I CURRENTLY HATE MY FUXORIN JOB!!!

I'm sure there are a million threads like this.

Anyway, I just found out I'm going to have to start contributing to my health insurance payments each month (previously, that was one of my benefits), which comes to over $800 a year which will be taken out of my paycheck. This is almost twice as much as the raise I got earlier in the year, so that's basically null.

A W E S O M E !

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR!!

TELL ME MORE!

I REALLY WANTED ANOTHER REASON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY JOB!

Mrs Adam's work people just did this to her (and consequently, me too). American Healthcare/Insurance SUCKS.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:37 (twenty years ago)

just wait until they come after you for outstanding student loans!

kephm (kephm), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago)

SARAH YOU NEED A NEW JOB SHOCKA!!!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:40 (twenty years ago)

(Hey! How did you know about my outstanding student loans?)

But seriously, they can just revoke a benefit like that? BASTARDS!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Bbbut socialised healthcare and cheap Rxs will lead to RATIONING!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn, did you live in the UK or something? You have seen this miracle at work?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:44 (twenty years ago)

they can take up to 35% of your paycheck if you have outstanding paychecks. no lie, so pay them on time

kephm (kephm), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:45 (twenty years ago)

Please excuse me while I scream a little more...

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!1

WHY, GOD, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, I know you don't want to do this, but you are so valuable to that company at this point that you could probably demand a raise to cover these insurance costs by threatening to quit if they don't give it to you, and you would get it. Or you could just get a job at a company that doesn't suck.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago)

I'M CURRENTLY FUXORIN MY dayJOB,
kind of...
or rather, CURRENTLY MY dayJOB IS FUXORIN ME
...when I amn't fuxorin it, that is.
which ain't that great either way really.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:47 (twenty years ago)

So, if they gave me the raise to cover that cost, that would definitely void any opportunity for future raises. 'Sarah doesn't need a raise because she just got one.' Plus, no one here got a raise at all this year. I HAAAAAATTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEE IIIITTTTTTT! So, basically, I'd be back where I was with no possibility of making more. AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

I was just quoting Bush's latest debate shenanigans, in the above rationing comment. And yes I did live in the UK and socialized medicine allowed me to have needed surgery, Thank God.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago)

You could always scalp tickets on Ebay and do consumer surveys. then you wouldn't need a job!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago)

But you won't need future raises because by that point you'll be working somewhere else!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago)

it could be a worse. a girl I know got a notice like this that was followed up by 'well, not only are we taking away your insurance, but were taking away your job as well. you have 2 months.'

still bevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Why do this always happen to girls? I think girls need more protection.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:52 (twenty years ago)

We have ovaries that turn against us.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:53 (twenty years ago)

this is pretty shameful. my first two "real" jobs had fully paid health insurance, I didn't have to pay squat for it; then I got laid off, went and worked for walmart.com, and had to pay part of the premium, and I was like, "uh, WHAT????" and then I came to realize this is how most places work. It blows.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, did you by any chance sign a contract when you started work? If so legally they cannot change terms of employment without a new contract, and they should not be able to make revisions that leave you in any way worse off in any case.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:59 (twenty years ago)

Interesting, Suzy. I'll have to look into that. I know I signed something to the effect of "I understand everything in the handbook," but I just looked in it and all it says is that health insurance is offered to all employees.

This just makes me more disgruntled. I'm going to be the old lady on the hallmark cards in no time.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:49 (twenty years ago)

go speak with HR, not with any of your direct managers
(sorry i wasn't much help yesterday)

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:00 (twenty years ago)

k thx bye!
S xxx

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

but, but it's not like there are oodles of jobs to choose from!

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately, kephm, there is no HR department. It is a very small office (Less than 20 employees including the higher-ups and part-timers). The VP guy who told me about the benefit cuts is also the guy that hired me. But yeah, like you said, there aren't loads of jobs to choose from right now. I just need to buck up and keep on looking while I'm still getting a paycheck.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Sarah that sucks unfortunately I have no advice to give on how to sort it out, soz.

I hated my job this afternoon for about 45 mintues when I received my pay check for the month it was £200 down. I thought they had scammed me with my new role and lowered my pay (long story) so I was fuming when I complained to my boss. Luckily all sorted now.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:34 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
I was called in a meeting this morning about a job that had nothing to do with me. It turns out, the VP just wanted me by his side to HAND him things. So, I'm sitting there with the job folder and he would say, "Now, Sarah, if you could pass me the invoices for the installation," or, "Sarah, give me the figures on the front of the folder..." He just wanted to feel important.
