duder, Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

They watch The Graduate.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Travel.

Laura E (laurae55), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

um, also, totally cry.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

move in with their girlfriend.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I drank for three years. Oh wait that was during college. Which consequently turned into "post-college" when it became apparent I wasn't ever going to go back to class.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

take a low-paying, high-stress "glamour job"... and cry.

paranoia is the hipster's disease (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What I'm doing is trying my hardest to go back to school. No crying.

You're looking at it.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

take a low-paying, high-stress "glamour job"... and cry.

This is what I did!

Then...quit everything, marry a beautiful girl and move to another country!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

And then you circled back to the 'glamour job' thing anyway.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahaha - jaymc otm. also, cry.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

get an easy job (with admittedly little upward mobility) and taste sweet freedom.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

And then you circled back to the 'glamour job' thing anyway.

And then I quit again! ROCK!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

That means you have to marry another beautiful girl and move to another country now. Er, wait...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I did the crying thing for years. Now I want to go to law school. Stop laughing. I keep coming back to it, and I know I'd be good at it.

At this point, I'd just like to be able to do something I'm good at.

Do you think it's possible to juggle this and work? I don't have a lot of money in my savings.

bob nope (bobnope), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

they board

stomp (+dancefloor), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

move to another city, date a porn actress, spend four years in low-level shit jobs payin' the dues, then break through just as all hope is lost. Also, cry often.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Take comfort in the vague promise that after 10 years of desperation and depression, you might start making enough money to buy records again.

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha - this is true!! I'm finally at the point where I don't dread the electric bill.

k3rry (dymaxia), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The glam job and crying thing can truly truly suck.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the key is to NEVER leave college . . . start a PhD you can't finish . . . go on, do it . . . . DO IT . . . . .

mwah hah haaaah

Drew Daniel, Wednesday, 20 October 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

wish they didn't have to make a living

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the key is to NEVER leave college . . . start a PhD you can't finish . . . go on, do it . . . . DO IT . . . . .

That's what I tried; it lasted a year before I ran out of money.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 21 October 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Everyone I knew, including me, who didn't go immediately into grad school after college, worked in retail or food service for at least a year before getting something better. It was soul-sucking, and after two years I went to grad school and haven't been out of it since.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Avoided breaking any limbs or getting any cavities, because there's no insurance to fix them now. Also road trip & steal parent's food.

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Cushy job - Plans - Back to Uni - Plans - Back to Uni - Plans, long term.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Cushy job - Plans - Back to Uni

i have got thus far. according to you, i have to go to uni AGAIN?

man, i cant take that. learning is hard, especailly when you have 1000's of gurning freshers laughing at you.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that really how it is? Oh shit.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It was really hard for me to have a "real" job after college. I hated every second of it. You can't just not show up to work like you can class. You have to always wake up early. You have to (in most cases) sit in one place for the longest you ever have before in your life. You eat too much and you get fat.

Boo hoo hoo.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I never realized how long 8-9 hours could feel until I did a day's work.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

B O R I N G...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

today is the most boring day of work of all time. i was all tapped out for actual office work ideas by noon. desk cleaning time! more ILM time! impulse purchase time!

wheeeeeeee!

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Be more interesting, ILX! I still have 6 hours to go!!

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorta doing the cushy job and uni at the same time, whilst the plans are all about getting away from both of them.

Sarah OTM about the sitting down, that is very depressing.

Haven't you read the liquid soap thread adam? How much more interesting can life get?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I am afraid of it.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think part of it was that I was still in college when she graduated, so she had two more years of hanging out with college kids in a college town after she graduated.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 October 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

do you have to buy a tie?

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

shitty hospitality job, cry, join good grad program in the public service, then save up enough to go back to law school. my life is tops!!

gem (trisk), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

post-college just sucks. it makes movies like 'st. elmo's fire' sensible, which isn't okay.

battlin' green eyeshades (Homosexual II), Friday, 22 October 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Nairn - absolutely.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 October 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

do you have to buy a tie?

Yes, but eventually you can give them up. My current job is far and away the best-paying one I've ever had, and when I showed for my first day in the office, my boss looked at me and said, "Lose the tie." Wa-hey. In warm weather, I wear jeans, sandals and T-shirts, all while making a healthy multiple of what I made in my first tie-and-dress-shirt-required job. The work world is not all bad.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 22 October 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I only wore a tie for about 6 months, then I gave them up. Library dudes don't wear suits.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
well, that's it for university. my immediate future goals:

1) do absolutely nothing for a while
2) figure out how to accomplish 1) while having promised some (paid) animation work in 2 weeks
3) find someone to have consensual sex with me
4) think about whether i'll be doing a masters course at my university that i'm only half-interested in, or wait it out for however many months it takes before the scholarship letters that i plan to send out to foreign universities come back to me
