VS

A porno version of My Fair Lady VS Ahn-alt against Robert Patrick, far too much CGI and Guns n Roses on the soundtrack.

Night Dreams!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

sci-fi porn beats my fair lady porn.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Terminator 2 is pretty dull IMO. Don't think I'd watch it again.

Misty Beethoven is considered the best porn film ever made and was shot by an Oscar winning cinematographer under a fake name (or so legend has it). If so then I'm glad I've not seen the runner ups.

As a result, this contest comes down to the girls involved.

Linda Hamilton Vs Constance Money.

The erstwhile Mrs James Cameron cannot hold a candle to the sexy one time porn starlet and - as such - Misty Beethoven wins.

But Rinse Dream, who directed Night Dreams (and Cafe Flesh) is someone famous under another name as well. (i can't remember who.)

I heart T2 though. Wotta movie.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Misty Beethoven.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 4 October 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure Rinse Dream was famous was he? I can ask around. Cafe Flesh is one of the few classic porn films I'm really interested in seeing it (the others are "Deep Throat", "The Devil in Miss Jones" and "Behind the Green Door" if you're interested). Especially since Slimetime magazine introduced their review of it by saying "Most hardcore porn frims are solid shit... Sure some people might think there's some 'artistic value' to it all, but they're just kidding themselves as they flog the bishop". And then go on to describe Cafe Flesh as "the exception" and A cool, thought provoking porno film".

So that got me kinda curious.

But "Misty Beethoven" is pretty shit IMO. Never understood the "This is art can't you see?" arguement. It's dire.

Night Dreams is weird vaginas-in-the-armpit dream sequence new wave porn. wall of voodoo's "mexican radio" plays a prominent part in one scene. can't speak about the sequals. but, yeah, rinse dream was supposed to be some hollywood maker of non-porn.

A quick search brought up some message board posts from his (supposed) brother:

Filmmaker Stephen Sayadian ( Cafe Flesh, Dr. Caligari) is doing very well. He has been in London for the past six years. Stephen has created many specials for the BBC and BBC1.He has also worked closely with the great Ray Davies on numerous projects. In 2003 Stephen left London and moved to his new home in Glencoe,IL(a north shore suburb of Chicago). Stephen is currently the head creative consultant for ClearChannel Corp. Also, look for a new project by Sayadian in the near future. He is currently in development with the Steppenwolf theatre and the Goodman theatre to write and direct an original play.

Damon ( Stephen's brother)

And even stranger...

I believe you will find me an expert on the subject of Stephen Sayadian ( Rinse Dream ). Hot breaking news on Stephen: He is hard at work with the Kerry campaign. Stephen is doing various visual projects for Kerry. These TV ads will appear in all of the swing states. Look forward to many new spots between now and November. Remember, I know your watching me!

Mad Mike, Monday, 4 October 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

But will his Kerry ads feature dwarves and vaginas in peoples armpits?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never seen any of these 'classic' porno films - is it hardcore in the sense that we'd consider hardcore today, or closer to Skinemax?

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 4 October 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

According to allmovieguide, mitchell froom, the fancypants music producer, wrote the score for Night Dreams.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

No, they are hardcore, just a little more imaginative than most. Night Dreams almost seemed like a porn version of Liquid Sky.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

But Night Dreams and Cafe Flesh were definitely the exception in 80's ameriporn. arty/goofy/etc.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

this is the part where i state that i am not actually an "expert" on porn, but that I have tried to check out stuff that is described as "weird" in every movie genre. And yet, I still haven't seen Caligula! or Deep Throat for that matter. Which I suppose I should see just cuz it was such an important movie at the time. Does it still hold up? hahahaha!!! Get it?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"Misty Beethoven" is most certainly hardcore but not nearly to the level of what I've seen in the more up to date stuff (like a friend's Peter North DVD). The sex is brief but still explicit, the movie is shot on film so it looks a lot nicer, the actors can act, the leading girl is beautiful and not false (no implants etc) and there's not many close ups. It's strange watching it, it seems like a film beamed from a different universe entirely. It plays out as an actual movie but with hardcore shagging. Weird. Conservative voting film critic Derek Malcolm voted "Behind the Green Door" as one of the 100 greatest films of all time in a list that had no Spielberg.

I've seen the softcore but of "Caligula" and it is awful. "Deep Throat", "Behind the Green Door" and "Devil in Miss Jones" are the must-see ones (along with "Misty Beethoven") apparently. Apparently "Deep Throat" is terrible though.

Mad Mike, Monday, 4 October 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It is shocking to see 70's porn shot on film with actual budgets and not-bad acting! Those were "event" films for all sorts of people. They played in non-porn movie theatres, you know?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 4 October 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Debbie Does Dallas was a big hit too, wasn't it?

Mad Mike, Tuesday, 5 October 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Debbie Does Dallas is shit! Avoid at all costs.

I've actually seen most of the porn classixxx discussed above, though I somehow never got around to Cafe Flesh. Misty Beethoven is silly, but it arguably has the most liberal-minded sex -- she ultimately impresses the pretty boy she's trying to impress by pegging him with a strap-on. Deep Throat is ridiculous, and not in a good way. Devil in Miss Jones is weird and grim -- it's basically a hardcore No Exit -- but the actress in it is kind of compelling. Her character actually seems like a character, not just an anonymous vagina. Behind the Green Door is also ludicrous, but in a more imaginative way than Deep Throat. All of these movies seem very 1970s, just like Night Dreams seems very first-days-of-MTV.

I'll take any of that stuff over the high-gloss porn auteurs of the video age, like Andrew Blake and Michael Ninn -- their stuff is sexy like a Victoria's Secret catalog, which is to say not.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, turns out a buddy has "Debbie Does Dallas" so, ignoring your advice, I figured I should give the most famous adult title of them all a watch. Ha ha - yeah it's pretty bad. A lot of surprisingly grim looking women in that and the guys have hilarious afro hair cuts. Interesting to see the star of "Cannibal Holocaust" in a totally different role (and by that I mean he does comedy in it too!). But this is still a very bad movie, who the hell paid money to see this back in the 70s?? Scary. Now I see why "Misty Beethoven" is considered a classic - simply on the basis that it's better than this! But with these two down, and with both being rubbish, I'm wondering if there is such a thing as the "classic era" when it comes to X films.

Mad Mike, Saturday, 9 October 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

In saying that, Debbie Does Dallas was probably no worse than T2.
