I have trouble-shooted heavily and tried the obvious solutions but it still won't work. is there any reason they normally fail?

God hates us.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, that was uncharacteristically cynical. It's cos I've just had a similar situation with a trackball.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

so annoying. it's like losing a limb.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

mine just went ahead and broke last weekend. Try another mouse?

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't accept that me and this mouse are finished. also it was working fine yesterday? is it common for them to just stop working?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

have you tried washing the ball in warm water and re-inserting?

I know. Almost as bad, my home mouse has a programable button just under my thumb, which I use as a 'back' button. But I've gotten too used to it, and don't have one at work, and now when I'm here my thumb twitches stupidly every time I need to turn back.

xpost...well, it's worth trying another just to see if it's hardware or software, no? But yeah. I've seen them just stop. Other option would be to dismantle and clean. Could jsut be a bit of fluff in there.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I am trying to dismantle now I think. and praying.

Ha-HEM.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad I have laser mouse!

Mice always break, it's best not to get too attached :(

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

you can get a new one just like it

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess so. it costs money though : (

My friend handed me a trick mouse today that electrocuted me!

I'm not sure whether you were talking about the scroll wheel on the top or the ball on the bottom; I'm assuming the ball. Usually the three rollers get coated in crud from your mousepad, so you have to just swab it off gently with a q-tip or something.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant the scroll wheel at the top. It's working again for no reason!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

That's more mysterious. I find in general with the new mice/trackballs, especially with optical sensors, the best course of action to clear up problems is just to blow on them with a sharp burst of forced air, to clean grit out of the sensor or the mechanisms.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it's bizarre.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Grab a pair of tweezers and remove the crud fromt he roller anyways.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I use a finger. First I exert a little counterclockwise pressure to loosen up the slot, and once it's free of obstruction I wiggle my finger around the bits, but gently, so that I don't injure the soft material. Sometimes it helps to blow on it a little. It doesn't take long. And after a good ball-wash everything rolls smoothly. I reckon I'm personally responsible for - and I'm not exaggerating here - about thirty sessions like this at my University alone, usually taking place late at night when I'm kind of frustrated. That place may not remember me later, but I like to think the student body benefitted from my diligence.

I can't figure out of the double entendres are intentional! They have to be, but...what if they aren't!?!?!?!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

they aren't

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)
