I was just thinking how good it would be to have a programme called The Hour or something which just flies through that week's most interesting new music videos, viral web things, tv adverts, computer games, events etc. at high speed packing as much in as possible into that 60 minutes (with no adverts) from a broad range of scenes, genres, cultures. No visual presenter, just narrators, Trans World Sport style.

is there another heat mag thread? reading mark friths celeb diaries at the mo. curiously reads a lot like the celeb biogs out there - looks like its going to be quite revealing but ultimately isnt. more interesting for the bits about the mag and publishing world more than the celeb stuff. seems quite light on opinion about the celeb world too (though i have about 100 pages left) or the debates around it, though i suppose this isnt really the place for that. i suppose libel might have had something to do with it but its not as gossipy as i thought it would be.

Good!
seems quite light on opinion about the celeb world too
Hray!
― Mark G, Thursday, 29 October 2009 11:17 (sixteen years ago)
well at times it seems like hes willfully ignoring the questionable side of the whole celebs/decaying culture etc thing to put forward his own position as heat editor. which is totally understandable obviously. but it just seems a bit lightweight. and the fake-oh-god-what-a-mistake judgements/mistakes which all seem to get sorted out by the next page are a bit LOL. cant stop reading it though. so frith is obviously winning.
but then the other book im reading is a fine balance (good but grim).
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 29 October 2009 11:27 (sixteen years ago)
Can't believe the Heat editor's Celeb Diaries book is a bit lightweight tbh

Ha, does he talk about the "oh noe he will eat us all" Harvey sticker?
― Mark G, Thursday, 29 October 2009 11:30 (sixteen years ago)

absurdly like a tom waits performance too

Is this your man with the cowboy hat?
― I can't dérive fifty-feev (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 21:42 (seven years ago)
outback hat iirc
― topical mlady (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 21:50 (seven years ago)
He's a bit much, I'll give you that. Still not as bad as, top of my head, Neil Oliver, Tony Robinson, the boy Cox. Maybe a poll in this, on another day.
― I can't dérive fifty-feev (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 21:55 (seven years ago)
im not allowed criticise cox in the house soz
― topical mlady (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 21:58 (seven years ago)
Duly noted. Cox isn't the word of my list tbf
Oh god Paxman, don't know know if he should count but he's probably the worst of any cunt who hasn't presented Top Gear

For a guy that spends a lot of time on a board called ‘I love everything’; do you like anything?
― American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 22:02 (seven years ago)
Sorry, which one of them is your fave?
― I can't dérive fifty-feev (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 9 January 2019 22:08 (seven years ago)
None, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen you express a positive sentiment about anything ever.

You must be cherry-picking my posts Ed, but thanks for watching :)

it's like Lloyd Grossman joined the priesthood after the botulism scandal and started wearing a fucking cowboy hat.
― calzino, Wednesday, 9 January 2019 22:33 (seven years ago)
lol, it's hard out there for a "commoner" with a detached 5 bedroom house in the middle of a national park.
― calzino, Wednesday, 9 January 2019 22:45 (seven years ago)
Bartlett always seemed authorative and interesting on medieval history but I haven't seen him in anything for years now. That fucking mediocre poshboy cock Dan Snow (great grandson of Lloyd George) has been hogging all the bbc history programs and he's just making more fucking forgettable wallpaper.

Noodle pretty clear on the merits of given Mancunian rap artists iirc
― sans lep (sic), Thursday, 10 January 2019 10:00 (seven years ago)
loving everything would mean loving death, disease, war, hitler, russell howard, michael gove etc... so I surmise that hate is not without merit.
― calzino, Thursday, 10 January 2019 10:09 (seven years ago)
Noodle also squeals like a 15 yo girl over Nuno Espírito Santo iirc. He's got love to give, Ed.

In fairness, Paxman was last good about as far back in the past as MC Tunes.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 10 January 2019 10:11 (seven years ago)
lol I saw MC Tunes live in 1990 at the Sheffield Octagon with 808 State/K-Klass, and I can confirm I've never heard Paxman imploring a crowd to "fuck the babylon (sic)".
― calzino, Thursday, 10 January 2019 10:23 (seven years ago)
also pretty sure Tunes could do a better documentary on the British Empire than Paxman
