this is the thread where dog latin and stevem try and find something we both like

Stevem and I seem to know a lot of the same stuff but argue about whether it's good or not. Daft Punk's Homework, LFO, Spaced - I dunno, I come across as the hater. Maybe there's something we both like? Or perhaps maybe there's something I like but Stevem doesn't like?

We can do it in a football card trading way but instead of "Got, Got, Got, Haven't Got" it can be like: "Like, Like, Like, Don't Like".

Stevem do you like:

Tom Waits
Gabba
Pubs
Cleaning out the inside of your computer mouse when you're bored at work
Ken C
Black Metal
Etymology

Answer these and then give me your list.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I like cleaning out the insides of mice! And Ken, and etymology. Probably gabba more than, y'know, the pinefox, but I prefer techno really.

DL, do you like any of:

Catatonia
Blandly nice sweaters
Go
Danish people
The idea of large armies of ninjas fighting with varied weapons at speeds invisible to the naked eye
Chaucer?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

DL do you like the band Underworld?

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Being John M, Lib Dems and Jelly Babies for me.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i like old skool hardcore, the others not so much with the exception of Lukey who i don't really know

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Careless whisper
Pacing needlessly around the room

I like steve buscemi! Um, in Ghost World anyway.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dog latin, do you like dodgy indie dance records?
The third single I ever bought was "Mother Universe" by the Soup Dragons.

Do you wear silver jackets and say things like "PREPARE TO DIE!"?
No. I say "DEATH TO FALSE METAL".

How many Altern 8 songs can you name?
Activ8, Armageddon, errr... Extermin8 (or was that Snap? Can't Remember). God, I know there are more.

Do you throw what I (exclusively?) call "hand shapes"?
Ask Gravel or MarkH or any other ILxors who have had the misfortune of meeting me. If I do then I don't do them intentionally.

What is your favourite suburban shopping mall?
Hatfield Galleria

How many cassingles have you bought from an Our Price (RIP) in one go?
I used to buy dozens of 25p cassingles from David's Music in Letchworth with my pocket money when I was 13. My first album in teh evah was Run DMC's "Tougher Than Leather" which I got out the 50p bin at Our Price.

As a child, did you dream of owning a Volkswagen Golf convertible?
I have a distrust of cars in general.

Catatonia
Katatonia, but not Catatonia.

Blandly nice sweaters
I like colourful ones.

Go
Don't know

Danish people
I'm sure they're lovely

The idea of large armies of ninjas fighting with varied weapons at speeds invisible to the naked eye
I want to write the ultimate action movie in which a giant flying pirate ship that fires flaming cannonballs and is piloted by robotic ninjas who shoot spaghetti out their eyes go round raising trouble.

Chaucer?
NO.

DL do you like the band Underworld?
They're okay I guess.

And would you like to join them?
Only if they were contractually obliged to go Gabba.

Samurai Jack
From what I've seen, I quite like it.

Tinned tuna
Yes

Old skool hardcore
Yes

Watercolour challenge (R.I.P.)
Sorry, my tweeness doesn't quite stretch far enough.

Being John Malcovich
Yes.

Lukey
Yeppers!

The Liberal Democrats
Yes.

would dog latin also forget to bring me jelly babies?
I probably would because I'm pretty forgetful. Sorry Lauren.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The nominations thing in fifteen to one always seemed to make it a bit unfair. It left me kinda cold.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Careless whisper
Pacing needlessly around the room
Nowell
Fifteen to one (R.I.P.)
Steve Buscemi
Alan Moore
Scooter

All of these things are okay but have their drawbacks.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What are the drawbacks of Scooter, DL?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they FALSE METAL?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not false, they're just - oh I dunno... Yeh, they rock.

Tom Waits - not really, don't dislike tho
Gabba - only in a jokey way, sometimes
Pubs - love some, hate others
Cleaning out the inside of your computer mouse when you're bored at work - no, luckily i have an optical mouse which is a lot easier
Ken C - yes, ken is a cheeky mang who's always up for japes
Black Metal - as a material yes, as music see gabba
Etymology - i forget what this is, i'm not very clever

teh pow! (blueski), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Tinned tuna - hell yes, it's stevem-friendly

teh pow! (blueski), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oooh, can I play? Who else likes;

Red wine
Playing five-a-side
Taking fotos
Embrace
Big sideburns
Black pepper on everything

Well???

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dog Latin is either 24 or 18, I can never remember.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

you thought dog latin was younger, surely.

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Red wine - Prefer white
Playing five-a-side - No, I'm shit at sports
Taking fotos - Yes, don't do it enough
Embrace - Hell no
Big sideburns - Wish I could grow some
Black pepper on everything - Yes yes yes

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

etymology is good

red wine = only good ones
Playing five-a-side = yes, assuming you mean football
Taking fotos = yes, despite being pwned a lot
Embrace = no
Big sideburns = no, i had them chopped yesterday
Black pepper on everything = yes, except pudding

teh pow! (blueski), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Red wine - Oh yes please, especially half-price £8 bottles like Sainsburys seem to have an aisle for.
Playing five-a-side - I love it! Can I join someone's team?
Taking fotos - Yes though not with huge passion. There's that photo of my thighs around somewhere on ILE.
Embrace - Utter shit.
Big sideburns - I don't like them too big. Bottom of the ear and not too bushy.
Black pepper on everything - seriously growing on me, after 28 years of wonderingn what the point of black pepper was.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The point of black pepper is the wondrous smell it makes as you grind it.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

You could say that about so many things.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought we were writing things we liked?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The Krypton Factor - yes, a staple part of my youth. Oddly, I liked the assault courses the best.
France - hmm, bits, mainly those with sea or mountains next to them. I don't like Paris.
The Style Council - nuh-huh. They suck.
Cider - it's really pretty horrible, isn't it? I like US-style "cider" which is just cloudy apple juice which you heat up.
Big earrings - no, I don't have a middle-class fetish for young girls wearing street fashion.
Garth Crooks - Nope.
The sound of steel drums - yes, I like it quite a lot.
Pork scratchings - only the first few, afterwards I feel sick and full of guilt and self-loathing.
Liverpool - never been.
Golf - yes, I do enjoy a round. I once carded 99!
Crazy golf - not since I was wee.
Weathervanes - hell yeah! There's one with a dragon on it near my house, it rocks a lot.
Holiday Inn - I have no idea.
Matador the record label - yeah, why not. It made me mildly happy in the mid 90s.
Cadillacs - no feelings either way.
Snoopy - I prefer Charlie Brown.
Mutt Lange - pardon?
Beer glasses with handles - oh yes.
Contemporary Lava lamps - I don't think so, really.
Kate Hudson - yes, I think she's very purdy.
The song 'My Boy Lollipop' - only when Jasper sings it on The Simpsons
The design of the Sega Master System - n/a
The word 'rhododendron' - yes.
That new guy who presents Football Focus now - no.
Harps - oh god yes. They are the instrument of the gods, literally and metaphorically.
Galleons - definitely.
Chess - I have a little chess game on my mobile. I play it on the loo.
After-Eights - Num!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It seems I wouldn't be very compatible with anyone on this thread.

DL I cannot believe you are my age. You really do look quite young. Which is a good thing. You'll age well, young dude.

Anyhow what are Stevem and DL's thoughts on:
