what do people know about hepatitis c?

just found out that a friend was diagnosed with hepatitis-c today. me being me, i (after consoling him, of course) immediately checked online to look for ways that it can be transmitted... i shared bongs with him when i used to smoke a couple years ago and i used his deodorant stick a couple weeks ago. those turn out to not be risk factors in 99.99% of instances-- contrary to my general sense of impending doom. my girlfriend, on the other hand, has shared straws with him to snort coke with. which is a known risk factor. she is getting tested tomorrow... so who has experience or knowledge they can share? i've read stuff on line, looking for more testimonial style info or contrarian medical points of view...

Phew. Well, I gather its means of transmission is pretty similar to that of HIV (thrilling prospect, I know). The coke straw story I've not heard of before but given that we're talking mucuous membranes and all it's not too hard to see why that could be factor. Beyond that, all I can say is that it doesn't hurt to get yourself tested (and vaccinated for the other hepatitis variants as well, obv.).

(...Greg, this isn't anyone I know, is it?)

hey! ummm... i don't feel comfortable disclosing who it is, because i suspect you may tangentially know him this being such a small town and all... if you feel that you could be at risk i will privately email you his name...

yeah, my girlfriend's mom is a pathologist and says that the likelyhood of her having been transmitted the virus by sharing intranasal straws is very minute but is a legitimate enough concern to get tested.

and btw, it's not someone we've discussed mutually knowing, just so you know.

Heh, no, I wasn't asking because of that reason! Just generally curious, don't need the name.

eight years pass...

Hey I just met you
And this is crazy
But here's some berries
Now you have Hep-A
