That he exists? That he posts here?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no

stomp (+dancefloor), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

DENIED.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i can indeed confirm that hugh grant is actually popular entertainer red buttons.

pfeffernuesse (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

once again the wire stumbles in, dashingly sweeps it's forelock back in place and charmingly mutters, "err, sorry, did i miss anything?"

Grant, Hugh. General idiot and ninny; an Oxford grad but reportedly eight sandwiches short of a picnic basket. "Pompous wank." Bi_______. Has used hookers in the past. Linked with Sandra Bullock and Elizabeth Hurley.

Tous Les Garcons S'Appellent Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Grant is another of the celebs currently gracing my town. He is staying at the hotel I used to work at, and apparently when room service knocked (to check minibar - used to be my favourite part of that job) he opened the door and yelled 'Why don't you just fuck off!' at the guy. Heh, effete english swearing is funny.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Is appearing in the next Bridget Jones film why? (I no read books, but that's not a good enough excuse...)

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

He was very good in both Bridget Jones' Diary and About a Boy (admittedly the same character in both films for the most part). He is quite attractive when he is not being foppish and idiotic.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he is charming. I must have some kind of transatlantic boy-crush on him. Giggle.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am nothing like him.

Tous Les Garcons S'Appellent Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

That's ok.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he's very good, much underrated. I also have something of a boy-crush on him, but mine is not of the transatlantic variety.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't keep us in suspense, Kevin! Why didn't he just fuck off???

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i think he's great!

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't know oops. I think he would have, if hugh had asked before yelling. We pretty much had to. We even had to believe guests if they said they had nothing from the minibar, even if they stank of tiny booze and had faces smeared in overpriced chocolate.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

My opinion on Mr Grant hasn't differed muh from what I said here.

He'll be in the next Bridget Jones film because he was in the last one, no? I don't remember his character being in the second book, (I read it when it came out, on holiday, in about four hours, so my memory of it may not be entirely reliable) but I do remember Colin Firth (as Colin Firth) being in it, so I imagine some liberties are going to have to be taken with the film adaptation of the book since Colin Firth will be otherwise engaged in the film being not Colin Firth. Or something.

Anyway, what are we confirming or denying?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, who is playing Colin Firth in the film?

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I did read somewhere it was going to be George Clooney for that "ooh, they used to go out in real life" crap heat-magazine type moment when he appears with Renee Zellweger.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Heat would consider that lame. Daniel Cleaver does flit into the second book but I'm sure they'll have written up his presence.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Heat would consider that lame

I think it was Heat I read it in though. I've now remembered things involving Daniel Cleaver keeping hanging around at inopportune moments, and something involving standing in a wheelie bin.

six years pass...

Hugh Grant takes time out of his punishing schedule of starring in middling Hollywood romantic comedies to interview an ex-News of the World hack. With a hidden tape recorder.

As an outsider, I find the image of David Cameron dressing up as "The Stig" to be pathetically hilarious.

Him Good question. You're not taping, are you?
Me [slightly shrill voice] No.

black bloc bologna (blueski), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

i've always thought hugh's wickedly adept at delivering a poor script with enough verve to make it something special. this piece is great.

Best bit of it is the Daily Mail feature from about 10 days ago where the ex-pap/pub landlord sells the story of HG visiting the pub and stiffing the house for two pints. Tape recorder visible peeking out of jacket pocket in all the pics, Mail has egg on its face because it did not connect ex-pap to NOTW.
