Can anyone reccomend a hosting service (not free but not super expensive) where I could put my mp3's up for people to download? Also of course all sorts of thrilling news about my life.

it's always great to see you here, mike! and this thread should not be buried b/c of the kerry-dubya and yankees-sox smackdowns, definitely not.

Ned, I was listening to your nu-shoegazing CD this morning, took it out of my cd player to bring it down to my car, and it is now missing! arrrgh. stupid apartment, eating spare CDs....

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 14 October 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw. :-( If you need a new copy I will dig it up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 October 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

$3.95 p/m at godaddy.com, not sure what the bandwidth limits and space is.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 14 October 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dreamhost is a bit more pricey ($9.95 / month), but they're reliable and super helpful; I've been using them since 1999.

Yay! Mike!

We'll there be a fan section on your website where we can draw pictures of the chickenbear or if we are so bold the icemmoth??

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes. I want mainly to include many many mp3's, entire albums. I have decided this is a better route for me than the traditional "try to get record deal" route to stardom

mike hanle y, Friday, 15 October 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ICEMOTH

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 October 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

you could include a paypal account, mike. that should be easy to set up once you have a functioning webpage.

i will gladly contribute for any mp3s that i download (... though i still haven't paid you for the cd you sent me 2 years ago!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 15 October 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

itshosted.com has some shopping cart software that you get to use on your website with them, but I've never investigated it much. I guess it would work for mp3s-- you could always email them & ask about it, the tech support guy is pretty cool with the oddball questions I've thrown at him so far.

Gah, I just spent 90 minutes over a cheeseburger & guiness trying to get a friend who is job searching to come work at my company, I feel like I am web hyped out. :-P

lyra (lyra), Friday, 15 October 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the tips. I hope the level of techieness doesnt exceed my patience. Thats always been my downfall with midi

http://www.siteground.com/

100 GB monthly traffic
1000 MB space
10 MySQL/Postgre DBs
100 FREE subdomains
etc.

$5/month

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Sunday, 27 March 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Jaysus! I use aletia which is just under ten bucks per month. Which is supah cheap for me cause the dollar/euro exchange rate is great.

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Sunday, 27 March 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

can you vouch for that siteground's reliability kenan?

I use dreamhost and really like them, but I signed up during some crazy special so I'm getting the $80/month plan for $100 a year or something like that--it's way more than I'll ever need but has come in handy a lot. If you want to pay month-to-month on dreamhost you have to pay a $50 setup fee, they waive that if you buy a year in advance and I also think you get a domain registration thrown in free. They're having some insane bandwith sale right now so if you expect to stream a ton of mp3s you might want to look at it. Their $10/month plan now gets you 2400 MB of storage and 120 GB of bandwidth, which still isn't that much better than siteground, although you do get unlimited mysql dbs if you're into that.
