Building a Wall Around London: Classic or Dud?

It keeps the Monarchy at bay. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are trapped. A lot of Londoners might hear about the wall, leave the city and discover other, friendlier, less-polluted parts of the UK.

I say classic. Anyone want to state the case against?

Isn't that stage three of the Congestion Charge anyway?

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

As a Londoner (or London-born anyway), I fully support this idea, as long as it extends to Edgware. Keeps those dirty provincials and Northern types at bay. This is the first genuinely useful, progressive thing to come out of controversial colin's "mouth".

The question is though - do we keep Gareth or not???

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Errr... hasn't this London wall idea already been tried?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaah yes, we can put Calum's head on a stick outside of the walls to warn invaders.

My idea: a big river, right through the middle.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What about a new logo:

"London. If you like it then you've never been North of Watford you ignorant, pompous twat".

Controversial Colin.., Tuesday, 12 October 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I fully support this idea, as long as we can have anti-gravity engines positioned in the bowels of the city to make us a piratical flying city-state. The World would be ours for the taking. The oceans would run red with the blood of those who would defy us. Londoners, think of the glory!

The Roman army to thread.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

A WALL?!?!? AROUND LONDON?!?!? Zoinks! What will they think of next? Building a BRIDGE over the River Thames to link us with the dread plague pits of SARF LONDON?!?!? OH NO!!! It cannot be done!

Get out your pikes and poleaxes and prevent this, ye peasants, rise up and revolt! I'll meet you on Black Heath and we'll massacre the scurvy dogs!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost
the pirate office block in 'the meaning of life' to thread

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Please.

Build it now and stop the flow of pig-ignorant day trippers down to Brighton.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely that would only work if you extended the wall out to Burgess Hill?

robster (robster), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm in favour of building a wall around the author of this thread

OMG LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (blueski), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a wall around London. It's called the M25.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

do you think they can get this done in time for the christmas shopping period?

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Build a wall around Regent Street and Oxford Circus... yessssss!

(I mean, if they can build a wall to keep protesters in, surely they can build a wall to keep shoppers OUT!!!)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What would they put in their place?

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Why would anyone want to live IN London outside of the job market. Really, it is a pretty horrid place.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Controversial Colin,...do you...have...some kind agenda?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't seem very kind to me.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Controversial Colin went to London and stood on the left hand side of the escalator. Some people shouted at him and he went home and cried and started this thread.
