherries, but the rainiers are yellow with a pink blush and so so so sweet and good.

handmaid of the demon bean (Jaq), Sunday, 9 August 2009 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

I think that's them--I'll have to try them. Maybe I'll mix the two together.

Virginia Plain, Sunday, 9 August 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

I am normally very anti-goatee but that cat's white goatee is exceptionally awesome.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 10 August 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

Jenny - Cause as far as vegetables go carrots have a lot of sugar, right? I mean that's true but THEY ARE FREAKING CARROTS!! There are a lot worse snacks to be had. Ugh. Ppl be a little crazy sometimes.

ENBB, Monday, 10 August 2009 14:12 (sixteen years ago)

oops not jenny - I meant La Lechera - sry!

ENBB, Monday, 10 August 2009 14:12 (sixteen years ago)

it's ok my name isn't jenny, but that was my point exactly. (it's amanda)

my general attitude is that if it grows and is a fruit, vegetable, bean or nut, it is good for me. if it is processed and/or produced by humans, it's slightly less good for me. (cheese, pasta) if it is cheez its, it is probably bad for me but i sometimes eat it anyway. that is my diet.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

u stole my diet!!!

permanent response lopp (harbl), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)

no offence meant to anyone here but seeing carbohydrates shortened to "carbs" is a real irrational irritation of mine. maybe it's cuz i come into conversational contact with the food group so rarely that i don't feel the need to abbreviate it with an affectionate pet name.

regardless: fruit = good 4 u

N1ck (Upt0eleven), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

what about carbz? that any better? ;-)

ENBB, Monday, 10 August 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

don't worry -- there are lots of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and cheez its on the planet -- i will share with u

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)

i also eat meat and fish, but not much so there is plenty for the rest of you

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

"carbz" i like. more zzzzz might be even better, let's see: carbzzzzzzz

yes, that is better as it helpfully also conveys what a dull thing they are to count. i sit next to the fruit basket at work and am more often than not a peachy/plumy/nectariney slurpy juice mess. flat peaches are weird tho; i do not trust them.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 10 August 2009 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not stressing so much, just trying to find the ultimate diet for sustained energy levels, basic well-being and longevity (okay, I'm stressing a little). I want to avoid the sugar spike-and-crash cycle. However, fruit only seems to enhance my mood (and I've never really noticed a crash) so I don't think I will change my fruit-eating patterns, except to increase them.

Slocks, coeliac isnt about carbs, it's specifically about gluten! You can get carbs from other starches that dont hurt coeliacs (rice, etc)

Spy in the Cab Sav (Trayce), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 05:08 (sixteen years ago)

The abbreviation for foods w/gluten that we memorize in nursing school is "BROW" - barley, rye, oats, and wheat. Those are what people w/ celiac can't have. (Which would suck, I think, but fruit should be free of all of those things.)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 05:21 (sixteen years ago)

they also can't have spelt!
make it BROWS

tehresa, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 05:29 (sixteen years ago)

though technically spelt is a form of wheat, but i think that's not 100% common knowledge.

four weeks pass...

It's really weird, how you don't notice how BAD refined sugar makes you feel (all fuzzy headed and weird and a bit GRRRR) until you stop eating it for a while.

You don't really notice its effects when you're consuming it regularly. But stop eating it for a bit, then have a tiny bit (two chocolate ginger truffles - tiny tiny tiny) and suddenly it's like you're on drugs. WTF?

is dried fruit particularly bad for you? I've switched to fruit and nuts instead of other things for when i get peckish, but i'm concerned about the sugar.

Evil Eau (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 14:17 (fifteen years ago)
