Andy, it seems sgs has broken radio silence to wish you a happy birthday. That's quite a compliment :)

Happy birthday!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Is 'breaking radio silence' code for breaking wind?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

aka dead air

Senor Embargo (blueski), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, Koogs, this is the drummer from the first line-up of Slowdive, before they actually released anything, though there is, possibly, a rare bootleg of us practising in a barn near Reading, b/w a backwards mix of Swervedriver's 'Rave Down', on Aeolianesque Records (1991); and I'd like to wish you a happy birthday.

the drummer from the first line-up of Slowdive, Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell me more about this bootleg.

(And happy birthday to Mr. Koogs!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy bizirthday, Koogs!

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Pre-Ceefax?

the bellefox, Wednesday, 6 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks everybod. (but don't do it again!)

did the usual thing of taking the day off and doing stuff that i've been meaning to for a while:

Saul Bass exhibition at the Design Museum. lots of posters and film loops of all his great title sequences (Bunny Lake still my favourite). kids were laughing at the NES system on display ('That's SO old...') without commenting on the coleco, the atari 2600 or the binatone pong that sat next to them, didn't recognise them as video game systems i guess. first time i'd been that far east, well, ever (first time i've walked over tower bridge, have been over it in late night taxi from the Betsey to Greenwich one evening i think but...). nice neck of the woods with both the winding lanes and the new modern building that are springing up. Will post photos somewhere sometime.

Japanese Swords exhibition at the British Museum. fascinating stuff that a couple of you would probably really enjoy. got ushered out by camp frenchman before seeing even half of them though. also managed to see, at third attempt, the Lewes Chessmen which were also great. the Horology Rooms were also good but suffered from too much ticking.

Record shopping (only as far as virgin megastore as it was late by now).
Wagamama, Streatham Street, Yasai Katsu Curry, (no 74?).
Frith Street looking for vodka bar which i couldn't find and none of you were in anyway.
Home. Indigestion.

Christian from Slowdive was, of course, in Eternal who had one single out on Sarah Records, sarah 32 if i remember correctly. (curses, Sarah 31, 32 was, of course, Sunstroke and 30 was Heavenly).

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 7 October 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I'd seen the Saul Bass exhibition when I was in London. And the David Shrigley one. Instead I just got pissed.

kids were laughing at the NES system on display ('That's SO old...') without commenting on the coleco, the atari 2600 or the binatone pong that sat next to them, didn't recognise them as video game systems i guess.

This is haunting and poignant.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 7 October 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i still have to go the Design Museum

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 7 October 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

DM is quite small, i thought, only two floors (although the SB exhibition, which finishes on the 10th, was quite extensive). and, oddly, they had all the jaguars on the top floor when you'd've thought it was easier to have them on the bottom.

DM shop was full of young, aesthetic, artistic-looking foreign people. made a happy man feel very old.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 7 October 2004 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yasai Katsu Curry, (no 74?).

72. And your body weight in edamame.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 7 October 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I also think you should be added to the Hopkins/Boy_of_Badgers birthday bash.

Happy Birthday Andy! Hey, is that Harvey Williams in that 'bear behind' tshirt, checking the value of his records on eBay? COR.

Happy hairy birthday!

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

How is it going, Andy? I can't seem to concentrate properly, because I'm wondering about your birthday antics. Have you been shopping at lunchtime? Did you see Moira Stewart, Britain's first black pop star?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 6 October 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Andy is out enjoying himself - a long boozy lunch followed by a visit to Raymond's Revue Bar.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 6 October 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Koogy, you old darling, happy birthday!

happy happy birthday!

cis, Thursday, 6 October 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. Deano is conspicuous by his absence. Is he staying off work today to avoid getting the dumps?

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 6 October 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

yes, sorry. day off work = no email access. cheers anyway.

quiet. went to Ava's House and got haircut. came back. ate cheese on toast. that is all. apparently the new broadcast cd and samurai executioner books 2 and 3 arrived at work today but, well, i wasn't there (also, i bought them myself so they are hardly presents). oh, and i bought the tivo a new disk (200hrs!).

of course everything i want to do doesn't start until tomorrow or next week - serenity, whiteread at the tate, mary chain (kind of) at sonic cathedral, peel's book... maybe next friday for the tate as they close at 6 the rest of the week. um.

see (some of) you tomorrow, probably.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 6 October 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Your Sudoku helpers are used fairly regularly by me. Happy birthday!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

samurai executioner books 2 and 3

this sounds awesome. Happy Birthday!

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthday Andy - aha, you're birthday is the day after me! Have a good one and thanks again for the boos mp3s.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 6 October 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

H BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 6 October 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

what is mary chain (kind of)? A disc jockeying appearance?

I like the sound of this haircut business.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 06:55 (twenty years ago)

Wait, so you don't know about the Telescopes/Sonic Boom gig tonight?

At the Marquee, of all places?

I'm seriously considering blowing out all other plans to go.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

Keef: "to avoid getting the dumps"

Do you mean the bumps? Or are you questioning Andy's diet?

Tag (Tag), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

Maybe that's what they were called at Keith's school. We'll have to ask Rodddddddddddd.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Our bin is full of Andy's hair - 32kg of it. We're thinking of adding it to our eBay listings in the Indie category.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

Happy Bid-day, Michael!

Mooro (Mooro), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

It might be the bumps, depending on which school you went to. Unfortunately Peter, I can't remember calling them that when I was at school with Roddddddddddddddd. You'd have to check up with my school in Cumbernauld.

p.s. Don't try the Ravioli, it's garbage.

KeefW (kmw), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

*delurking to wish koogs a happy belated*

bijoux (bijoux), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Keith, do you remember trying to give David "it's a lifestyle" Kitchen the bumps? He got very upset.

Tag (Tag), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

p.s. it's flea :)

bijoux (bijoux), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

flea? blimey! hi flea.

koogs (koogs), Saturday, 8 October 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)
