Things I just learned from Alan Keyes

1) The separation of church and state is not in the constitution. It's totally made up.

2) Only black women get abortions.

Aggh. I could go on, but I won't. Did anyone happen to catch any of the Keyes/Obama debate?

To be fair, the words "separation of church and state" are not found verbatim in the Constitution. Still. Aggh.

Yeah, I saw it. Oh yeah, theocracy plays really well in Illinois. Especially with Catholics. Right. His bit about Catholic teaching on the death penalty vs. abortion was totally incorrect, too - he said the death penalty was much less important.

I'm just speechless when Keys talks. Again, I'm amazed Obama has such restraint when debating with him.

Hi Jeff! We should have a beer sometime, I think. I'll bring my girlfriend if you bring yours.

Okay! This weekend is open, drop me a line.

I sent you a note, got the spam-blocking "prove you're human" message, clicked dutifully, and got a document that, if my computer is correct, contains no data. Maybe you should write me first. The address below is fine.

i've had not a few right-wingers that i know tell me -- IN ALL SERIOUSNESS -- that alan keyes is an "intellectual."

they also wonder why they're not taken seriously by normal people.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe "intellectual" is short-hand for "bipedal; can use opposable thumb to some degree of success; speaks in gramatically correct complete sentences; has read books, is able to feign comprehension; does not throw own feces at predators".

he does have a doctorate i believe

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Friday, 22 October 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, me too. I think the exact line was that he couldn't resist condemning Mary Cheney in a debate because he "was too rational, too much of an intellectual" and thus couldn't censor himself. Which was a totally new definition of 'intellectual' and 'rational.'

It's easy to take the high road when your opponent as absolutely no chance of winning.

Hi amateur!!!st -- does this mean you are back in the US?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 22 October 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't see the debate, but I heard that Obama got a ZING in -- Keyes apparently said he was disappointed that Obama didn't have a better grasp of the Constitution, and Obama said, "Well, I think I actually do I have a pretty good grasp of it, considering I teach constitutional law at the University of Chicago."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 22 October 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, making Barack be polite to Alan Keyes is just such a total fuck-you from the Republican Party. Like, "Here, boy, we got a Negro of our own for you to play with." But that's all it is, just a fuck-you, and it won't mean anything after election day, and Obama knows it. It's still pretty fucking degrading, though.

Alan Keyes should call http://www.liegirls.com/ to comfort him in his loss.
