any ILX people out there? I think that following an eight year hiatus the carrera is desirable and cute again. I am just posting this because this place has been so quiet today.

It's almost as good as my bad boy:

Are you sure that car doesn't belong to Kevin Shields?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Ken, I tried to take your new car to the garage for its MOT this morning and the fuckers told me they had no space and to come back Saturday morning (this made me an hour late for work)! So maybe if it passes and gets sorted straight away you could come and pick it up on Sunday morning or Sunday evening? I'm out from 11.30 but Sarah is going to be around, I think.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that's cool mark - i think i'm helping ben apps move house that day (to somewhere 5 mins from you) so it may all work out perfect!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to buy a Wolseley 1500 or a Singer Gazelle estate car next year. the Porsche looks very nice, but is so far out of my league price-wise, I'm not going to look at it. I saw some pictures of forthcoming alfa-romeo models, and they all looked pretty r0x0r to me.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

no-one seems to drive the MG-F anymore - they were all the rage a few years ago

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, sounds perfect. All we need now is for the VW to pass the MOT (or fail cheaply) - they usually can sort it on the same day. Let's phone/text each other over the weekend. Do you need further info to help you buy the insurance? The reg. no. is M854 TKU.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the reg is the only thing i need - i'll re-quote tonight.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

How appropriate. TKU = Tiger Ken's Ultimatebabemagnetmobile.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only sorry it wasn't L337 KEN or something.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I got ZipCar! I haven't used it yet but I keep seeing the Toyota Scion Xb parked around downtown and I want to drive it with the sunroof open playing loud bavarian electro. So many goofy imported cars to choose from!

TOMBOT, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 October 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Please don't put nice words like 'desireable', 'cool' and 'cute' in the vicinity of the word 'car'. They don't like the carbon monoxide. Kthxbye.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 16 October 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh fuck off Momus you big ponce.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 16 October 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean that affectionately, but still, you ponce.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 16 October 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Desirable, cool, cute, non-polluting hydrogen fuel cell car, whose waste is water.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

THINK OF ALL THE PLASTICS IN MOMUS'S SPACE IGLOO

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Juan Ponce de Leon managed to explore the entire world -- and discover Florida -- without ever getting into a car. We should all be like Ponce.

Momus (Momus), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Having reduced the natives, he was soon afterward removed from office, but not until he had amassed a considerable fortune"

"Although his first voyage had been without result as far as the acquisition of gold and slaves, and the discovery of the "fountain of youth" were concerned, Ponce determined to secure possession of his new discovery"

Ah yes, clearly we would all be more respectful of our environment and less materialistic if we followed Juan Ponce de Leon's fine example.

supercub, Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Momus, as much as I agree with your concern about cars and (I'm assuming) the environment and their effects on city (non)planning, I must say that, being a native Angeleno, cars and car culture (and the city that arose from their ascendance) are a part of my identity. I'm not saying that their spread shouldn't be curbed (haha), especially in light of their increasing prevalence in China, or perhaps someday even eliminated altogether, but they are certainly a part of what signify 'desireable', 'cool' and 'cute' for me. I think you should rent a Prius and go on a road trip!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

How did I ever guess that you started this thread, Lukey?

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 17 October 2004 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather be sailing off on a quest for the fountain of youth than driving around looking for a gas station. And even a Porsche 997 still has to sit there in tailbacks and at traffic lights looking as foolishly foiled as a puma in a cage.

Momus (Momus), Sunday, 17 October 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

momus has never played grand theft auto.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, I kiss you.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd rather be sailing off on a quest for the fountain of youth than driving around looking for a gas station.

The Prius' highway range of 600 miles/tank means that you'd only have to find 3 stations if you wanted to drive from L.A. to NYC (something I suspect you'd enjoy/have enjoyed). The city driving range is something like 715 miles! I've read reviews of the car where they say the main complaint is running out of gas because they forgot that they need to fill up periodically!

And even a Porsche 997 still has to sit there in tailbacks and at traffic lights looking as foolishly foiled as a puma in a cage.

This is very true. However, you can take your super-cars to various race tracks and proving grounds and drive suicidally to your heart's content.
