So who here has relocated somewhere and been put into a house with some new people (and no one knows one another) and it's SCARY, SCARY?

Cos this will be little old me soon. I've done it a few times before, of course, but I dunno - I'm more nervous than usual now.

Tell me my ILXor chums. Share with me your stories.

Are you going on The Real World?

If so, break up with your girlfriend BEFORE you leave.

No, not the Real World. Though I am going far away from home.

When I went to university. It wasn't particularly scary, though.

Yeah but uni was somehow different (don't ask me why - maybe because you had lots of time in between semesters to come back home etc?!)

I didn't usually bother coming home in the holidays, except for a week or so at Christmas.

Even so, I fecking hate relocating.

Is it a halfway house?

andy, Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Uhm... I dunno what that is so I guess not.

I moved from the Northwest of England to another country four months ago and only knew one person.
The hardest thing is that at first you have to socialise with people you really wouldn´t normally socialise with and find yourself agreeing to go to events that you wouldn´t usually go to.

I suggest you buy a guide when you get to your destination and go off and discover things by walking around on your own....don´t be shy....embrace the loneliness.

Good luck on your adventure!

Oh yeah, I moved to a new country last year too but this time it's for a permanent job. No turning back and all that. And it's dangerously close to a certain major English city that I could well do without.

Most of my house/flatmates have been people I didn't know when I moved in - I found them in flatshare ads. I like it that way because you get a nice long honeymoon period when everybody is polite, does some housework and minds their own business. I think I've also been quite lucky, though.
