I need to go to Washington D.C. in about two weeks. I am depating from the San Francisco Bay. I am looking for the cheapest way to do this but I don't know where to look. Cheaptickets.com? expedia.com? take Amtrak? Please help.

Nooooo, don't go thru Expedia!!!

I just booked a flight to NYC from Chicago for just shy of $200, through Orbitz.com.

Cripps Pink (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 24 September 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

southwest flies into BWI

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 24 September 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Southwest to BWI is a good option, probably the one I would take.
Fuck Dulles and Reagan, seriously.

america west is horrible. I'll never fly them again. they got me there and didn't loose anything, but they have a hundred layovers on their flights (which is why it's so cheap) and the planes are uncomfortable. also, there was some problem with the last flight I took and we unexpectedly had to change planes when we stopped in phoenix. an engine was probably about to fall off.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 24 September 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I also got deceived by America West when going from JFK to SNA in July. The JFK flight back was delayed for three hours as the crew decided whether or not the "Warning: engine about to fall off!" light was giving a faulty reading or not. AW also appears to buy their jets from the Mojave Airport mothball fleet as the insides smell like an old car that's been on a used car lot for too long.

Gator Magoon (Chris Barrus), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

also, they said there were no meals. fine. but then there WERE meals, but you had to pay for them. fine. but then there was nothing without meat. not fine! what the hell? it was like being taunted.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean, just say off the bad that there is food you have to pay for and I'll do the investigating myself, but they made it sound like there was nothing. Also, their stewardesses were ugly. Also, one of the inside panels was coming apart.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I've flown America West from LAX to JFK a bunch of times with no problems whatsoever. At $198 RT, with very little notice, it's hard to beat.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 24 September 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

As for finding cheap flights, see if you can actually telephone cheaptickets - they're often able to work out flights that are cheaper than the online options.

can anyone help me remember that website that's an aggregate flight tracking service of every airline?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.kayak.com

gbx (skowly), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

skyscanner?

Ed (dali), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh, uh, that doesn't track flights. but it's a ticket sales aggregator.

gbx (skowly), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

skyscanner! thanks ed. holy crap that was fast.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

except skyscanner doesn't cover north america! so, thanks gbx!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

sky scanner is far from complete though, it only does the budget airlines in europe, not a great number of the regular carriers and i often find them cheaper.

Ed (dali), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

kayak isn't finding me anything new either. i guess $500us is reasonable for toronto to london in may.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

try direct with the airlines, BA had some very good deals recently but I guess they must be ending as the northern hemisphere warms up.

Ed (dali), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

500 US doesn't sound bad though. Try Icelandair and layover in Reykjavik.

Ed (dali), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

Mark - for budget flights to Canada try http://www.flyzoom.com/

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

xpost thanks guys, will do.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

Also

http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Toronto/London-Area/Early-Summer/

Has flights at £258 rtn in May, supposedly, but they're not confirmed prices.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

oooh flyzoom looked promising but i couldn't find a match that beat $600us.

if i went via reykjavik i'd never get to england!

xpost thanks again nick! wow.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

cheapflights only flies out of london, sadly..

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, sorry. Where are you again?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

You've tried expedia and opodo, yeah?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, you're Toronto->London, duh.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 March 2006 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone here flown AirTran? Good or bad experiences? They have a pretty good looking sale going on. http://www.airtran.com/sale/

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 26 April 2007 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

Those are one-way fares - they're actually not that cheap.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 26 April 2007 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

As you may kno, we managed to get to florida for easter.
price was £198 each, return, from manchester, bottom line.

Mark G, Thursday, 26 April 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

The best luck I usually have is using Orbitz or some such service but playing around a lot with the date/time until I get a cheap fare
