Hey ho, I need to book a hotel for later this month, preferably one that is a reasonable cab ride from around the Highbury/Islington area.

We normally end up at the Holiday Inn Express near Old St. tube, but I was hoping for something a bit more interesting. Sadly t'internet mostly hawks those rubbish bot-like hotel sites that peddle all the same places.

Any ideas for say, around Spitalfields Market - or even neighbourhoods north of there? Especially ones that do nice cooked breakfasts...*

*b&bs that would want us tucked in by midnight are no go, as we'll be coming back at around 3 am.

thank you,
elisabeth

what's your budget? Malmaison is next to smithfields market, and is a cheap cab ride from highbury Islington and nice

Sorry, I had to rush from work - didn't see this until now. Thanks for the tip Vicky, I'll check it out... I didn't realise that there was a Malmaison there. I know it's a bit pricey but we reckon you have to pay £100+ for anything a bit nicer.

Have a look at this website http://www.wotif.com/ which has loads of hotels for reduced rates. it might help from the pov that you can get more expensive hotels for cheaper. Although, you do need to know what the hotels are in the first place!

I live right near H&I! There's an old hotel called the "Highbury Hotel" - but I fear it is falling prey to the new-flat-construction that is going on there. I can check tonight...

Info is here:

Relatively cheap, and in a great spot - beside the Higbury Fields park & a short walk to H&I tube.

I haven't actually paid much attention to the construction on Highbury Grove, so if it is now closed my apologies for the wild goose chase.

Thanks Rob - just checked it though and sadly it's coming up as fully booked for that night - whether that's because they're no longer taking bookings I'm not sure!

Found a nice looking hotel by Temple station on that other site, would that be a ridiculous cab fare back?
