I am doing both of those things. So, no.

I am on a day-off, and I am dialing-upping as we speak, at an awesome 40.0Kbps speed.

I too am doing both those things, so no.

― Core of Sphagnum (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

That is somewhat heartening.

― aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Even when i try I'm ten posts behind. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it sucks.

― aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

yes i'm not either

― gaz (gaz), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to be both. But it's made life a lot less complicated to just not have an internet connection at home.

― Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

But don't you miss it K, I do!

― PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm... I don't miss the phone bills! Or the arguments with the spouse over "are you on the internet AGAIN?!?!?"

It really is better for me not to take ILX home with me, I think.

― Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm posting from home. I was out last night and today my plan is to drink apple juice and download records for the next 5 or 6 hours.

― Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

it's raining, there's no chance of me getting dressed either.

― Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 October 2004 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i think there's something else that slows me down....I type my name and email address every time i post. But i can't seem to not do this.

― aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Please allow.

― aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am posting from home, but doing it via sweet sweet DSL.

― Matt (Matt), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still on dial-up. I don't know whether to switch when I move.

― k3rry (dymaxia), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I do post from home via dialup, but right now I'm posting from work via our satellite broadband link.

― caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't feel like I'm ever 'behind with posting' when I'm at home on dial-up. I think slowness on a primarily text-based site like ILX is more likely to do with having a crap old computer and/or browser than connection speed.

Unless you're talking about really long threads and you' re one of those people who hasn't discovered how to change your settings to just show the last 50 answers. I even leave images on at home.

― Alba (Alba), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it's been good for me to not have interweb access at home as handy as it would be for other things. i will probably snap and order a 1meg line soon tho.

― Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I deliberately avoided having internet access at home for a year or so, and it was probably a good thing for me mentally and socially.

― caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 October 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i appreciate all of these answers. I'm glad I am not alone. My slowness is probably a result of my ignorance, a crap computer, and mostly my ignorance aka how to post more quickly without typing name in again and again.
Sometimes it makes me a more thoughtful poster, although i envy everyone who is instantly posting during the debates, for instance.
I will never be fast. Slow but good? Or decent. I hope.

― aimurchie, Friday, 8 October 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You should register and then change various settings if you want to end your envy.

― Alba (Alba), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

That's your answer to everything, isn't it, N?

― Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't ILX from work anymore :(

― Towelette Pettatucci (Homosexual II), Friday, 8 October 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I do not post from work!

I am on dial-up too!

― jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 October 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't post from work, as I stupidly seem to be one of those people who actually has a job where I have to, y'know, do stuff like what they pay me for.

― ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 8 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

To be fair, I normally only post from work in my lunch break. When I'm not on my lunch break I'm too busy trying to fix everyone else's computer problems.

― caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 8 October 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I am unemployed and on dial-up.

― AaronHz (AaronHz), Saturday, 9 October 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't post from work (though I'm sometimes being paid when posting) but not on dial-up.

― miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 9 October 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)
