If you have not seen it, shame on you. If you have seen it but have not revisited it in a while, shame on you.

Best film ever?

Possibly. "A naked American man stole my baloons". "I'm sorry I called you a meatloaf Jack". "Have you ever tried talking to a corpse? It's boring!" "Beware the moon lads, and stick to the road".

A classic of the highest order.

And it's got Brian Glover in it, being dead Yorkie an'that. Long deserted tube walkways still give me the willies, though with London having such a woefully inadequate tube for such an overcrowded city, it never seems to happen now.

London is woefully inadequate full stop. From the tube station where no one even smiles at one another to the grubby surroundings of the area. It is the perfect place to let a werewolf out, which is maybe why I love this film all the more.

Going by the sentence, it reads like a lovely thing.

Yes and yes.

I was afraid that this revive was in the service of announcing an impending remake.

this is a fucking great film, yeah

a recent rescreening of re-animator got me wondering why there was like a five-year stretch in the 80s where people were making really good horror-comedies that were genuinely both scary and funny (those two, evil dead, society, gremlins, return of the living dead, even ghostbusters to some degree, doubtless some others i'm forgetting) and why it vanished as quickly as it appeared

BIG RICHARD ENERGY (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 17 July 2018 12:33 (seven years ago)

Lots of other stuff during that stretch which aren't quite horror-comedies but have dece comedic elements (Creepshow, CHUD, House, Pieces (although I'm not sure how much the comedy is intentional there), Day of the Dead, Basket Case, Fright Night). Also Toxic Avenger, if you count that as horror. I can't help but feel like cocaine played a role, somehow.

Gregory Horsemelt (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 17 July 2018 13:02 (seven years ago)

it was the 80s, cocaine played a role in aspect of the entertainment world

whatever dealers were adding to their supply back then needs to be reintroduced and quickly imo
