FAPOX! Fancy a Pint Oxford - Saturday 6th November

WHY? We haven't had a FAPOX in a while.

WHERE? The Angel and Greyhound, St. Clements. This is good coz, well, it's a nice pub, but also it is on the Magic Bus route from that London, and the bus driver shouts "St Clements!"

What a friend we have in Streetmap: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=452348&y=206007&z=0&ar=Y

WHEN? Saturday 6th November, didn't you read the thread title? I think we should kick things off at 3.00. I'll be there then, anyway!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Who else is in Oxford these days? Obviously Cis being there is a major incentive!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Cis being here is indeed a really major incentive. I read an email from her just a few seconds ago...she seems to be enjoying it here which is cool.

Johnney B, Gregory Henry and Jellybean are all here. And I know Rebecca is still about as I saw at a gig a few weeks ago, although she hasn't posted in (what might literally be) years.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd really, really appreciate it if ppl who know about such things could add this to the ILX Calendar. I tried myself but it is prompting me for a username and password.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Rebecca still reads this thing... she might not like me for mentioning it though.

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there! This is an exciting thing, to me.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ah Gravel! I've been trying to think of yr new name for ages! I see you have a comma, now.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 11 October 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It's amazing the way those commas get, around.

cis (cis), Monday, 11 October 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't mind coming along to this.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, the Angel & Greyhound. Will we get any further west than The Plain or is it a strictly OX4 FAP?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I might come to this! I have decided that I really should Try Zone Seven More...

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost)

I suppose I'd count as a lapsed OX2.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell me, son, how long is it since your last visit to the Elm Tree? 5 Hail Shifty Discos and a holy water shower.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

shouldn't that be crap beer and sticky floors instead of the holy water shower?

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I am also curiously excited, although why I'm not sure - the tales of FAPs of yesteryear still reverberate around the wires of the interweb, acting as an incitement to continue the noble tradition of getting tipsy on Real Ale and talking nonsence for 5 hours. Count me in!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost re. the Elm Tree)

Which is why we never visited it!

Our local was the Perch, up Binsey way, and the Trout Inn was also not far away. When in town we usually went to the Mitre. Angel & Greyhound was Laura's "work" local.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

added to calendar :)

not sure if i can make it, would like to try oxford more, recent flying visit to the football raised quite a large degree of wist for the old place...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You know you'll want to come... And it's in the daytime...

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to come to this but will be having friends over to my place post Blackheath fireworks so it looks unlikely.

Will there be fireworks at OxFAP?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

There can be - there HAS to be a fireworks display someplace local to that. Fireworks is a GOOD shout.

How do you get to the calender anyways? I can't find it ANYWHERE!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

http://my.calendars.net/ilxfap

Fireworks in South Parks?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

aren't the south park ones usually a bit earlier (ie they are neither on 5th nov, diwali or the end of ramamdan, but somewhere between all three...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.visitoxford.org/oxford/tourism.nsf/pages/Events2004.html

says they're on the 30th October

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Dang. We can take sparklers with us.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we visit the SHRUNKEN HEADS?

Starry (hello chickens), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if it's a three o'clock kick-off, we Oxford types can act as tour guides to the outsiders. Shrunken heads and sparklers will be our pleasure!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitt Rivers! Brain Coral! Big pointy sticks!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's party like it's 1899!

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers for putting it in the calendar Steve, was the footie you mentioned vs Exeter with Tim H? He mentioned this to me the last time I was in London.

Might be up for a bit of pubgration later if the fancy takes us, but we're definitely starting at the Angel & Greyhound coz its near the magic bus bus stop, innit.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been to Oxford in years. Way too long. I have put it in my diary and will shoot my bandmates if they try to schedule a rehearsal that day.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah but Pitt Rivers first!!!

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the problem with 3pm start in the angel would be getting over magdalen bridge at any point later in the day. if (if) i come up, i'd probably get there nice and early, anything decent on at moma at the mo, ma(rk)?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.modernartoxford.org.uk/Exhibitions/
this is the exhibition on at the moment...

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

looks alright, probably worth 20 minutes or so :)

also i've never been to pitt-rivers (or in fact any museums in oxford, because I R rub...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely you jest. Pitt Rivers is fandabbydozy.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

serious, it's dreadful isn't it?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

It roolz, you silly bugger. Unless you have objections to shrunken heads, which would frankly be ludicrous.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It is absolutely brilliant, you nutloops! I will be there! LONDON: when shall we get the Ox Tube then? Don't play silly beggars and suggest faffing with the Cheapo Boneshaker Bus, it is cheap but also menko and frankly I am willing to pay premium for the Ox Tube Experience hurrah.

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

like i say, i'm still not sure if i'm coming, so i'll let others plan innit :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysis, take it a step at a time, love. I've got to move house between now and then, and can't possibly think about catching buses before Hallowe'en.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh what, it's in November?! Oh remind me closer to the time then, clart.

Starry (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

SH1T I can't believe I just said CLART.

death to glc (hello chickens), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry petals, i'm going to EIGHT HOURS OF LOVELY PONCY ART instead, mmm, art...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Cripes.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi dere. Who's going to Ox? Who's already there and meeting us for bouze? Who fancies having a shufty at the Continental Street Market?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm so upset. I really wanted to go to this, but I've been hit with rent and a £40 bill for the van rental for going to Liverpool, the same week that I lost my job, and I am just in tears at my financial dire straits. I just can't afford to get to Oxford, let alone booze it up and have fun. :-(

My friend is having a housewarming costume party that weekend, though. I'm going as Pete Doherty's Drug Habit which means that I'm going to turn up with an acoustic guitar and shout out rubbish Clash covers until people buy me drink to shut me up. Ha ha.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll certainly be in Oxford on Saturday but prior to the FAP will be doing the usual personal things I have to do when I'm there.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to be around, but with my current track record I'll probably just get up in time for 3pm. Though Broad Street is on my way down to St. Clements.

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh I'll come to the market with you Liz. I wonder if they will have widgeon!

Shabazz (hello chickens), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

That looks good liz! I will be buying marsupilami stuff, I guess!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I crave WILD BOAR SAUSAGE.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, am in Oxford in a fortnight so might give this s miss (as I am supposed to be at a party that evening). But maybe not. A&G is a nice pub after all (does it still have the bar billiards?)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

they have bar billiards.

Thx for the tip about the broad st market Liz. Will definitely check it out. Honestly, I'm always amazed how ppl *outside* oxford always seem to know what's going on here so much better than I do - takes me back to the time How Does It Feel? came to my local and I found out it was happening from Carsmile (in London!)

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

bump! dorwn yr election sorrows in Oxford this weekend!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Right. Londoners: what time shall we catch a bus? I vote BIG RED BUS for upstairs-alarming-swaying-on-the-motorway fun. I'd like to fanny around at the market for a bit, so we could set off (from Victoria? Central innit) at 11 or so, arrive 1ish, loaf around and then go to the pub. How does this sound?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 4 November 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Bus, Bus, Grate Big Bus!!!

(AKA Victoria at 11ish at the bus stop fine by me)

(Also do you actually mean the OxTube? I hope so cos I dunno where the others go from, like)

Shabazz (hello chickens), Thursday, 4 November 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm also going to be travelling on the OxTube, but a good deal earlier than 11:00 - as I mentioned, I have a few things to do in Oxford which I can only really do alone before I go to the FAP. But no doubt I'll see everybody there in the afternoon.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to blackpool pleasure beach woo+! you guys have fun though.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 4 November 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Bring us back some rude sweets KC.

See you for congregation at the Angel & GHound, Marcello.

I do mean the Choob, Shabazz. Does it still go from Grosvenor Gardens?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 4 November 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

rude sweets?!??!?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 4 November 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I have SEEN THEM whilst on the sh1tty 73. But I can't think about buses any longer else I'll be sick. DERE LORD beer has killed me.

Shabazz (hello chickens), Thursday, 4 November 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It's tomorrow!
And I've just starting to lose my voice. Ah well, might have to hide in the corner then...

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! It's been ages since I last fell asleep on the Oxford Choob.

robster (robster), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been to the Angel and Greyhound, is it nice?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

It's OK. Nice garden as far as I remember. Not that that's any use to us in November.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's more than OK. It roXor!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 November 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really excited about tomorrow!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 5 November 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be a bit late as I am shopping with Cute Bjork Girl. I'm still excited about this though!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 6 November 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Have a good time, youse! Hoist a pint for me, and I will be there in spirit, if not in person.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks. I'm listening to Denim on Ice at the moment and drinking Black Sheep whilst I'm waiting for my dinner to cook. Currently being completely weirded out by the bastard son of "Vienna" and "Lady in Red" called "Synthesizers in the Rain".

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

We are here and its cool1!nr

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 6 November 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

that rather weirdly worded post was from Graham's rather odd but still cool in its way WAP phone, which I so couldn't get the hang of using - you really need Ickle Pixie Fingers to use one of those things. FAP was kewl tho - props to Sarah, Ricky T, Robster, Liz and Marcello from making the trek from London and Cis, Graham, Johnney B and Jellybean who made the slightly shorter trek seeing as they were already here, like.

ppl were taking pics but not me, ahem....

and we played a game called NTROPY which makes Jenga look decidedly tame!!!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 6 November 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry I missed it. How is Graham doing?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 6 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Photos.. but only of the game.

Just lots of wood

That's the weirdest clothes horse I've ever seen!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 7 November 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I kid you not, that game rocks. You don't get the majesty of it in 2D.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 8 November 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I appear to be doing some sort of very camp dancing in that last shot.

robster (robster), Monday, 8 November 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god, I drunkenly played that game once with a scary ex boyfriend in that very pub. (Can't remember which scary ex, though, could have been one of two.)

Glad that the FAP went well... would it be gauche or just honest to admit that I'm kind of glad I didn't go? ;-)

Ach, oh well, Party was fab, though. My costume must have been convincing as no one would sit next to me on the bus, and I got offered crack twice on the walk from the bus stop to the house. Tee hee hee.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysis! NTROPY costs £30! It is rather good though.

Holla to Saturday chaps. I have venison and duck cured sausages from the Continental Marché, hurrah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Liz!

"gauche or just honest to admit that I'm kind of glad I didn't go"

Oh fine, our provincial FAPs not good enough for you, huh? (snort)

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

No, that's not what I was referring to.

(See the text that I sent MarkH)

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And my tiny jar of ginger preserve, hurrah!

Shabazz (hello chickens), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

was this the same pub that radiohead frequented? pork scratchings were the inspiration for the Paranoid Androids song, you know.
