Amusing.

I wish the Grand Ayatollah would chime in on Indian Gaming right about now... Schwarzenegger could use some holy guidance.

This is all because of Bush's shout-out to the "moolahs" in one of the debates.

Mofidi added that "Democrats usually insist on human rights and they will have more excuses to pressure Iran."

Hah-ha. Praised by faint damnation. Usually insist...

George Smith, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

is there any way that this could be reverse-psychology?

ryan (ryan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you think this will do anything to boost/hurt Bush's numbers?

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no way for either the Democrats or Republicans to use this info without looking like asshats. Republicans will look like asshats because it goes against their current "Stewards of Global Democracy and Decency" pose (esp. because of the human rights quote) and Democrats will look like racists who are playing up an "Iranian = terrorist" stereotype.

Jon Stewart, however, will have fun.

Let's see, Bush has Russia and Iran. All he needs now is Nigeria and he's got the trifecta as regards oil-rich crypto fascist regimes.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

how is Nigeria crypto-fascist?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally spaced on Obasanjo's election. Sorry. Can I substitute Kazakhstan for Nigeria?

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"You forgot Iran!!"

But they haven't forgotten you!

Doobie Keebler (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That article is astonishing. I wonder what the real story is with the US and Iran. I wonder what the whole story is with Chalabi. The Iranian spokeswoman quoted in the article makes the very good point that the US swooped in and took care of pesky probalems the Iranians have been trying to get rid of for years, namely Saddam and the Taliban. It turns out the guy to whom we were going to hand the keys to Iraq (Chalabi) is/was an Iranian intelligence asset of some description. Ed says he thinks they just figure this Admin will fuck up Iraq to the point where, in the ensuing chaos, Iran can get a piece of the action there.
