which poster has had the most transformative effect on ilx?

it's ethan, for my money. (coupled with jess, to some degree).

but with all the omgwtf and roffling 'round here these days (this certainly includes me), jon is least in the running.

i'm curious as to how closely the accounts of other ilxors match my own.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

All the ones I can think of have made it worse, so I'm not going to name them.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

GARU G

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Collectively it was the "Indie Guilt" guys, but if you are thinking of one individual then yeah it's probably Ethan (or maybe Marcello or Mark S.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally, Kate and Mark S.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It all sorta blurs after a while. But also keep in mind that those who don't *seem* to have a major impact actually do in my mind, in that without them ILX wouldn't be what it is, namely a combination of many different things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

C*l*m has obv had the most negative influence.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it's been going so long I can't think who, really. ethan has probably typified nu-ile most.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(if you hadn't posted that adam, you could've listed them without implying a value judgement)

and mark s, yes, absolutely. i was thinking of the rise of lowercase and lazy punctuation on ilx as inherited from the 'tossed-off don't really care about what i'm saying yet it's kinda casually brilliant ain't it' axis of ethan, but mark's 36ideasineverysentence ultracompression certainly fed into it too.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I know.

Ethan is nu-ILE???? Jesus.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

in reply to ned: maybe i should've said 'most obvious transformative effect', but i think subconscious transformation is interesting to talk about too. dave q, i think, is a good case in point here - a favourite poster of many that seemed to have a limited influence, in the cosmetic sense anyway

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

He did change my lipsick choice though.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Amazing Randy

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

lipstick even.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm quite proud of myself for having left that cosmetic joke for someone else to make.

less so the case with this post.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

caitlin wins!

at least for the last couple of months..

still bevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I was joking about Ethan being nu-ile!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I've started dressing like gygax, if that means anything.

In ile terms, I think it's N, in the nu-era. That wistful reasonableness, and so on. I might be being optimistic, though.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

who is ilx's moral barometer?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Without a doubt:

CONOR SMEDLEY

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I've started dressing like gygax, if that means anything.

It means you probably look like this:

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Obvious answer: the person who coined the term "nu-ilx" and gave everyone an opportunity to get wistful about something.

dubya's emo army of compassion and guns (deangulberry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

remember when things were different last week?

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

what radical coined such an absurd term as "new ilx"!!! these people who suggest something can change over the space of 5 years are fucking nuts!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX posters were taller in my day.

Chairman ROFLMAO (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Ronan, we need more Spiritualized and Low reviews. *hides*

those feet are huge

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, i still think calling greenspun a "fitter, happier george costanza" was my OTMest moment ever (i hope it was me who originally said that).

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

his wife is hideous though

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd hit it (if just for that floppy right ear)

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I like "Nu ILX" v. 4.3 >>>>>>> "Old ILX"

dubya's emo army of compassion and guns (deangulberry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Bigot.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, that should read "Nu-ILX" v. 4.23

dubya's emo army of compassion and guns (deangulberry), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread wasn't inherently nostalgic...

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha! i thought that WAS george costanza!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark Grout.

It's funny, I like to think that I used to read ILM a lot back two or three years ago, but I don't have any idea what ethan's views are. Except a vague caricature that we're all racist.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

he wants more jean luc picards and less funding for public schools.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Slocki OTM: that's not george costanza?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the transformative poster which will have the most effect on ilx.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, comrades, your debate is sadly bourgeois. But at least you stopped talking about minor characters from Seinfeld. Now, to the barricades!

Momus (Momus), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

How can bourgeois be bad???

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

YSI requesters / Oink torrents / hair dye googlers = those little ones who turn into tapes for Soundwave

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was just gonna ask: who gets to be the Go-Bots?

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

"gets" vs "has"

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

when i was a kid SOUNDWAVE was the coolest, i think. i was never really into transformers, cabbage patch dolls or all that stuff.

danny invincible (michael w.), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

Please to not insult the hair dye googlers, they are all my children in some form.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

t/s: the guy who turned into a fire truck vs the guy who turned into a construction crane truck

kingfish doesn't live here anymore (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, chaki.

When I was little, we had fake transformers. I don't know what company made them. Maybe McDonalds Happy Meals, LLC?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

I keep turning conversations totally dorky lately, sorry dudes. I never had a Transformer toy. I had Voltrons and they played with My Little Ponies.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

That's okay, my Star Wars figures lived in Lego houses.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

My Star Wars figures lived in my dad's VCR. He wasn't really that happy with that.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

That actually does a lot to explain some things he said at the wedding....

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

QUE?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

He showed Laurel the figures AND the VCR.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds kind of gross.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

It does, actually . Stop besmirching -- I've got a reputation to protect, you know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

chaki first xmen now transformers? Why are you even on the internet?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Okay Mr Know-It-All, the point was that on their home planets they didn't look like that at all; when they came to Earth, they modified their transformed forms to better blend into the environment.
