Fancy a gig, Friday Nov 19th?

Yes, finally after our exploits further afield, Fractured return to the capital with a gig at the Bull and Gate, Kentish Town (http://www.bullandgate.co.uk/) on Friday November 19th. Entry £5 or £4 with a flyer wot you can download from the B&G website.

Support is from The Perfects and The Disco Students.

I hope lots of ILXers can make it - it'll be a great night if you can!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 11 October 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, that's the day after *we* play the B&G! I'll try to leave you a note backstage and see if they ever clean the place...

Will try to make it down if I'm not too hungover...

(Wow, my social life gets booked up in advance these days!)

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

They haven't cleaned it since I first played there in 1983, Kate!

Seriously I like the B&G - the sound's always good, nice friendly promoter and soundman and always a decent crowd in.

I will try my very best to see you play on the Thursday!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny coz there are so many reasons to hate on the B&G, and I don't go there much. I guess the reason I don't really like playing there is because we've never been on a good bill there - the other bands are always totally unsuitable. But the sound is FANTASTIC - I will give them that, I've never had sound problems there. And the door policy, though it seems Draconian when you're starting out, is actually one of the more fair in London.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

is that the one where you have to bring in 25 dudes?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It was 17 the last time we played there, but hey, maybe inflation.

The WORST door policy I've heard of recently was some place where they said that in order to get a gig, you had to give them a check for £80. If you brought in enough people, you get it back, but otherwise they cashed it.

That's just plain old fashioned pay to play. We reported them to the Musicians Union.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know you had to bring a certain number of people.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you don't get paid unless you bring over 17 people.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

We got £85 last time - I didn't ask how it was worked out. There were more than 17 in!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember the actual accounting by which they work it out. I should ask Catty if we've had our contract from them yet.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What kind of music do you play? The Bull & Gate is just down the road from me.

Wooden (Wooden), Monday, 11 October 2004 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

**What kind of music do you play?**

This is what the B&G said last time :

**Fractured are tonight's headliners. The B&G is almost full for a full on punk/pop assault. Jilted John, Buzzcocks, more power chords than Jon Fat beast has had meat feast deep pan pizzas. I make out a line about "Ugly Van Nistleroy" which is all it needs to win me over. God (if there is one) bless Joey Ramone. Fractured have a bit of the whirlwind 1!2!3!4! Hey Ho lets Go! Of The Ramones about them. "Everyone's a Bastard, everyone's a bastard, everyone's a bastard, everyone's a bastard!" sheer bloody poetry mate.
Just as I was pondering the near perfect B&G evening there’s one more cherry left for the cake, or should I say Blancmange. Neil Arthur is summonsed from the crowd to do a fast and furious version of Living On The Ceiling. Stunning stuff, thanks Fractured.

Goodness!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 11 October 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Does the B&G have a website? I can't remember. I wonder if we'll get to be in the FLYER!!! next month.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(I wonder if the Windmill and the Pleasure Unit have updated their websites, either, but I'm mad at the Pleasure Unit for spamming us with crackrock ads)

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm looking forward to this, having managed to miss every other Dr C gig in the history of ILE. Bull & Gate double-whammy!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe they'll just let you sleep there, Matt!

(Ugh, I can't find the B&G's listings for November, but the Pleasure Unit have the worst photo of us! Who wrote that bio? I'm gonna sue...)

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the name of your new band, Kate?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Kissing Time.

(It's not actually my new band, it's a friend's band that I'm playing with, but, erm, details, details... just explaining about how I can be mystified by the photos and bios being used.)

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 11 October 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway....

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Hey don't forget this...two weeks on Friday. In fact it's a joint FAG/and my birthday FAP - so it would be great to see everyone. Can someone put it in the FAP diary? (Does this still exist?)

There's a nice flyer on the gigs page here : http://www.fractured.info/

...just click on the little picture of Collina and print it to get in for £4. (I am so crap that I can't get the bloody thing into the thread as a picture..)

We will be joined onstage by a famous star of London's swinging 'Britpop' scene. More later.....

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Steve.

Also TKT are playing the Bull and Gate the night before us....or did you mean that gig? (I've realised that I don't know how to see the calendar!)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 1 November 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you see the calendar?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile, you didn't put the Pleasure Unit gig on the FAPCalendar, so I can still sulk. ;-)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 15 November 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

So it's tonight! I am looking forward to seeing lots of ILXers, new and old. Don't forget to print out the Collina flyer above to get a quid off. I'll be in the B&G from 6 ish until we play at around 10ish, but I'll come over to the Pineapple after the soundcheck to see who's around. If anyone fancies a game of pool we can do that at the B&G at some point. See you later!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 19 November 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be there Rocktor C!

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 19 November 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Grebt, Ricky! See you later!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 19 November 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope the Rocktor will be doing some rapping.

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 19 November 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I will sing on one number if we do it. I hope we don't.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 19 November 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you do!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 19 November 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

oh heck

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 19 November 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

How was it?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to apologise to Dr C for not making the move from pub to gig - I just didn't really feel up to it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 20 November 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

The good doctor rocked. And he sang as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 21 November 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

is The Lex going to review this gig?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 21 November 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

He didn't go - he left the pub with me, and we were on the tube together for a while.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 21 November 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

**I want to apologise to Dr C for not making the move from pub to gig**

Hey, no problem Martin -I enjoyed talking to you in the Pineapple.

**How was it?**
**The good doctor rocked. And he sang as well**

Erm yes. Well first off thanks to the intrepid crew of Starry, Carsmile, MattDC, Katie G and Ricky T who made it to the B&G. Sorry I didn't have the chance to chat with people for very long in the Pineapple or the B&G - it was fairly hectic and I had various groups of people in different locations I needed to see. Especially - sorry PJM that I didn't get to come over and chat with you (I always enjoyed your posts and was looking forward to talking reggae) I was kind of wedged into a corner in the Pineapple and couldn't really get out. I did say brief hellos to Dadisimus and Ally C, I think.

And Ken - when I got back to the B&G the pool table was indeed in action, but the phone number that Matt gave me (to ring him, to tell you) didn't work for some reason! Sorry - the pool challenge will have to wait.

The gig - well it wasn't our best gig - a couple of stupid things like a normally rocksolid guitarist playing Pubs Not Homes in the wrong bloody key didn't help. And it would have been nice to stick to the agreed setlist. I did sing - I seemed to end up in the audience while doing so, which was a surprise. No sooner had I clambered back for the next song when Jeff's mike stand flew offstage - I don't know what happened there. Of the set proper we nailed enough songs for me not to feel too disappointed - Support Band, (You Can Say That, Right But) Fact Is (You Can't Prove It), Collina and Last Train were grebt.
Lots of people came up and said nice stuff afterwards, so maybe it was alright.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 22 November 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sorry i couldn't make it for your show dr.c i just got bought a full pint as people headed for the show and by the time that was done i'd have missed half of it. and i'm also sorry PJM to still not have said hi properly.. next time though!

and sorry i couldn't make it for your show either, kate. arrgh i'm rubbish.

the barmaidshepherds pie at the pineapple was really tasty.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry i nipped off before the end, but i had one of those "uh-oh, really drunk, must go home straight away" moments.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 22 November 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

rare occurence, i'm sure ;)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

**but i had one of those "uh-oh, really drunk, must go home straight away" moments**

Me too, around about the second song. More people have said nice stuff today, so feeling better about it. The promoter has asked us back to play one of the closing nights of the B&G early next year. (It's been sold, or is about to be..) Next gig Ipswich, Jan 8th. Then I think it's Death Disco at Notting Hill.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG WTF!!??!!??!!

no more bull and gate? it is a sad day for toilet venue lovers everywhere :(

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the times they are becoming quite different

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know the full story, but it could be the end around March. The talk is that it won't be a venue or even a pub anymore. It's sad - there's something fairly magnificent about the bull and gate.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

We will talk reggae next time, Doc. Those corners were very difficult to get out of.

Ken, the barmaid shoved a jar of mustard into Ally C's gob. She also had a habit of continuing her conversation with the people at the bar whilst walking towards us. At least twice I thought she was talking to us. Obv. this was early doors, walking anywhere was impossible later on.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

what did ally c do to deserve such rough treatment??

That night I counted up about 28 of us in the pub.. it must have been a contender for the highest man to pub size ratio in a fap.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

er.. by "man" i mean the number of people, rather than the size of the men.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto on the sorries for not coming over to the B&G but nice to see you, and see you again soon.

It is not called Mustard. It is called Hopkins' Kryptonite.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovely to see who it was I saw. You're all VERY SPECIAL. The mustard in the gob thing was only the final stage in a serious of bizarre and angry flirtations. I like to think.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought you said you slept in the nude. you lied to me.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

to you..on you...what's the diff eh?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry, Phil. How else would I have lured you into sharing a room with me?

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 22 November 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you back home, Cookie?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Are you?

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Good.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
We're playing in Ipswich this Sat, Jan 8th, if anyone is in the area.

Is Ipswich a good place, I've never been?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

More tales from on the road. The Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich is the grebtest venue ever. Homemade curry and fiery post-gig chilli from the lovely landlady, Val, and free booze all night from Jeff the promoter. The support band were a punk band with bagpipes!! The place was rammed and we made £100! Yay! The only slight fly in the ointment was the article in the East Anglian Times abt us, which made us sound like a must-see for every be-mohicaned cider punk in Suffolk. They obviously didn't bother to look at our puffy photo. Despite our usual rama-lama-ding-dong of powerchords I think a few of them found us a little on the arthouse side. A cry of 'fucking Brighton c-nts' rang out at one point! (Brighton? 3 of us have only ever been there twice!) But loads of people came up and were really complementary after, so overall a good night. Photos here : http://www.vc25.co.uk/

MJ Hibbett, who I think some people round these parts know and like, are playing there next week.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
We're playing the Cable Club at Brighton Pressure Point on March 21st if anyone's around. A Monday, yes, but we'll cheer you up if you've had a shit weekend. It's £3 of something silly to get in. 3 bands.
