The Warriors + Halloween = OMG please come.

OK, I'm getting scared that no one's going to come to my Halloween party, and I'm going to go broke and also embarassed for throwing a busted-ass party, so I'm posting it here. tell all your friends because the venue holds like 600:

A party of gigantic proportions is looming in the neon underground of New York City. The armies of the night number 100,000; they outnumber the police 5 to 1; and on Saturday, October 30th, they're gathering at The Warriors Halloween Party @ Supreme Trading.

THE WARRIORS HALLOWEEN PARTY
Supreme Trading
8000 square foot warehouse venue
213 North 8th Street (Roebling/Driggs)
Williamsburg, Brooklyn
10PM - 4AM
OPEN BAR 10-11.
$10 rsvp to warriorshalloween@yahoo.com
$14 at door

AFRIKA BAMBAATAA
Dan Selzer & Mike Simonetti (Crazy Rhythms Gang)
Tim Sweeney (DFA / Beats in Space)
Matt B. Safer (The Rapture)
Cat Hartwell (Fannypack)
Ilirjana (Vice / The Pop Manifesto)
Phil-Two (Fagtronix / Bad Mixing)

COME IN A GROUP OF FRIENDS DRESSED AS YOUR OWN GANG, WITH YOUR OWN DISTINCT STYLE, AND A GANG NAME.

There's going to be a photographer there. You enter in the "gang registry" and have your gang photo taken. Later in the night, they'll all be projected against the main wall. And maybe I'll email you the photos, I guess.

That sounds like an awesome party, Phil. Not quite as cool as our deck party, but you know, still pretty awesome.

www.expedia.com

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX....come out and play-ay-ay!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I would probably get Jordan and s1ocki and others and do the gangsta hasidim thing that we discussed elsewhere.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Do NOT recommend expedia to me! ;)

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose I will have to play Ozone Breakdown by Renegade Soundwave and Can You Dig It? By Pop Will Eat Itself? Any other songs sample the Warriors? Craig Mack's Flava in Your Ear (Bad Boys...come out and play!)?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

That Wu-Tang song where ODB quotes that line.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sorry, Phil. My heart will be there.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Do NOT recommend expedia to me! ;)

whats wrong with expedia?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a *cough* bad experience with them.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

They are bad people, trust me.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

They fucked us about, too.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm so there! i'm sure you'll do fine.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Cynthia Nixon Now More Than Ever (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

omg that flyer pwned mine!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

we were already trying to come up with a group costume idea just this weekend though admittedly not on the pretext of this party which i didn't forget about though and still plan to go to.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Best halloween party idea evar. I've just emailed details to a load of people. Now all I have to do is talk my girlfriend out of a Degrassi: The Next Generation themed gang.

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man. I would totally go with a big gang of Senators. We'd work on the accents and everything. (No rubber masks though.)

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Any other songs sample the Warriors?

Frankie Bones - 'Baseball Fury' has almost nothing but Warrior's samples

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

More Warriors sampling

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to go as sol yurick but i can't find a picture of him.

Cynthia Nixon Now More Than Ever (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I will not play any Xorcist at that party, sorry.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

can you play rockapella's "where in the world is carmen sandiego" in honor of the radio voice lady?

actually, dont. thanks.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man I would kill to go to this.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

this does look pretty cool phil, hope it goes well :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks carsmile! I hope I see some of you there - except I'll probably be busy making sure things are going okay. i was going to DJ but then i realized that all the dance'y music i would have played, i stole from dan's sets anyways, and probably no one would like it if i played apples in stereo and belle & sebastian all nite, so... i'll leave the DJ'ing to the professionals.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like it :(

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

This does sound great. Not that the halloween party I'm going to will suck, but it doesn't have Warriors. :(

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil, I haven't convinced anyone to follow my lead and come as part of the "Ghetto Unicorns" gang (filthy white old cotton sweatsuit w/hoodie and empty white paper towel roll horn)-- this gonna be an issue? Rachel's plan to dress as Amelia Earhardt is intractable.

And does DJ Dickerson Pike still get a short but sweet unpaid very early slot at the turntables pretty please?

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you sure you want to? i mean the only time I could possibly have to give (i have 7 djs already) is like the first 20-30 mins of the back room - which maybe nobody will wander into during that time? i have really no idea what kind of crowd to expect, though im fantasizing that 600 people will show up with their wallets out right at 10PM for the FREE BACARDI....

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

But the Ghetto Unicorns gang sounds awesome!!!!

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

how could you think that no one would show up to this? it says afrika bambaata, dfa and vice... there will be people there... unless new york is way more jaded than i realized.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

admittedly, and no disrespect to Tim and Ilirjanna, but they don't equate to a DFA and/or VICE sponsored event. Regardless, I've seen so many great events with great bills totally empty, so I understand Phil's worry. So I suppose, yeah, NY IS way more jaded then you realized! But we still fight the good fight and hope for the best!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

wow... funnily enough, i didn't really even look at the rest of the line up, but most of those names could pack a crowd in LA... when tim played the rooftop of the standard this fourth of july, it was more crowded than i've ever seen it in the daytime. and keep up the good work, dan. i didn't realize that you were /that/ dan.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks. and I love Tim, but I've seen Metro Area, James Murphy etc play less then crowded rooms. It has as much to do with PR, and competition as anything else, but yeah, the general jadedness of nyc at times. Tim's got a great new mix CD out on RVGN:

http://www.igetrvng.com/

http://www.igetrvng.com/shop_mx3.html

and there's gonna be a CD release party soon where he'll be joined by Crazy Rhythms.

just realized I'm on that site as playing the Bloc Party Making Time, but I couldn't make it.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Regardless, I've seen so many great events with great bills totally empty, so I understand Phil's worry. So I suppose, yeah, NY IS way more jaded then you realized!

Dan is so OTM. Also, this is the sort of event that would attract lots of people who never pay for things, I can't be putting all of Williamsburg on the damn guestlist. Most of the DJs play quite often (except Bam. And me, I guess though next week I'm starting a Sunday evening happy-hour party with Cat at Verlaine in case anyone is interested, and maybe a Fagtronix party...), so I guess the novelty of hearing THE ONE AND ONLY DAN SELZER SPIN ITALO,NEW-WAVE,NO-WAVE,DISCO,THE HOMOSEXUALS, ETC isn't that novel anymore :(

PLAY EISBAER FOR ME DAN! and kano "im ready" - i promise you me & regina will go crazy. unless im in the bathroom crying because everyone went to the flavorpill party instead.

Also, Joel, you spelled Cat's last name wrong...

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i was talking to vice marketing about doing a simultaneous warriors halloween party in LA, but that kinda didn't make it past the talking-about-it phase. would have been cool though. and then put all the gang photos on the website east coast vs west coast style.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oops well I can fix it you know.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll tell my law school classmates about it but I dunno if most of them have seen Warriors... Maybe they could be the Abercrombie & Fitch Crew?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DAN CAN I REQUEST THAT YOU PLAY TIM CURRY'S "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN ON HALLOWEEN" IF I SEND YOU A COPY?

ALSO HELLTIME HAS A VOCODER WEEN FUNK TRACK WITH THE CHORUS "HEY, JACK O' LAN-TRON, BOOGIE TONIGHT, BOOGIE TONIGHT" BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY THAT.

ALSO THIS IS TO EVERYBODY:
ME AS JAMES SPADER IS A GOOD IDEA RIGHT?

TKS

TOMBOT, Friday, 15 October 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how I act in that last post as if I know who the hell Dan Selzer is besides a personable poster to a messageboard that I read and that he knows me or something. I know Phil though! Phil, you should play this song with Tim Curry singing on it, I can burn you a good quality copy.

TOMBOT, Friday, 15 October 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

what phil hasn't mentioned, for those that weren't there...there were literally almost 1,000 people there. It was insane. Some lame-os had to go to the Tribecca Grand to see LCD Soundsystem where if you didn't have a costume they made you buy a mask for 10 bucks! But the bulk of nyc seemed to be at Supreme Trading.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 1 November 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

congra phil, saw it was listed in gawker too. so you have to post more photos.

H (Heruy), Monday, 1 November 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The picture of Giorgio's Marauders is one of the greatest things I have ever seen.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know all the Giorgio Morauders, but for the record, they include local DJs such as Dave Turov (Muzzy), Cowboy Mark, Lisa Enabler, John Selway (Memory Boy), Eliot Taub (Ulysses) and myself.

I think it was great people actually dressed like the characters from the movie.

Condoms don't carry guns, you fool.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 4 November 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, so who's organizing the switchblade sisters theme party?

this listing -- tuff chix on roller skates in the souf bronx -- reminded me of that movie. i wanna be the girl who says "if you goooooo, it's gonna turn out baaaaaaaaaaaaad."

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Also, there are affilliate Warriors Halloween parties in DETROIT and ATLANTA.

And Vice is doing it in Sydney & Melbourne too.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Is the big prize a chance to put the Kill Whitey staff in a room with Gavin and seal the airducts?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

i like the kill whitey parties though.

please come. bring friends.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to try hard to make it to this! I've got another party to go to as well, but I plan to charm everyone there into leaving with me and then coming here instead.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Ho, you better come to my Halloween party. But try not to come at peak hours - come early or later in the night. It's daylight savings so 2am-3am happens twice so in essence the party goes until 5am. I'll put you on the comp-list and your friends on the reduced list.

Sweeney is a great DJ. And JDH & Dave P just got back from their European tour where they DJ'ed with Vitalic, 2ManyDJs, and Soulwax. Great fun. I'm a terrible DJ though.

Oh, there will be Warriors videogame related giveaways.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

I wanted to dress up like a beisbol fury for halloween but lack the desire to wear facepaint all night long. perhaps I will be a baseball furry.

Stuh-du-du-du-du-du-du-denka (jingleberries), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

Oh rats, Phil, you WOULD wait until I'd made other plans to announce this. But maybe the other thing will end on the early side.

Laurel, Thursday, 27 October 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

My gang is being lame.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

MY GANG IS PROMOTIONAL TIE-IN

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Paul, can I be on your gang? I have no ideas whatsoever and am not inclined to knock myself out. Also I think I have forgotten how to be fabulouso now that I am a boring grown up with a day job (assuming I ever knew).

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

The Curling Furies are incredibly cool.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Of course, such as it is! Ideas are a little thin on the ground this year. You can email me.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

uggh im getting sick!!! not sure what gang to do. i might not dress at all since i'll be stuck at the door and running around and stuff. alex, you should come!

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Alex should totally come.

(Baseball Furries was one of our ideas!)

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

btw, if anyone is coming or thinking of coming, send an email to warriorshalloween@yahoo.com - just in case i forget or im not at the door when you get there

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

and when it gets too crowded in supreme trading, there's always capones. I carved space pumpkins last night.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 28 October 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm excited about this! It's soon! Yay!

JimD (JimD), Sunday, 30 October 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

Oh my, this was SO GREAT! I'm still quite drunk. I fell in love with Judy Jetson! But then she disappeared. TOO MUCH FUN.

Thankyou phil, you're a hero!

JimD (JimD), Sunday, 30 October 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

(Baseball Furries was one of our ideas!)

Oh my, this was SO GREAT! I'm still quite drunk. I fell in love with Judy Jetson! But then she disappeared. TOO MUCH FUN.
Thankyou phil, you're a hero!

Awww thanks! I'm glad you came and had fun. I think it went really well, and looked like everyone was having fun. Couldn't believe so many people were dancing to Rex the Dog and Roman Fluegel. Looked like it could have been at Fabric! Well, ok, not really, but still it was pretty nice seeing people dancing. Except it didn't seem like there were that many gangs. I remember seeing a gang of TLC though. You should stick around NYC a few more weeks.

phil, that's lovely ili from sydney, right? she's in nyc now?
ha! yeah you would know ilirjana, thats right. she moved here almost 2 years ago! she's one of my best friends now! i'll tell her you say hi and to email her!

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 30 October 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 30 October 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 30 October 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

she moved here almost 2 years ago!

i had no idea. then again, i left sydney over two years ago, so i guess that figures. still, vaguely surprised young chr1s p0pfr3nzy didn't mention her departure at any point. hope she's well :-)

just remembered i'm coming to nyc next year...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 30 October 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

congrats phil...capones did swell as well. Good halloweens all around.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 31 October 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 5 November 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

from that gawker link:

So the whole Warriors thing -- PR for the video game/remake? Typical hipster kitch love potently combined with that obsession with the more "authentic" '70s New York that their money helped destroy? Or does Lynne Thigpen's voice subconsciously bring people of a certain age (*cough cough*) back to a lazy early-'90s day spent watching "Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?"

I mean, it's a good little cult movie, but I'd still rather see a bunch of hipsters dressed as Martin Balsam and Walter Matthau in The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Can we bring back the '70s New York that was populated by craggy, unnattractive middle-aged men wearing large, gray coats and wide ties?

and later

...Night of 1000 Matthaus would be a good time.

kingfish orange creamsicle (kingfish 2.0), Saturday, 5 November 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

any good nyc halloween parties this upcoming friday?

manute lol (sanskrit), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

This is going on again this year, tuesday at Studio B w/ Bambaata and the usual characters, though nobody asked me. I'm sure Phil will come promote soon.

If you're looking for a nice little party for saturday, Jeremy and I, who did the alldisco dancing in space halloween party at capones last year, are doing a new halloween party in the basement of M Shanghai, called WILD KINGDOM:
